Simple multihull vessel means a flat platform installed on two or more pontoons.

Flat platform is a non-buoyant platform having no enclosed volume, no enclosed bridge structures connecting the pontoons and no superstructures/deckhouses/other enclosed structures or enclosed spaces formed by soft covers (whether movable or permanent) fitted.

Enclosed spaces formed by soft covers are all those spaces that are bounded by coverings other then permanent or movable awnings.

Awning is a canvas canopy or any other soft cover spread over a deck for protection from the sun having no sides, side screens or other vertical coverings.

Tonnage measurement length (TML) of each pontoon of a simple multihull vessel is the length of the pontoon measured horizontally (parallel to the designed waterline) from the fore side of its foremost end to the aft side of its aftermost end excluding appendages that does not contribute to the volume of the pontoon (see figures 3 and 4 overleaf).

Tonnage measurement breadth (TMB) of each pontoon of a simple multihull vessel is the maximum breadth measured horizontally from the outboard face of the skin on one side of the pontoon to the outboard face of the skin on the other side of the pontoon (see figures 1 and 2 overleaf).

Tonnage measurement depth (TMD) of each pontoon of a simple multihull vessel is the maximum depth measured from the outboard face of the skin on the top of the pontoon to the outboard face of the skin on its bottom (see figures 1 and 2 overleaf).

Gross tonnage coefficient (GTC) of each pontoon of a simple multihull vessel: GTC = 0.16 for pontoons of any shape.

Gross tonnage for each pontoon (GTn) shall be obtained by the formula: GTn = TMLn x TMBn x TMDn x GTCn (n is the number of a pontoon)

Gross tonnage of the vessel (GT): GT = GT1 + GT2 + …

1 for photographs requirements see the note overleaf 2 provide the pontoon number or list a group of identical pontoons; pontoons are numbered from portside to starboard side of the vessel 3 1 horsepower = 0.746 kw

4 Net tonnage (NT) of a simple multihull vessel is the same as its gross tonnage (GT): NT = GT

PROTECTED A (WHEN COMPLETED) FORM 4B

Registered length = Length overall (LOA)Registered breadth = Breadth overall (BOA)Registered depth = Depth overall (DOA)

Length overall (LOA) of a simple multihull vessel is the maximum overall length measured horizontally (parallel to the designed waterline) from the fore side of the foremost fixed permanent structure of the vessel's platform or pontoons to the aft side of the aftermost fixed permanent structure of the vessel's platform or pontoons (see figures 3 and 4).

Breadth overall (BOA) of a simple multihull vessel is the maximum breadth measured horizontally from the outboard face of the vessel's structure (platform or pontoon) on one side of the vessel to the outboard face of the vessel's structure (platform or pontoon) on the other side of the vessel excluding any fenders or rubbing strakes (see figures 1 , 2 and 4).

Depth overall (DOA) of a simple multihull vessel is the maximum depth measured from the top of the platform surface to the lowest bottom surface of the deepest pontoon or the bottom of its keel (if fitted) (see figure 2).

Note: Photographs of the vessel must be attached (four in number: bow, stern, side profile and view from deck at stern looking forward). Each photograph must be a minimum of 12.70 cm x 8.89 cm (5” x 3.5”) in size. Digital photographs are also accepted. Alternatively sketches or boat manufacturer's brochures may be provided on condition they meet the requirements for photographs above.
