The Triumph of the Gospel During our worship service on Sunday morning, as the choir was singing the beautiful anthem, “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” my eyes looked up and I saw the stained-glass window that is titled, “The Triumph of the Gospel.” The window symbolizes our hope and faith that this Gospel, the “Good News” of God’s eternal love will prevail. As this Lenten season commences, this is the message for all of us to remember.
This window is particularly important to me. Fifteen years ago when we were building our present building, it was my joy to be able to donate the window in honor of Janet. It re-minds me today that despite aggravating and perplexing circumstances that love will prevail. The last several weeks have been weeks of joy tinged with the growing realization of how much has been lost and a glimpse of what the road ahead will be. Into that certainty and un-certainty, we journey with the confidence that God’s love for us, our love for God, and our love for each other will not fail.
Lauren and I were visiting Janet on Sunday. I told Janet that I loved her. She responded without hesitation: “You can’t help it!” Never have more truer words been spoken. It was such a sweet and precious moment. Later, while we were still sitting on the couch, I told her that “I love my Janet.” She said the words for which I always yearn: “I love my Steve!” then she looked over at Lauren and said, “I love our friend here too!” I think of how much Janet is teaching me during these days. I see such love in her eyes and such joy. I told her tonight, “I have loved you forever!” It is a mys-tery of love and grace. I cherish these days and am so thankful for the love I have been given and continue to receive. Over the weekend, Valerie and Lauren were reading from Janet’s journal. She wrote in such an eloquent manner about each of our children and shared her thoughts of her first trip to Kiev in 2004. Her writing was so organized and so concise. It moved each of us because it reminded us of a person who was so capa-ble and how that memory is fleeing from us. It did our hearts good to remember our Janet as she was and it does our hearts good to experience our Janet as she is now because love does triumph!

LINDSAY’S NOTES If you've come by the choir room on Sunday mornings before Sunday School, you've probably heard some great music. I am proud to say that is my Youth Choir! We've been having a great time singing songs and playing instruments. We hope to sing in a ser-vice very soon. Our Children's Choir has also been working on some songs to sing in some upcoming services. The past few Wednesdays, they have been singing about all the creatures of the world and how God loves all of them. We are also working on a song for Palm Sun-day, which will be here before we know it. I am so proud of all of our music ensembles! As I have always said, McGill is full of talent.

MINISTER OF MUSIC This past Sunday, we observed the first Sunday in Lent. I find the music of this season to be very beautiful and meaningful as we prepare our hearts and minds for the Easter celebration. The hymns we sing during Lent cause us to think; to look inward and seek guidance and forgiveness. Most of the hymns we use during Lent are seldom used during any other part of the church year. As we worship together in the next few weeks, let us be mindful of the meaning of the hymns we sing. If we do, Easter will be much more of a celebration. The Sanctuary Choir will meet again this Wednesday evening, March 8th,at 7:15 p.m. The Sanctuary Bells will meet next Wednesday, March 15th. We then will be back on our regular schedule. I look forward to seeing you this week.

What is Share the Harvest Commu-nity Farm Project? The community farm is run by volunteers. It was estab-lished in 2015 as a grassroots effort to alleviate hunger for children and fami-lies throughout Cabarrus County. How can I help? There are many opportunities to work in different ca-pacities including field preparation, planting, transplanting, harvesting, spe-cial events, crop maintenance and seed-ing. The farm provides the perfect op-portunity for people of all ages to learn about farming, On March 11 from 8-noon volun-teers are needed to plant carrots, beets, sugar snaps and to fertilize. On March 25 from 8-noon volunteers are needed to weed the garden. General work days start on April 1. To get more information about the farm on our campus you can email [email protected].
