Most activities are initiated from three distinctive competencies of Kasetsart University namely Agri- culture, Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries, to meet the needs of socio-economic development in Brazil. Those intriguing activities cover student & academic staff exchange, capacity building of young scholars, joint research in such areas as aquaculture, forest biodiversity, plant varieties, wood and pulp & paper technology, natural resources & products, agricultural engineering, and economic crops e.g. soybean, cassava and hevea, as well as sharing resources and research facilities. The University also intends to provide full-degree scholarships for Brazilian students to pursue their study at Kasetsart University. Furthermore, Kasetsart University is willing to promote public-private partnerships on applied commercial research so as to widen the opportunities of business and academic collaboration between Thailand and Brazil. In the very near future, Kasetsart University plans to extend this excellent cooperation to other disciplines based on her very own strengths like Forestry, Science, Engineering and Humanities especially the Portuguese language teaching. At present, there are two active partner universities in Brazil namely Federal University of Santa Maria and Universidade de Sao Paulo, while another one currently under negotiation is Universidade do Estado do Amazonas. Over times, the Royal Thai Embassy to the Federative Republic of Brazil has always rendered kind support and encouragement to Kasetsart University to pave the way for greater Thailand-Brazil relations and her highest goal as a world’s leading research university. On May 20, 2015 at the Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok, Kasetsart University and the Royal Thai Embassy to the Federative Republic of Brazil held a press conference on the academic relations between Kasetsart University and higher education institution and agencies of Brazil. Kasetsart University had a great privilege to be involved by H.E. Mr. Pitchayaphant Charnbhumidol, the Thai Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil, and other key persons at this event namely H.E. Mr. Gilberto Fonseca Guimaraes de Moura, the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Thailand; Mr. Songsak Saicheua, Director General of Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Dr. Anamai Damnet, Acting President and the concerned administrators of Kasetsart University. As Thais have made the generous outpouringof helps to Nepal earthquake victims, Kasetsart University (KU) also organized a charity fundraising event including food and a charity concert performed by Kasetsart University Wind Symphony or KU Wind, the 1st rank and 6th rank Fanfare or Symphony Wind Band of the first Division in Asia and in the world, from the 17th World Music Contest 2013 at Kerkrade, Netherlands. On May 7, 2015, the concert was conducted by Mr. Suraphol Tanyaviboon, a lecturer at Department of Music, Faculty of Humanities and chorused by KU students and sung by other guest singers at the Main Auditorium of Kasetsart University during 4.00-6.00 pm. On this occasion, Kasetsart University Alumni Association was a co-host to support the event. Before the concert started, the participants had been welcomed to purchase the screened printing T-shirts “Kasetsart for Nepal” and enjoy a variety of recipes. Also, they could join the donation through the box located in the reception desk to donate money. All

International Trade Promotion (DITP) and 14 Thailand’s Educational Institutions. Having found it important to prepare and develop the capability and mobility of future employee, especially the new graduates for real work situations, the ASEAN working group under the supervision of Department of International Trade Promotion or DITP organized the two major events on this specific day. The first event was the meeting and discussion with the educational institutions of Thailand on guidelines for implementation of Human Capital Development for AEC. The second event was the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony between DITP and 14 Thailand’s educational institutions. On this occasion, Dr. Damrong Sripraram has been designated to sign the MOU on behalf of Kasetsart University with Ms. Nantawan Sakuntanaga, Department of International Trade Promotion Director-General, Ministry of Commerce.

Prof. Dr. Bordin Rassameethes, the Acting Vice President of Kasetsart University, stated, “We feel deep sorrow for the loss of lives in Nepal. We tried to help by contacting Ministry of Public Health to offer some necessary tools for living consisting of 2 portable aqua purifiers (MAP 3.2 version) and 2,240 packs of instant stir-fried ginger with textured vegetable protein. We are fully intended to support the Public Healthcare services and doctor teams by providing clean water and instant protein products during this difficult time.” In addition, Kasetsart University also opened an account to donate to Nepal : Bank of Ayudhya, Kasetsart University branch, “Kasetsart University for Nepal”, account number 374-1-66470-7.

