THE VISION

Welcome to our seventh issue of Kowloon Tong School’s Newsletter – The Vision (Vivid Inspirational Stimulating Intelligent Outstanding Newsletter). This year, students have been taking part in different activities which can widen their horizons.

They can develop their reading skills and build their self-confidence in the Language Day activities.

Kowloon Tong School(Primary Section)

Our school is dedicated to helping students develop fluency and to enhancing their speaking and reading skills. Starting this year, students are involved in some reading and speaking activities in which they have the opportunity to read aloud a poem, chant, fable, story or even a play printed on the Parent-Student Activity Worksheet (PSWS) in class. The best presenters in each class have an opportunity to showcase their dazzling hard work, and read on stage during one of the school language days! Learning on “LEAP”! <Learning English Audio Platform (LEAP) is a new e-platform where parents and students can find the audio recordings of the reading materials prepared by our NETs. The Hong Kong Budding Poets ( Engl ish ) Award 2010 -11

Poet of the School Theme: Whales

Whales are the biggest mammals in the world. They originated from land.

Evolution changed their look. Giant body super power of the sea.

Big mouth open thousand fishes swallowing.Travelling in the ocean thousands of miles.

Humans catching whales, they cry.Environment damaged, whales died.

Whales behave friendly to us.We don’t want them to be extinct.

Let’s keep the ocean clean.Give whales some room to survive.

When you see the word, ‘budding’, what would you think about? Is it anything related to the growth of plants? At KTS, we really want our students to grow…in the literary field. The Hong Kong Budding Poets (English) Award aims at fostering students’ creativity and high-order thinking ability. The appreciation of poetry is also strongly promoted. Students can manipulate their language skills and original thought to strive for excellence in the English language. In the year 2010-11, a Primary Four student from our school, Lin Chun Lung, was selected for the award, ‘Poet of the School’. The achievement set another milestone for future development.

When Alice is on the trail, she suddenly remembers that the King, the Queen

The book has inspired me because everybody can overcome the difficulties even if you have Asperger’s. The book is worth reading because the characters of this reader are strong. It is a lovely and meaningful book for children. It may help people to understand their own difficulties and teach others how to live a better life. I would recommend this reader to my classmates because I am also eleven years old. Perhaps one day we may face some other problems to deal with.
