TRANSCRIPT
“…the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4:17-21

“Wealthy landowners leased land to poor peasants and then demanded a large
percentage of profits. This together with demands for tithes, taxes, and a
variety of tolls kept constant pressure on farmers. It has been
estimated that between 35 to 40 percent of total agricultural production
went for taxes.”
Clinton Arnold, Bible Scholar
“In the East, when a person is invited to one’s house it is usual to receive him with a kiss. In the case of a Rabbi, all the male members of the family wait at the entrance to the house and kiss his hands. In the house, the first thing that is attended to is the washing of the guest’s feet.” - Leon Levison, Palestinian Christian Leader

“Repentance and confession of sins are not ‘works’ offered up to God.
Rather, they are the acceptance, brought about

“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on
them, because they were harassed and helpless, like
sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to
his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are
few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest
field.”Matthew 9:36-38
Christ-Centered Compassion

with others to the place where they are weak,

A Prayer of Hope – Sylvia Gunter"Get your eyes off what's been devastated
or ruined. Do not be paralyzed by the former days. Push aside the roadblock of
regret, live for the present, and move forward for the future. Your past is under the redemption of Jesus. You can live in
