From the CLSA Discussion Board: Online Survey: GIS & Land Surveying
My name is Bruce Barrow. I am the GIS Technician for the Town of Yarmouth, Massachusetts, secretary of the Cape Cod Chapter of MALSCE, and current candidate for the Master of Geographic Information Systems degree at The Pennsylvania State University. The title of my MGIS capstone project is "The Undivided Garment: Plats, Parcel Fabric, and GIS." It will examine the relationship between the land surveying and GIS professions, with a focus on the potential impact of the ArcGIS® Parcel Fabric dataset on that relationship.
I would like to invite your members to take a brief SurveyMonkey® survey, which will add to the quality and credibility of my project. The attached invitation contains information about the survey, including a link to its online location. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/7T5J3WT Respondents can take the survey at their leisure and submit it anonymously. Simply forward the invitation to your members for their consideration. Please call me with your questions and concerns in this regard. Thank you.
Sincerely, Bruce Barrow

Changes to NGS CORS on-line data UFCORS3x will be terminated and replaced
by UFCORS4.0. For Pathfinder users this
transition should be seamless. The biggest
change is that UFCORS3x provided GPS
data that excluded L2C and L5 data, and
now will include GPS L2C, L5 and
GLONASS, if available. Users will be able to
exclude GLONASS data but not specific
GPS signals.
For questions about UFCORS please email
2013-Oct-01: Start distributing GNSS data to ftp://geodesy.noaa.gov/cors/rinex
We have data from selected sites all the
way back to 2007 that will replace previous
GPS-only data files. The replacement of the
older data will take a few weeks to com-
plete.
OPUS will remain unchanged using only
GPS L1 and L2 data. If additional signals are
included in the submitted file these will be
removed before processing by NGS.
If you have any questions please do not
hesitate to contact the CORS team:

Editor’s Notes: First, a much longer email was
sent to us. If you would like me to forward it
to you, please contact me. Next, some of the

NGS CORS ONLINE STORAGE TRANSI-
TION FROM GPS ONLY TO GNSS
The NGS CORS Team is ready to transition
from GPS-only to GNSS online storage of
CORS data. (This includes only
GPS+GLONASS data at the present time.)
The transition is scheduled for 1 October
2013. No change in RINEX format will oc-
cur, because CORS data in our online stor-
age available via "anonymous FTP" or
"Standard Download" have been in RINEX
2.11 format since 2007-Sep-10.
This transition will involve a number of
steps:
2013-Aug-19: Updated CORS map to show
which stations supply GPS versus GNSS data
(~800 out of ~1950).
2013-Aug-19: Until the transition date,
GNSS RINEX data are available at: ftp://
geodesy.noaa.gov/cors/tst_gnssrnx/{yyyy}/
{ddd}/{ssss} [yyyy-4 digit year, ddd-3 digit day
-of-year, ssss-4 alphanumeric site id] GPS-
only data remain available, as usual, at: ftp://
geodesy.noaa.gov/cors/rinex/{yyyy}/{ddd}/
{ssss}
2013-Aug-19: UFCORS (User Friendly
CORS) has a new beta version 4.0 that sup-
ports GNSS.

This beta version will remain available until
the transition date, at which point
When I’m not surveying, or participating in CLSA events, I’m probably in West Sac on Lake Washington in a racing shell as a member of the River City Rowing Club. This year the club is participating in the West Sacramento All Charities Raffle. A list of some of the prizes appears on the next page. If you’d like to help me support my club by buying some raffle tickets, please contact me at the meeting, or by email at [email protected]. Tickets are $10 each, with $9 going to the rowing club. Thanks, Jill

2013 chapter dues are half off for all CLSA state association members! We need you to fill out those 2013
membership application forms. The number of Directors the Chapter sends to the CLSA Board of Directors
meeting is based on the number of professional land surveyors who are state CLSA members, and declare
Sacramento as their home Chapter. Please join the Sacramento Chapter and show your support for the
ways in which we support the profession. Be sure your state dues are current!
If your name is not on the list above, please fill out a membership form and send it to Jerry Jones,
([email protected]) as soon as possible. A copy of the form is on page 11.
