DPIS-9PRFZN Question: wrong results by using a mesh size smaller then 1m by load panels. Can you have a look at the small project attached? I have created a small project with a load panel and a plate, both of 2m x 2m, supported in the 4 nodes. Loaded this panel and plate equally with an ecentric point load of -100 kN in the Z direction. So the resultant of reactions should be Rz = 100 kN and My = 50 kNm. For the plate, these results can be found. It does not matter what the mesh size is. For the load panel, this result can only be found by using a panel mesh size of 1m². If you use a smaller mesh size, the moment My is no longer correct (bigger than 50 kNm). Why is the result for the load panel not the same as for the plate?

A new load transfer method has been implemented - FEM - hinged link with beams. If the new method is selected on the panel, the results are as you expected. The sum of reactions corresponds to the reactions from the original load.

NWEB-9P8KBM A customer asks why there is a difference in yhe internal forces of 2 beams. One curved beam (S9) is modelled with a variable cross section but the section is kept constant and the other beam (S10) is a curved beam with the same cross section. Seet the picture and .esa file in the attachment. An explanation about the cause of the difference would be welcome.

CHEK-9LZBHH project in attachment crashes on non-linear construction stage calculation (user uses modified newton-rhapson, but also Picard crashes) It seems to be when he starts with stage 2. It's very urgent for client since they are blocked. The message from the solver crash is in txt file. Tested both in version 2013 (client) and 14.0.1039 (support) Please advise work-around or solution.

JPOL-9TNEGV Crash report Crash of SEn in case you press Save button and directly close the program. In case you are impatient and click the Close button in top right corner right after you try to save your project (and the saving is not fast enough), you receive a crash that cause - even worse - data loss because there is no recovery after restart of SEn. Right before the crash there is a message saying that some file in Temp is inaccessible - see the picture in crash report. The crash is reported in attached zip files and is project independent.

Problem already solved in r15. Workaround for customer is not to close application until the Save function is finished (visible in status bar).

Template project is referenced to the wrong company. From a reaction of "Patrick Alberti" from "Alberti Ingénieurs S.A.", the project in screenshot is referenced to the wrong company (Arup NY). This should be replaced by "Alberti Ingénieurs S.A."

NWEB-9M56QK Issue: Scia Engineer 14.0 can't be opened. After installing Scia Engineer 14.0.115, the program can't be started. Each time there is a crash report (see attachment). The software is already deinstalled (after deleting the workspace in the registry), the temp folder is deleted, ... Nothing seems to work. Can you analyse the crash report?

Already fixed in revision 84941 in deve 05. The problematic xml file is empty. The fix causes that whatever is missing after load from xml, it is added from defaults. You can test it with the attached xml, put it in User folder and start ESA, no crash should appear. After close the xml file should have full content. The deleting of XML files were added to the Reset GUI button option.

NWEB-9MBHRR I thought it was not possible to define an arbitrary profile with 2 cross-sections having defined with different material. Is it correct? If Yes then there is a bug when defining an arbitray profile. I was wondering because in project 'TEST' in attachment, I was able to define an arbitrary profile with section 1 (S235) and section 3 (S460 N/NL). However when I do this then: - change Section 3 (S460 N/Nl) into Section 2 (S235) to have the same material for both section 1 and 2: No problem - change back Section 2 to Section 3: the message 'Selected cross section is not valid, please select another cross section'

After 4 days of calculation, it is still not finished (it reached iteration 225 634), I think something is not right., On customer pc, it keeps crashing..., On support2, it keeps iterating...

04/11 PVT: Modified in DEVE 11 build 12.011.504 and verified in P 15.098.18The connection in question has an endplate top & bottom distance of zero. That is why the brown lines are there, the dimension lines fall together since the distance between them is zero.This has now been modified, when a dimension is zero, the dimensionline is not drawn.

NWEB-9MWCPW Go in to steel menu = crash. Problem = steel connections. Try to display steel connections = crash. Work-around = remove steel connections through 'Tools -> cleaner'. Please solve the issue where steel connections cause crashes, like in this case.

HBAI-9SQGQY "Displacements of nodes" is only visible when a 1D-member is in a project. A project with only 2D-members doesn't give this option in the results menu. You can test it with the project in attachment, when you delete the 1D-member you won't see "displacements of nodes" in the result menu.

NWEB-9ACA9Y Look at the two printscreens. The cut-outs are different before and after launching the calculation. There are some layers with the option "structural model only" in the project. But also when deactivating this option in the layers, we have the same problem. How can we solve this?

NNLL-9R9E6X Aluminium: Issue in Bending Check alpha ratio The Aluminium bending check shows an alpha value of 1,02 In essence alpha can be maximally 1,00. I believe the issue here is that the Wel of the gross section is used and not the Wel of the initial shape.

