The Nyiragongo is a volcano. The volcano is very dangerous because it’s near Goma. Goma is a small city. Goma is the capital of Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa.

Specifically, the volcano Nyiragongo is on the mountains Virunga.

Nowadays the volcano Nyiragongo is an active volcano, one of the most dangerous and important.

First in January 1977, there was a big explosion and the lava fell down the hillside. Then the lava and the ashes killed around 100 people.

In 1892 the lava killed again a lot of people and covered their houses.There were few survivors

In 2002 the lava did the same thing, but the people could escape on time because a scientist informed before the volcanic eruption.

In 2005, the airport is still closed because the mud covered part of the city and the airport.

Today the airport stays closed from the eruption.
