The first Reading taken from the prophecy of Zechariah is a very hopeful and encouraging one that better days are coming. During this time, it is especially gratifying. It is a reminder that God is always watching and taking care of us. It is an admonition to trust and to be hopeful because better days are coming.

Yet, we are reminded that we are created in the image and likeness of God. We are admonished that we are the only creatures God has created that can move beyond where we find ourselves initially. As Christians, you and I are called to validate the importance of each and every human life, not to sell ourselves short, but to strive for perfection.

It took awhile, but the sisters finally reconciled. A good thing too, because two months later, the one sister was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and died shortly afterward. But both found a peace. Both found a humility in child-like simplicity.