07/01 PVT: Modified in P version 15.098.26The unexpected alpha value was caused by an inaccurate user input: the initial shape does not properly match the gross shape and in this case has an inertia which even exceeds the gross shape.A limit was added to the alpha value however the user should review the cross-section and modify the initial shape accordingly. The general section editor allows the visualisation of both the 'Basic shape' and the 'Thin-walled representation'. This can be used to visualise if the shape matches or not. In typical situations the initial shape is slightly smaller than the gross shape, not bigger.

NWEB-9PM6QC Solver crashes when calculating project in attachment with seismic load case. Is it possible to recover the project with seismic loads?

NWEB-9MYDSL solver crashes on NL comb 19 (also if you give the file a very short name), I tried to run the project with only one cross section on it and still does not work , (the combination when the error appears is changing with the cross section number, appearing even for smaller combinations as 14 or 15) . , If I remove other NL combinations, and only calculate NL comb 19, then no problem., If I calculate NL comb 18 untill 25, then the messages as you can see in image start to appear (if I click 'ok' then it appears again for the next combination), How can we fix the calculation?

JPOL-9QZD6D User reclaims that unit weight (in kg/m) for some particular steel members is wrong - please check CS30, CS46 or CS60 in attached project. NNLL-9QZFRM The client cannot use esacdt.03 (option "free bars- new free bar" isn't visible in concrete menu) in SEN14, he can use it in SEN13. I reproduced the problem in SEN14 by only selecting the following modules: - ESA.1400 - ESA.00 & ESA.01 & ESAS.00 & ESAS.01 - ESA.08.A - ESACD.02.01 - ESACDT.01 & ESACDT.03 - ESAS.16 & ESAS.18 & ESAS.19 My question is what modules/option in SEN14 needs to be activated in order to use free bars?

The problem will be solved in Deve_06...it means, that it will be available in SEN15

NNLL-9SZQE4 Crash when I open this project, goto the service "Combination of mass groups" and try to delete one of these combinations. ps: There is a workaround by first deleting the mass groups, then the seismic load cases, and only then the combination of mass groups.

NWEB-9NUD29 I cannot switch the filter ON/OFF When switching on the filter in Scia Engineer, you will receive an error message like the print screen in attachment. However I find it strange, I had problems to reproduce it, sometimes I also receive this message, sometimes I do not get this message and everything works fine. Have you ever seen this message?

NWEB-9FJJGU The comment by user to bug => link in attachments I am confused whether the 0.225% is to be used to control crack and deflection in which case the term would be over-reinforcement or you would like to say that this is a pure tension case. I suspect it is meant to be pure tension but then I do not see where the 0.225% comes from? I will again refer to BS8110 Table 3.25 as sent previously and there is no 0.225%. Why Shells only? Shell can take bending and shear and pure tension is a case with in plane forces only ie tensile force only in the member.

I would like to know why 0.225% and then I think we need to rename it in SCIA as "overtensionned" is misleading.

NWEB-9LG5RX Wrong unity check appears in the old concrete capacity check. Please see capacity check of member 210 in attached project (activity is already filtering this member when you open the file). The normal force N in section is -4708 kN and limit normal force Nu is -8378kN. I would expect UC=0,56 but it is inverted and SEn gives us the value of 1,78 (se attached picture with the detailed output). Note that new concrete (beta) gives NEd=4708 kN (identical as above), NRd=9181kN (nearly identical as above) but the UC=0,51 (correctly). Tested in 14.0.115

NWEB-9PWBEW crash on heavy NL calculation [fixed in D7] Model in attachment will calculate for hours, but at a certain point you will receive a message "Scia Engineer has stopped working"., Following the customer this happens at the very end of the calculation when the final forces are determined.

NWEB-9MSAN6 Free surface load can't be transformed to loads on load panels. In the attached project, there is a problem with free loads and load panels (see load case SW roof). There is a free surface load FF27. This load has to be transfered to the load panels of the roof. All the load panels are selected as the entities where the load should be transfered to. But the load panels will not be loaded. What can we do to solve this?

NWEB-9LZKPS See project in attachment and do the punching check. The customer has defined an opening near the column, but it looks like Scia Engineer does not take into account the opening. When deleting the opening, we have exactly the same result, however, I would expect we get a lower value of VEd. I have found already that the problem is located at the position of the column. At this moment, it is set as 'parallel Y side' but when changing it to an 'internal' column, the opening is taken into account in the punching check. So for the moment, I also suggested this workaround to the customer. Why is the opening not taken into account with other positions than internal position?

