The students were proud of their school which had already made news not only in their region but

also in faraway places. Jungle-relations from other places wanted to open such a school in their very

own jungles. Enquiries for a tie up had come from as far as the Teensukhia Forest in the Far East.

In fact Wilma the Whale wanted Master Shera to train a few of them so that they too could start a

school in the blue waters for the sea-cousins.

Shera himself was such a wonderful teacher and he enjoyed teaching at the school. The students

too learnt a lot of things within the short time they were there.

One summer afternoon, Moley, the Rat scurried into the school squealing that he had seen a lot of

people from Man-land talking of cutting down the trees and making something in its place.

Whhhaaat roared Vanraj the Lion, so they have come this far, is it? He thought of the crown he

would lose, how could he be the king of the jungle if there was no jungle at all in the first place?

Anappa the Elephant sensed the danger immediately. They will not allow us in peace even in our

own land. This was the only last patch of green that we thought was ours, the greedy lot he

trumpeted.

But why would they want to destroy the lovely trees? chorused Chirpies the parrot-sisters perched

on the branches.

As if they care. Anything for a few gleaming notes in their hand retorted Slithery the Python.

KKKRISSISS- growled the Master. The students listened in rapt attention. These Man-Thieves are

not going to stop until they destroy our jungle. Anyone has any idea how to get out of the

situation? he asked, always willing to take in others opinions if they were agreeable.

They whispered in hushed tones but couldnt think of anything to save their tree homes and tree

school.

News spread thick and fast and soon the Cloud-Brothers were fuming in anger and scattering a few

leaves in the process. They loved to play all day above the trees and now these men were going to

cut these very trees. This is all very unfair they thought.

They carried the news to their brothers, the Giraffes and Zebras living across the nearby hills who

nodded sadly at the turn of events.

The Baby Birds and the Butterflies, the Crocodiles and the Lady Birds- all got down to work trying to

think of some idea to help save the forest.

Garuda the Wise Eagle who always came up with ideas said slowly. There is just one other thing

that men like apart from money. We must beat him at his own game.

What is it? asked the animals eagerly. Publicity Yes, at any cost if he gets this, he will not mind

letting the trees go.

But how do we do that?

Simple said Garuda.

Get an announcement on Radio Junglee Live made. Man-king, representative of Man-land is going

to be honoured by all earthlings for setting up the best jungle school. He has been invited by all

inhabitants to discuss about this project and he will be conferred with the title of VAN

RAKSHAK

Man-king was mighty thrilled at this unexpected turn of events. He began dreaming of the distant

lands he could visit talking about something he did not even initiate, but that of course was no

problem. His wife too was thrilled and dreamt of wearing designer clothes and accompanying her

clever husband.

So for now the trees will live and so will the school. Until next time----
