The Rave Mobile Alert System
RAVE is used to send emergency text
messages to cellphones and to cam-
pus email addresses of students, fac-
ulty and staff. The message may alert
you to an emergency situation, in-
cluding university closures and safe-
ty alerts. The system provides weath-
er warnings, including severe thun-
derstorm, tornado, flash flood, and
winter storm.
To receive emergency text messages,
students must have current contact
information in SalukiNet.
The SIU Department of Public Safety is comprised of 40 sworn officers, 6 telecom-
municators, 2 full-time parking agents, and administrative staff. SIU police offic-
ers obtain their authority from the U.S. Constitution, the Illinois Constitution,
and Illinois statutes. All police officers are conservators of the peace and have all
powers possessed by police in cities and counties. All officers are sworn through
the State of Illinois Law Enforcement Training and
Standards Board giving them power to enforce state
statutes, university rules and regulations, and city or
county ordinances, including making arrests. SIU
police officers may exercise this authority within
counties wherein the university or any of its branch-
es or properties are located.

PARKING ONLINE SIU Parking Decals are now available for purchase online. Please visit park-
ing.siu.edu for more information.
To buy a decal, you will need to know your vehicle information, including
make, model, color, and VIN number. Once a payment is made, a temporary
decal will be available to print and your annual decal will be mailed directly.
Parking decals will
still be available for
purchase in the Park-
ing Division office.
The Parking Division
strongly encourages
everyone to utilize the
online system.
WHERE SHOULD I PARK?
With the addition of Lot 11 over the summer, the Parking Division has added
155 new parking spots. Lot 11 is located across from the Student Services
Building and is accessed through Lot 13B. The addition of Lot 11 has brought
changes regarding who can park in certain parking lots in the area. Lots 13A,
10A, and 10B will be blue decal only lots. Lots 13B and 11 will be red decal
lots. Blue decal holders may park in red decal parking lots, but red decal
holders can only park in red decal lots. Parking lot signs are in the process of
being created and installed.
SIU is now a smoke
-free campus!