The problem is solved in SEN15

JBES-9SWCWS Scia Engineer menu crashes when opening the steel menu. Cause = Scia crashed in the morning too when client was looking at plans for the connections. He recovered project and then the problem with crashing steel menu was there. Work-around = delete all connections through Tools -> cleaner

NWEB-9ACKAS Look at the project in attachment and look at the deformations of plate D97 for loadcase "PERM1 - Poids Propre". This plate is supported by the walls D94 and D95, but you can't see this in the deformation of the plate. It seems that they are not connected correctly, but I don't find any problem in the connection between the plates. Can you explain this strange deformation? Or is this a bug?

NNLL-9R27VN The rotation of the CSS defined by parameter "Alpha" in 1D member properties is not taken into account. See the attached project 3DstressAlpha.esa and screnshots. Displayed 3D stresses are the same while 1D members has different setting of Alpha parameter.

NNLL-9RGBE9 Bug in punching check: Scia Engineer 14.0.1043 takes the wrong value for Vrd,max (Punching check, see printscreen in attachment). SEN takes Vrd,max = 0,4*v*fcd this should be according NBN EN 1992-1-1 Vrd, max =0,5*v*fcd.

NNLL-9SPE72 Crash during refresh of a connection Customer crashes during refresh of the connection in Node N31 and all other connections with the same type. On my computer it works. I sent him the DB folder from Scia Engineer. Maybe there is something wrong in his bolt library. Because if I remove the bolts from the connection and put them again on, then I don't crash. If I only change the tickness of the headplate and then go to refresh, then I get a crash also. Can you find out from the crash report, why it crashes?

Project was tested with german localisation using 14.1.96, where no crash occured. Set as Bug - Closed - Duplicate problem.

NNLL-9TCCLG There is an incorrect 2D topology in slab 207. I have found that 2 internal edges which are drawn over an opening are causing the problem (ES936 and ES937) However, when I make them shorter until the edge of the opening, I get the message that the 2D member (207) geometry is invalid and a second message that I now have an incorrect topology in slab 196 (I have also attached my adapted version). I do not know how to solve these errors?

RCCA-9P7PXL Scia crashes when the client generate the mesh. Question: In the model in attachment, when the client ask the generation of the mesh, SEN is always crashing. But, when he deletes all supports, SEN is able to generete the mesh. Where is the problem? I did many test but I didn't find it.

Please modify S89 and S86 in the way that they are cylinders (i.e.circular edges have to be perpendicular to straight one), then intersection can be generated. For detailled explanation - see comment from Mr. Zeiner

NWEB-9NC8B4 User sometimes has troubles with the 'End' function (ESC or right mouse button). It mostly happens when he is placing 1D members. After placing them, the mouse keeps showing the snap points, he then has to select other functions in the menu first before he can draw another element. Issue is not reproducable on support, but maybe you have some information that prevents this on user side?

JPOL-9QYHLW Load panel doesn't generate load to edges of subregions. Take a look at attached project and pictures. There is a slab with subregions, but the edge corresponding to subregion is not taken into account for load transfer if the load panel has got type "panel to edges and beams). It takes - ont he other hand - into consideration two additional edges that have nothing to do with the panel. Only panel type "panel to edges" works OK. Tested in 14.0.1043

JPOL-9R2D5Y View perpendicular to working plane doesn't change the view so that axis X is horizontal and Y vertical in case that USS is only rotated around global Z. In case your USS is absolutely general (rotated, inclined, whatever)the command "view perpendicular to working plane" changes the view so that we see the structure in direction of current Z axis and current X and Y correspond to edges of your screen. However, when the USS is only rotated around global Z, we see the structure in direction of Z axis but current X and Y are not horizontal and vertical. See attachec picture.

HBAI-9PVH5N Proposal: When calculating minimum reinforcement of a 2D-element in the Dutch national annex SEN14 uses formula 9.1N. This formula is the same as in the NEN-1992-1-1 but they call it As,min1. But Scia doesn't calculate As,min2 = 1,25 x As, calculated in ULS. Can we implement this simple formula in future versions of Scia Engineer? See attachment for formula As,min2 in NEN-EN1992-1-1.

NWEB-9PRLUR Incorrect mass on an arc Try please to open the "...simplified.esa" file and run the modal analysis. The line mas on the arc gives an error message, that the mass is incorrect. I tried to reduce the length but without success.

The permanent loadcases MUST be in all combinations which are generated from CO1 and SLU. But if you look at the result tables in Engineering report, you will see /2 and /11 combinations. These combinations doesn't contains the permanent loadcases, as displayed in the combination key table. Also if I create new engineering report, its te same. So the engineering report is not responsible. I tried to remove the absencies, create new combinations, change the loadcases from permanent to variable and back, but all without success.

NNLL-9QZHRE Nonlinear calculation of attached project stops with solver.exe message during 1st iteration. But I can not identify the probem from the error message. Mesh generation is ok, linear calculation is ok. Nonlinearity is needed for tension only members in structure. If I try 14.1, nonlinear calculation starts without error message. Can we provide 14.1.67 to customer?
