Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is among the foremost of institutes of national importance in higher technological education and in engineering, basic and applied research. Since its establishment, the Institute has played a vital role in providing the technical manpower and know-how to the country and in pursuit of research. The Institute ranks amongst the best technological institutions in the world and has contributed to all sectors of technological development. The Institute will have completed 167th year of its existence in October 1996. Since its inception it has been a fountainhead of new ideas and innovations in science and technology and continue to be a source of pride for all Indians.

It gives me an immense pleasure to introduce you to THOMSO'14, our annual youth festival, on behalf of our prestigious institution, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. Recognized as one of the greatest and the grandest youth festivals of India, Thomso encompasses in itself lavish history, splendid culture and a profoundly rich heritage of IIT Roorkee. Recognising this event of gargantuan proportions, the Government of Uttarakhand proclaimed Thomso as the "Annual Youth Festival of Uttarakhand". Thomso, at its core, embodies the spirit of life and gaiety.The theme of Thomso’14, ‘Devil’s Symphony’ , signifies the independence of human thought, spirit and culture. It captures the fact that the basic essence of humanity lies trapped in the culture, passed through the generation, an essence that time is what we should learn from. There is always a glory of brightness following the dark. We, the students of IIT Roorkee, strive to attain perfection by making Thomso a brilliant masterpiece of grandeur and eminence. Through Thomso'14, we also aim at creating an impact for the betterment of the economically and socially backward classes of both the urban and the rural population. The fest plays host to the most strikingly talented scholars and academicians from all over the country, attracts media moguls and celebrates the divine congregation of culture and intellect. With a behemoth footfall of more than 20,000 students, comprising several IITs and NITs, Thomso has become the abode of this ambrosial combination.Looking forward to seeing you at Roorkee during Thomso’14 !

One of the most popular events of Thomso, Vogue is an exhilarating night of fashion extravaganza. Vogue attracts fashionists from all over the country with likes of NIFT and NID showcasing their talent , through apparels, accessories, jewellery design and footwear. Sushmita Sen, Udita Goswami, Annie Thomas and Himanshu Malik are some of the widely acclaimed celebrities who have walked the ramp here at Vogue.

Laughter, it is said, is the key to happiness. Thomso brings to life an event where professional comedians take the stage, Thahake. Thahake has seen the likes of Rajiv Nigam, Pratap Faujdar, Kumar Vishwas, Surendra Sharma and many more, bring the audience joy and happiness with the side effect of pain in the ribs.

It is said the music is the key to one's soul. A combination of a few strings, some notes and different sounds, can make almost any stage come to life.Xhileration is an event which brings one or more famous artists to the stage. The famous bands Euphoria, Jal , the legendary ghazal singer Pankaj Udaas and many more artists have mesmerized the audiences at IIT Roorkee through this event.

The stage is set and the crowd grows excited as the beats grow louder. There is some kind of magic in the air. The audience is about to reach a level of ecstasy never experienced before. Wargasm is about to occur. Wargasm is an event that gives a stage to young and amateur bands to perform with professional headlining bands, in front of a massive audience. IIT Roorkee has seen the likes of Benea Reach(grammy award nominee), Prestorica and Indian Ocean perform at wargasm.Young bands such as Pentagram, Moksha, Mother Jane, Parikrama have all been a part of wargasm. Though headlining bands perform in Wargasm, it essentially is a platform for young bands to achieve their dreams and become big.

Though each contestant is stunning in their own way, the winner is chosen by a panel of professionals and through crowd approval, after a prelim online round via facebook.

Drama is not the mere display of action and direction. It is the breathing product of human imagination, something that sets us apart from other living beings. Drama translates the passion of individuals into a language; language which is beyond simple words and syllables. Abhivyakti gives an opportunity to upcoming actors to show their acting talents and win the hearts of audiences as well as the judges, through this beautiful method. The stage is set,curtains raised and spotlight cast. Various events namely Nukkad Natak(the street act), Abhivyakti (the stage act) and Abhinay(the mono act) are held under Abhivyakti.

The major events include Debates,Quizzes and JAM(Just A Minute).

WORKSHOPSWORKSHOPS are organized for students who are looking to pick up skills during the hullabaloo that is THOMSO'13. In the past Workshops on street dance, solo dance forms, 3D animation, movie making and many other activities have been provided by certified professionals at IIT Roorkee. Students flock these events in large numbers.

We strive towards making Thomso'14 groundbreaking and unique in the history of IIT Roorkee.We want to set an example and a trend for all college festivals. We hope to make it a platform for upcoming talent, by giving them a stage and an audience unlike any they have experienced before. The true spirit of thomso lies in creating ties between various cultures and cutting across race, caste and religion. We keep this in mind and hope to achieve the same gracefully.
