Dear Residents, With a few warm days of Indian Summer yet remaining, we are into the changing of the season. We will soon trade sunshine and water sports for hearth, family and holidays. Yes, we truly have a "good life" here at Riverside Lakes.

This time of year calls for reflection - for looking back

over the events of spring and summer. We’ve had a busy and challenging year. Although, some things haven't turned out as planned, we can't overlook the good things that have happened. Our HOA membership numbers are higher than ever before. We’d like to thank our members for supporting the HOA and keeping our community together as we

strive to make this a great place to call home.

The Board continues to work hard to put into place processes and procedures which will provide continuity, consistency and clarity for our members and future boards. Our database of residents’ information is continually updated which provides a more expedient means of communication with our members as well as non-members.

As we get ready for the year to wind down, I’d like to remind everyone we will have openings for the upcoming HOA Board election and would encourage you to get involved by running for the Board or by volunteering to serve on a committee. We

have a 7-member board that works very hard to accomplish our goals; we would love to have more volunteers for committees and events.

Here we are, the most beautiful time of the year,

Autumn! With this wonderful new season, we truly hope we can all put behind any discord and unrest of the past and look to making Riverside Lakes the best place to live now and in the future.

See you at the Fall Festival!

It’s time for our residents to consider

serving on the Riverside Lakes

Homeowners’ Association Board.

The nomination process will soon be

underway. The election will be held at

the RLHOA’s Annual Meeting on

January 16, 2018.

There will be two board seats to fill at

this election. Please give some

thought to serving, or if you know an

individual you feel will make a great

contribution to our community,

encourage him/her to run. If you are

nominating someone, please be sure

to receive their permission prior to

nomination. The only requirement for

serving on the Board is paid

membership in the RLHOA. Each

candidate will be asked to provide a

short bio and a photo to be placed on

election material to our residents.

For your convenience, nomination forms

will be available on-line at

www.riversidelakes.org. or at Barb

Watson’s home. Forms can be mailed

back to RLHOA or dropped off at 660

Riverside Drive – on the front porch you

will find a designated nominations

container. In order to have names appear

on the ballot, all nomination forms must

be received by December 30th.

If you have any questions regarding the

nomination process, please contact Barb

Watson.

We look forward to the upcoming election

and hope you will consider serving our

community of Riverside Lakes.

DIRECTORY UPDATE

REMINDER!

We are in the process

of updating and

confirming resident

information. If your

information from the

last directory has

changed and has not

been updated, please

Update Form

available at

You can also contact

a board member to

get a copy.

Deadline for receiving

updated formation is

December 1st

The HOA is gearing up for

the 2018-2019 Phone

Directory! First order of

business is to sell ads for the

directory … the ads are what

fund the printing/publication

costs and they also generate

revenue for the HOA!

We have a list of businesses

we intend to contact but if

you know someone who

would like to place an ad, go

for it!! And let’s not forget

our residents who have

businesses, we’d love to have

ads from our RL family

showcased in our directory.

We’ll be happy to get the

information to you with

prices and what each package

entails – prices range from

$100 to $200 for the 2-year

period.

We would also like to reach

out to our residents to

volunteer to contact 5-6 area

businesses to solicit their

support in purchasing ads in

our publication.

For more information and to

volunteer, please contact

Nick Heinrich or

Leslie Jacox.

The more ads … the more

revenue … the more the

HOA can do for our

community. Please help any

way you can!!

What did you

find in the

Lake?

Over the summer there

were numerous

occurrences of children

and adults getting cut on

broken glass found in the

bottom of the lakes. Let’s

all be cautious with our

glass bottles and other

sharp objects finding their

way into our lakes & river

causing injury.

Keep our waters clean,

keep them safe.

The Annual Hot Dog

Roast started out as a

perfect event. 83 people

were coming. Jerry and

Rita Sterkel had the

Fishing Island mowed, the

fire was crackling in the

fire pit, food prepared and

neighbors arriving by

pontoon boats.

We were off to the start of

a beautiful evening in a

beautiful atmosphere.

Then Mother Nature come

roaring in with wind, rain,

thunder and lightning. So

there we were, on an

island, under the trees

trying to stay dry – all the

while knowing, “not where

I want to be in a

thunderstorm!”

A big clap of thunder and

we all took off. Grabbed

what we could, jumped on

the boats and back to

shore. All went well except

we almost sank a pontoon,

but we made it.

