Section F contains the specifications and wiring diagrams necessary to diagnose and make minor adjustments on the electrical components on the Case Series 930 and 930 Comfort King Tractors.

All major adjustments and overhaul of electrical components should be performed by an Authorized Electrical Service Station (Delco - United Motors Service , Auto Lite - Auto Lite Service Station) where specialized equipment and trained personnel are available.

Mose electrical systems will operate "trouble free" with a regular schedule of "minor adjustments." Major problems with electrical components usually arise out of unauthorized personnel" tinkering" with the system.

DO NOT ATTEMPT EVEN MINOR ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENTS WITHOUT THE AID OF THE PROPER TEST EQUIPMENT

Spark Plugs

Spark plugs that have been worn out by normal service can be identified by a light brown to grayish tan dry deposit which indicates a balanced ignition and combustion system and the plugs are of the proper heat range.

NOTE: If a highly leaded fuel is used a white powdery or yellow glazed deposit will appear. These deposits should be cleaned off regularly.

Cleaning and Gapping Spark Plugs

Figure F-43

Use an abrasive type cleaning machine (if available) to remove the deposits on the plug;ifter this has been done, wire brush the threads.

File the electrode sparking areas to obtain bright flat parallel surfaces. The plugs should be washed in a good cleaning solvent and blown dry with air pressure. Reset the gap between the electrodes to .025 Inch.

Set the gap by bending the ground or outside electrode, never try to bend the center electrode as the insulator will crack.

Use a round type feeler gauge to measure the gap as a flat type feeler gauge will give a false reading, Figure F-44.

FLAT TYPE FEELER GAUGE CAN GIVE FALSE READING

ROUND TYPE FEELER GAUGE, GIVES MORE ACCURATE READING

Figure F-44

Installing the Spark Plugs

Make sure the cylinder head threads and the gasket seats are clean. Always install a new gasket whenever a spark plug has been removed and reinstalled. Use a thin wall deep socket type spark plug wrench (7 /8") and torque to 34 foot pounds. If a torque wrench is not used tighten each pluguntil the plug, gasketandhead make contact and then give them 3/4 of a turn which will compress the gasket properly. Replace spark plug wires in the order in which they were removed.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR LPG ENGINES

. N-3 N-4 N-6 N-8

When properly handled, LPGfuel presents less opportunity for the occurrance of accidents than is true with gasoline and other fuels. The probability of an accident occurring with LPG fuel is very remote unless vapor is released within a building or confined area by a thoughtless person who has completely disregarded the normal precautions that should be observed when handling or storing any combustible fuel.

Emptying LPG Tank

The recommended method for emptying a tank which contains a substantial amount of liquid LPG is tO burn the vapor instead of releasing it directly into the atmosphere.

The burning of the vapor is accomplished by hooking a hose line 20 feet or longer to the filler valve of the tank. Place the end of the hose downwind from the tractor so that there will be no possibility of damage to the tractor.

Prior to attaching the hose line to the filler valve of the tank, place some burning waste at the end of the hose so the escaping vapor will be ignited immediately.

Burning the released vapor in this manner will eliminate any possibility of a dangerous accumulation of vapor forming in a low place.

Filling LPG Tank A, VAPOR SPACE IN TANK. The engine fuel tank should not be filled over 80% full with liquid

LPG. The 20% vapor space remaining will take care of any normal expansion that would result from atmospheric temperature changes. After filling the LPG tank, the full level gauge determines the amount of liquid LPG in the tank.

B. REFUEL THE TANK OUT-OF-DOORS. As a small amount of vapor is released when attaching or removing the filler and vapor hoses, the tank should always be refueled out-of-doors in an open area where the released vapor would be quickly dissipated.

C. VAPOR RETURN HOSE. In addition to the fillerhose, a vapor return hose should always be used when filling an LPG tank. The practice of using only a filler hose and then bleeding off vapor pressure from the tractor tank wastes fuel and could also be hazardous if the operator is careless.

D. HANDLING FACILITIES. The main storage tank, filler pump and hose lines should all meet the government safety standards set up for use with LPG fuel.

CAUTION WHEN FILLING THE TANK, CHECKING THE LIQUID LEVEL IN THE TANK OR WHEN

CLEANING THELIQUIDFILTER,BECAREFULNOTTOCOME INTO PROLONGED CONTACT WITH THE LIQUID SPRAY. THE TEMPERATURE OF THE LIQUID SPRAY IS EXTREMELY LOW AND COULD CAUSE FROST-BITE IF IT DIRECTLY CONTACTED BARE HANDS, ARMS OR OTHER PARTS OF THE HUMAN BODY.

INTRODUCTION

This transmission is a six-speed forward, one - speed reverse, spur gear mechanical unit. It is housed with the final drive unit in a heavy duty, one-piece case, which is attached directly to the engine block and supports the operator's platform, fuel tank and operating controls. This design eliminates the need for a separate tractor frame.

Gear cross shafts are heavy, short shafts, especially processed to reduce scoring and distortion and to lengthen the life of the transmission.

All gears are precisely machined to insure correct tooth contact and long life. The clutch shaft and first reduction shaft bevel

S-2

gears are machined as a matched set for uniform tooth contact. The heavy duty differential drive gear "floats" on the differential cross shaft. This floating action is the result of four differential pinion gears integrally mounted with the drive gear. These pinion gears mesh with differential side gears to transmit power to the chain drive sprockets. This "floating" action provides smooth operation and greater service life for the cross shaft, differential drive gear and for the differential side gear and sprocket assemblies.

The rear axle chain sprockets also are machined precisely to insure correct tooth contact with the reliable, heavy duty roller chain.
