New Parks Youth Centre has 4 candidates running in the Leicester Young Peoples Council Elections!

On Saturday 8th March 2014 Sir Peter Soulsby announced all four of our young people were successful in gaining seats on the YPC! Aysha, Ella, Jake and Hannah also part of the New Parks Youth JAG (Joint Action group), already have a head start on their views and ideas in changing the area. They are part of the New Parks Youth JAG (Joint Action Group) which looks at reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in New Parks. On Monday 10th March they were invited to the Town Hall to be of-ficially sworn in and welcomed onto the council by Cllr Vi Dempster (Deputy Mayor with responsibility for children’s services). The hard work will begin once the young people have undertaken two days of training and a residential with the full YPC. They will then be involved in ensuring that young people’s opinions are taken into account when decisions are made on services for young people by attending ward meetings. We are extremely proud of all four candidates and look forward to the positive change and influence they will have over their next two years in office. Well done guys!!

Leicester Young People’s Council, (YPC), is a group a group of 13-19 year olds who represent the views of other young people from across the city for Leicester City Council on their plans, policies and process’. In New Parks five young people ran in the election, four of whom attend New Parks Youth Centre. They were Aysha Wood (aged 17), Ella Flan-nery (aged 17), Hannah Maxwell (Aged 18), and Jake MacCabe (Aged 18). Also elected was Kara Gill-Harrison from Braunstone / Rowley Fields area.

We now have 100 local children and young people on roll (ages 2 to 18 yrs). Dance teachers are also local residents with dancing qualifications. Two of the teachers were students of SuperTroupers and have been supported through their level three qualifications at college. Classes start from as little as £2 per hour and lesson are at the New-foundpool WMC on Beatrice road. All volunteers are DBR checked, and have qualifications in first aid and working with children

Super Troupers

SuperTroupers is now in its ninth year and is going from strength to strength. We are a voluntary run group with local residents volunteering their time on a Saturday.

The group has won awards at the Dream Academy Dance Festivals at Wreake Valley in all different styles of dance, and won the overall tro-phy for our Baby Troupe Dance. All the dances were choreographed by Lucy Randall (17yrs). Her patience and dedication to the children at SuperTroupers has paid off and the children’s self-belief, self-esteem and their overall well-being has im-proved dramatically.
