DJ DNIALThe Society Page Magazine caught up with one of the area’s top DJs - DJ Dnial. You can see him on Friday and Saturday nights at many of the top nightclubs in Atlantic City, New Jersey; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or Ocean City, Maryland.
DJ Dnial has held past residencies at Casbah Nightclub (Atlantic City), Royal Jelly (Revel), Red Zone (Philadelphia) and Extreme Nightclub (Delaware), to name a few.
How did you get started in this business?
I have always been into music my whole life. I started going to clubs as a teenager and saw the control that the DJ had over the room and I wanted to be that guy. At the age of 18, I had a bartending job and finally saved up enough money to buy equipment and the rest is history.
What do you like most about performing?
The reaction from people when you play a great or even classic record is why I do it. The crowd is who I play for, without them, there would not be a DJ.
Who has been your favorite celebrity to work with and why?
Having the opportunity to open for Jazzy Jeff was by far the greatest
experience I have had as a DJ. Not only is he my idol but to shake hands with the guy after my set was done and then have him take over the night was one for the books.
What do you think makes you different from other performers?
I try to keep myself different from other DJ’s. I use my turntable background
and try to implement my techniques within my sets. I am not just a push play DJ, I can read a room and actually use some turntable technique throughout my set.
Finish the sentence. My staple song that ALWAYS gets the crowd moving is…
That’s a great question, It usually depends on the night but Robyn S Show Me Love is a classic banger. That record always gets a great reaction.
What is a day in the life of DJ Dnial like?
First thing I do is make sure my daughter is good to go. Then it is off to my day job. I am home by 4 and usually in the studio in the evenings working on my weekly radio show and music for upcoming events. What do you hope your life looks like 10 years from now?
My goal is to continue progressing in the industry
and making myself a brand name. I am passionate about this career and would like to continue traveling and playing different clubs throughout the country.

Party Nerdz,Darnell Hicks
Are you INSANE?by Darnell Hicks and Andrew Manzano
Some weeks ago, my fellow Nerd, Andrew Manzano and I attended a round-table discussion (it was actually more oblong) at the Biological Research And Institute for Neuroses (“BRAIN”). It was during this lecture that my colleagues and I discussed the following quandary: How would you actually know if you were going insane?
That is, if you are insane already, you have lost the ability to judge sanity. You would probably need someone who was still quite sane to make the determination for you. The solution was quite simple: we must compile a list of the symptoms for insanity. Hopefully, many of my colleagues are still sane, otherwise this list is meaningless. This week we are going to list 20 symptoms of insanity that you may or may not have experienced.
YOU KNOW YOU’RE INSANE IF...
1. You not only have a milk mustache, but also a matching milk beard and sideburns.
2. You get a full body tattoo of your favorite wallpaper and blend in just fine.
3. You install airbags on Wall Street just in case the stock market crashes.
4. You’re constantly running from the government, in a small circle in your apartment.
5. You try to popularize the saying, ”Well if that ain’t the stork’s beak!”
6. Your jail cell has an imaginary chandelier.
7. You think the cereal Cheerios is based on a true story.
8. You attempt to book a Norwegian Cruise...all the while, not having what the locals call “money.”
9. You buy a ping pong table with matching plates and silverware.
10. You walk into a museum and ask, “Can I borrow this?”
11. You’re convinced “Baby Got Back” is a song about an infant who has returned from a long journey.
12. You frequently attempt, but constantly fail, to order Lebron James over the internet.
13. You purchase a giant rattle and stack Huggies on your head claiming
to be the “Baby King.”
14. You make a valiant effort to stop gang violence by collapsing on the floor, whimpering in a fetal position while sucking your thumb.
15. You trade in your 2009 Ford Focus for a 1984 Teddy Ruxpin.
16. You don’t just have a 5:00 shadow, you have an 11:45 total eclipse of the face.
17. You stuff your children’s stocking with pumpernickel bread in hopes that “Fiber Claus” will pay them a visit.
18. You truly appreciate the timeless charm of a compound fracture.
19. You set up a roadblock on Sesame Street.
20. You purchase an inflatable Kim Kardashian doll, only to release it into the air during “That blessed hour.” If you have your own unique symptoms that you feel are worthy of na-tional recognition, submit your ideas to [email protected] and/or our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/PartyNerdsInc. We will publish the top selections in weeks to come.