On April 23-24, 2015, ASEAN Teacher Education Network (AsTEN) has organized the Second Meeting of Presidents at Bayleaf Hotel, Manila. This meeting was hosted by Philippines Normal University which at present acts as the Secretariat of AsTEN. The purpose of this meeting is to chart strategic directions for 2015-2018 and to identify priority projects for 2015-2016. Kasetsart University has recently joined this network which comprises ten member institutions from ten ASEAN countries. KU’s represen-tatives to this meeting were Associate Professor Prompilai Buasuwan, Acting Assistant President for International Relations and Associate Professor Surachai Jewcharoensakul, Dean of Faculty of Edu- cation. Main discussion of this meeting were AsTEN’s strategic plans and opportunities for member institutions to work together in promoting quality of teacher education in the region.

On May 9-10, 2015, Universiti of Putra Malaysia has organized the UPM Post-graduate Open Day and Exhibition 2015. At the same event in the past years, there were approximately 2500 potential students had visited the event each year and around 1500 of them ended up to applying for a Master or PhD programme with UPM.This year, UPM has invited Kasetsart University as one of the international collaboration institutions. Miss Nithikarn Pongsathidporn, a representative from the International Affairs Division, Kasetsart University has participated in this special event in order to promote the Dual Degree programme between KU and UPM. This year event was very successful.Kasetsart University has received many attentions from the potential students who are interested in enrolling under KU and UPM Dual Degree programme, for example, Ms. Mina Habibi Asr who is interested in Dual Degree in Food Science Engineering in 2016; Mr. Jeo Jee Hein is looking for a field of PhD study in Veteri-nary Medicine and Mr. Mohd Herman Bin Zolkapli who is interested in Master degree in Agriculture/ Entomology and etc. This collaborative programme for postgraduate studies between Universiti Putra Malaysia and the Kasetsart Univer-sity has brought a major important role in promoting the student opportunity inter-nationally. The programme is especially advantages for those looking for careers as researchers and consultants.

On April 24, 2015, 9.00 hrs., Professor Dr. Zaini Abdullah, Dean, Faculty of Business and Management and his colleagues from Centre for Postgraduate and Professional Studies , Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, paid a visit to Kasetsart Univer-sity. On this occasion, They visited the Graduate School and Faculty of Business Administration to discuss about curriculum development and academic cooperative activities to strengthen academic linkage such as student and staff exchange. Besides, Universiti Teknologi MARA invited Kasetsart University to join the “Advances in Business Research International Confer-ence 2015 (ABRIC2015)” to be held in November 2015. This conference aims to provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to share their research work and to create rigorous international research collaborations.

There are 10 teams from 3 countries including Japan: Gifu University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and University of FukaiTaiwan: National Central UniversityThailand : King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkra- bang, Kasetsart University (Bangkhen Campus, Kampaengsaen campus, and Chalermphrakiet Sakon Nakhon Province Campus), Srinakharin- wirot University, and Rajamangla University of Technology Rattanakosin. The steel bridges designed by the competing teams are evaluated according to the following criteria: construction cost, structural cost, total cost, aesthetics, presentation, prediction of deflection, and overall performances. On this occasion, the team from Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus managed to win 5 awards as follows: 1. Overall Performances Award 2. Structural Cost Award 3. Lightweight Award 4. Total Cost Award 5. Prediction of Deflection Award Winning the highest award called “Overall Performance Award” led the team claim the championship of BRICOM. This is the second victory of Thai students to win this competition and bring a reputation to Thailand’s civil engineering education.

Students from Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University, Kampaengsaen Campus participated in BRICOM or The Asia Bridge Competition 2015 held at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang during March 27-31, 2015. Initiated by Tokyo Institute of Technology, BRICOM was once competed only in Japan. Later on, the Institute would like to expand it to be internationally recognized in the Asian region; therefore, the Institute has collaborated with Thailand and Taiwan to organize the BRICOM competi-tion to become an international platform of the constructing steel bridge competition since 2006. The competition is open to undergraduate students enrolled in civil engineering all over Asia. Each institute takes turn to be a host of the Asia Bridge Competition each year. This year, King Mongkut’s Institute of Tech-nology Ladkrabang was the host of the event.