A big thank you to the

Sterkel’s for turning the

Island Hot Dog Roast into

a driveway picnic. Yes, all

the hotdogs made it to the

Sterkel’s. Residents showed

with up their food and we

enjoyed a sunny evening

with our neighbors and

friends..

Only thing I can say is,

“Well, it’s Nebraska.”

Thanks to all who stuck it

out, you’re the best!

Beautification Projects

The Aesthetics &

Beautification

Committee has

generated a list of

amazing ideas to

improve the looks of

our community with

the overall intent of

increasing all of our

property values! While

we have quite the list

already, we are

welcoming suggestions

by everyone at

Riverside Lakes. If you

have an idea on how we

can improve the visual

appearance of our

community, please email

us at: [email protected]

to submit your ideas. A

member of the committee

will be in touch regarding

your suggestion.

Membership Drive

Our membership is at an

all-time high right now

and for that we, the

RLHOA Board, would like

to say thank you!

While our corporate

expenses are pretty

much ‘fixed’ and we do

sponsor several

member/family social

events throughout the

year, we also spend at

least one-third of our

annual budget on events

and services that benefit

the entire community.

Through the hard work

and generous spirit of

the 50th Anniversary

Celebration Committee,

we have the benefit of

having a little more

funding added to our

budget for more

‘community’ involvement.

We’ve sent a survey

asking our residents for

ideas on how to

enhance/improve our

area. We plan to sponsor

future fundraisers to

finance some of your

suggestions.

We’re getting excited just

thinking of all the things

we’d like to do.

Join today and help us

achieve these goals by

becoming a member of

the RLHOA. We can’t do

it all at once, but we can

certainly do a little at a

time.

Dues are $100 for the

year.

Please join … please get

involved … please be a

part of the positive path

of progress our board is

striving to achieve.

Summer Fun Days were held

July 29th – August 5th.

We started with a great

turnout for the fishing derby

with 16 kids ready to bring in

the big one. The “Biggest

Catch of the Day” came from

Elana Wolf, Vince & Barb

Bower’s granddaughter. She

reeled in a 1.75 lbs., 17 inch

catfish out of the Boating

Lake. Elana won this title 2

years ago also. On the

Fishing Lake the largest fish

was a .6 lb. bass caught by Eli

Larsen. Elana and Eli

received trophies and all

participants received

certificates for their efforts.

A big Thank You to our

fishing judges Steve Erdei,

Barb Watson and Char

Westley for their official

weigh-in.

The Horseshow Tourney was

a big hit as usual thanks to

our hosts the Repperts,

O’Gormans and Zisecks. Dick

Mckie was the big winner; his

name was added to the

Horseshow Tournament

Trophy. Congratulations!

The Ducks were in full force

floating down the Elkhorn on

Summer Fun Days – Wrap Up

Thursday evening. A big

thank you to the Heinrich’s

for hosting the event in their

backyard and the Esser’s,

Murphy’s and Kevin Spier for

taking care of the ducks on the

river. The fastest duck made

our new neighbors, Mike and

Lisa Kent very happy. Their

granddaughter, Hanna’s duck

came in first place. And right

behind in second place was

Tara League’s duck, with Russ

Stork’s in third. It was a fun

night hanging out on the river,

enjoying conversation and the

beautiful weather.

We wrapped up our Summer

Fun Days with a Luau in the

Park. The evening started

with games for the kids and

lots of fun prizes. A big thank

you to our volunteers for

manning the games and prizes,

the kids had a great time.

Dinner was served under the

tent with seating in the

pavilion. Everyone seemed to

like the new set up. Pulled

pork, fried chicken and

pineapple upside-down cakes

homemade by Jim & Barb

Watson and Barb Bower were

served, along with all the

goodies everyone contributed.

Trophies were handed out to

the 4th of July Boat Parade

winners. The Boating Lake

trophy went to Rowan & Joan

Zetterman and the Fishing Lake

trophy went to Buck & Sandy

Wehrbein. Thank you to our

judges, the Rivetts, Erwins,

Spragues, & Aschenbrenners!

The 50th Anniversary

Committee sold $180 in raffle

tickets for the Blue Bird Quilt

donated by Jan Heliker. Nick

Heinrich had the winning

ticket.

There were some specials

moments when some of the

original homeowner’s from 50+

years ago shared memories of

the past. It was great to have

them join us.

It was a wonderful evening

under the stars with music

provided by “Don’t Blame it

on the Karaoke” with dancing

Hawaiian style – in the sand.

Thank you to all our

volunteers for bringing these

events together. Your

participation is huge! THANK YOU!
