It is very likely residents will see ground work beginning this fall on the future site of the Badlands Community Facility. This week the Town of Drumheller sent out a request for tenders for a site project to build up the base of where the facility will soon be erected. “Tenders have been called for the placement of pit run gravel to be placed on the site of the facility, which is John Anderson Park,” said Drumheller CAO Ray Romanetz. On Monday morning a group of perspective contractors toured the site. Romanetz explains the goal of the project will be to raise the site approximately 1.5 metres, about the same height as the existing dyke north of the park, to the 100 year flood level. Romanetz says he expects it will be a quick turnover. “We have a really short tender close, and it is to close this coming Thursday, (November 5). We are hoping if we get suitable pricing in, we’ll be able to award it by Monday,” said Romantez. “The idea is we get the pit run in place this fall so that when we tender this project--probably in mid-February--the soil will be in place and it won’t delay the construction project.” The funds for the site work and pit run will be taken from the already approved budget for the Badlands Community Facility.

NoradTrack’s Santa Clause

The NORAD Tracks Santa Web site is the newest version of a public relations program by NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, involving the countries of Canada and the United States. Every year for over fifty years on Christmas Eve, NORAD has put out stories of how their powerful tracking systems, such as the Distant Early Warning Line (DEW Line), had detected Santa Claus leaving the North Pole to deliver his presents to children in North America, and in more recent years, around the world.Go to On December 1 ,2009 at : www.noradsanta.org to play games , read all about Santa Clause .

2009 WORLDSKILLS COMPETITION VOLUNTEERS & TRANSPORTATION

The world comes to Calgary from September 1st to 7th when it hosts the 2009 WorldSkills Competition. The Calgary Catholic School District strongly supports the WorldSkills event and encourages parents to support the event by volunteering.

Over 1,000 competitors from 51 countries will be attending this event and given the magnitude of this event, numerous parent volunteers will be needed at schools to help out in a variety of roles. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your school.

Transportation for students to and from the 2009 WorldSkills Competition during school days will be provided. Please be advised that buses may experience delays that will affect the regular busing schedule due to increased traffic volume in and around the event.