On May 11, 2015, at Faculty of Economics, a group of 30 lecturers, students and staff from Department of Agribusiness, Bogor Agricultural University paid a visit to Kasetsart University as part of “International Agribusiness Fieldtrip to Thailand 2015” Dr. Decharut Sukkumnoed, Head ,Department of Agricultural and Resource Eco-nomics, Faculty of Economics was delivering a special lecture to these delegates on “Agribusiness in Thailand”. After that, the delegates get information how to provide guidance and proceed further in tropical agribusiness in region and to explore for future collaboration such as the Double / Joint Degree Programs and staff & student exchange. This is a good opportunity for both sides not only to share the best practices and lessons learned among one another, but to strengthen friendship with ASEAN friends.

On May 7, 2015, Associate Professor Dr. Bordin Rassameethes, Acting Vice President, Associate Professor Dr. Prompilai Buasuwan, together with deans and lecturers, warmly welcomed Ms. Christine Potter, Coordinator, International Ex-change Program & Partnerships, Col-lege of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), Cornell University. The meeting was held to discuss the academic cooperation development between these two institutions. On this occasion, Ms. Christine Potter also introduced Cornell University and College of Agriculture and life Science (CALS) to students of Kasetsart University to get their attraction for further academic involvement in the future.

Get the Ball Rolling on NCP with Macquarie University On May 11, 2015, Associate Professor Dr. Prompilai Buasuwan, Assistant to the Vice President, together with administrators and faculty members, Kasetsart University, ex-pressed her hospitality to the delegates, led by Associate Professor Kelsie Anne Dadd, Associate Dean International, Faculty of Science, Macquarie University, Australia. They all had a discussion to promote the 2015 New Colombo Plan activities between both universities. By this time, Kasetsart University is in the top list of partner universities that Macquarie University ranks as priorities for student mobility engagement in the New Colombo Plan scheme.

On May 12, 2015, H.E. Mr. Pitchayaphant Charnbhumidol, the Thai Ambassador to the Federative Republic of Brazil, paid an official visit to Kasetsart University to meet with the administrative members for the third time to follow the coopera- tive activities between Kasetsart University and Brazil since its beginning in 2014. Other academic initiatives such as faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research and scholarships, were also further discussed particularly in the areas of Agri- culture, Veterinary Medicine, Fisheries, Science, Engineering and Humanities.

Timely Follow-up on Kasetsart-Brazil Cooperation

On May 20, 2015, Associate Professor Dr. Bordin Rassameethes, Acting Vice President of Kasetsart University warmly welcomed Dr. John Hope, Associate Dean International, Faculty of Education, University of Auckland, New Zealand. The purpose of his visit was to follow up the potential academic collaboration. On this occasion, both administrators agreed to jointly develop collaborative projects which would significantly lead to an establishment of the Memorandum of Understanding between both universities in the future.

On June 5, 2015, Dr. Evi Eviyanti, M.Pd, Chief of Foreign Department together with her students totally 23 persons from Foreign Department, State University of Medan paid a visit to Kasetsart University. All delegates were warmly welcomed by Dr. Parichart Phootirat, Head of the Depart- ment of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Humanities as well as Assist. Prof. Dr. Supanni Chantkran and Dr. Wiriya Lahpetch. On this occasion, they get an information about the Kasetsart University and curriculums French programs given by Assist. Prof. Dr. Supanni Chantkran, Acting Assistant to the President. Such programs could be another good choice for State University of Medan students to learn more about Kasetsart University. After that they had discussion with students from the French Department, Kasetsart University to share their knowledge about student activities and campus life.

On June 8, 2015, at the Conference Room No. 9, the 2nd floor, Kasetsart Golden Jubilee Administration and Information Building, Kasetsart University, Associate Professor Dr. Bordin Rassameethes, Acting Vice President, accompanied with KU Administrators cordially welcomed the delegates from Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) including of Mr. Juha Nurmi, Mr. Taneli KalstrÖm, Dr. For. Jari Parviainen and Mr. Vesa Määttä. The objectives of their visit were to discuss the MOU of Forestry Collaboration between Finland and Thailand and to organize the specific academic seminar in the topic of “Natural Resources Management for Well-Being of People” Collaboration in forestry and natural resources management between Finland and Thailand which was held during June 5-13, 2015. The Faculty of Forestry was the host of the events. In conclusion, Kasetsart University will give full support and participate in every educational activity along with Luke in order to promote the importance of education including of the faculty and/or researcher exchange, student exchange, Co-research project, and research data exchange especially in the fields of Forestry and Fisheries.
