BEARERS OF THE WORD The Church has placed a number of notable feast days immediately after Christmas. The feasts of Stephen, John the Evangelist, and the Holy Innocents form a summary of the life lived in Christ, the Word made flesh. What do these have to do with the feast of the Holy Family, which crowns the Octave of Christmas? These feasts remind us that suffering will occur in fulfilling the mission of Christ, and that we are all called to be bearers of this Word whose birth we celebrate. We also see this manifested in the lives of Joseph and Mary, both of whom took social and religious risks in obedience to the will of God, and both of whom were open to the word of God sent to them from on high. In these ways they prefigured the life of Jesus himself. Most likely, few of us found ourselves at Mass this past Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, but the essence of these feasts and the essence of the holiness of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus remain central, a holiness we celebrate today. Welcome A Message from Msgr. Joe Our Christmas celebra on con nues with today’s observance of the feast of the Holy Family. Although only recently added to the Church calendar in 1921, this feast speaks to us of the meless truth that God is with us in all our trials and triumphs of daily family living. We pray for all families that they may manifest the presence of the Lord and the beauty of life. We celebrate our par cipa on in the Family of God who loves and cherishes each of us. This week, we celebrate a New Year. The Church rings in the New Year by celebra ng our most ancient feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, honoring her with one of her most beau ful tles, Holy Mother of God. On this day so filled with the hope of new beginnings and good resolu ons, Mary also stands before us as Queen of Peace, the woman of contempla ve prayer who reflects in her heart on God’s ever‐renewed presence in the world. She is likewise first among the disciples, the woman of gospel ac on, who responds to God’s word and with obedient faith and selfless charity. As we begin this New Year, she points to her Son and says to us what she told the servants at Cana’s wedding feast, “Do whatever he tells you.” As we begin a new year, it is a me of reflec on and a moment to look forward. Because of you, I end the year with great thanksgiving to God, filled with great hope for the New Year. Hope that together, sharing our faith, gi s and love we will grow to be an even more vibrant, loving and witnessing Catholic Community of Princeton.
I pray that each of you were able to celebrate the Na vity of the Lord with great joy. As our Christmas season con nues through the celebra on of the Epiphany on January 7 recalling the adora on of the Magi at Bethlehem, and ends as we celebrate the Bap sm of the Lord on January 8, let us keep the spirit of this great season alive: keep the Christmas lights on and the decora ons, par cularly, the Na vity Scene. The message of Christmas expresses how much God loves us. We need to be reminded of this great message. Finally, if you haven’t “opened” your parish’s Christmas gi to you and your family: FORMED.org, check it out this week. FORMED.org is a “Catholic Ne lix” Sign‐on and enter our parish code: Y47FFE. God bless and a Happy, Blessed and Healthy New Year!

We, the Catholic Community of Saint Paul in Princeton, honor our tradition of welcoming God’s sons and daughters from different cultures and backgrounds to hear and live the Good News of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Baptized and formed into the People of God, we continue to grow in the Apostolic Tradition of Worship, Word and Service. Worship through our participation in the Eucharist and celebration of sacraments; Word, in our commitment to Catholic identity through Scripture and catechesis; and Service, as disciples who share God’s love with all by working together for peace and justice to advance the coming of the Kingdom of God.

Spiritual Direction Tending the sacred rela onship
Spiritual direc on is an on‐going rela onship between a “directee” (person seeking) and a “director” (qualified person giving guidance) wherein a sacred space is created for the explora on and deepening of the spiritual life. Through conversa on and reflec on, the directee becomes more a uned to God's presence and can respond more fully to the Divine as it is revealed in all areas of life. Direc on typically takes place in a confiden al one‐on‐one se ng and may include some form of prayer experience to increase awareness of the movement of the Spirit in the directee’s life. If you are interested in more informa on, please contact Jennifer Hinton at [email protected] or 609‐558‐0985(cell) or Teresa Knipper at [email protected] or 609‐558‐0582(cell). Faith Formation A Message from John Michael McGuire Back in High School I was on the football team and being involved in that sport led to greater focus on diet, exercise, and rou ne. I found that while I was playing a sport, it helped me to become more disciplined in other areas of my life. The requirements of that ac vity made it easier for me to focus on my prayer life, and my academic requirements. I bring this up because many of us will make resolu ons for the New Year that are focused on how we eat, or how much exercise we plan to be ge ng– perhaps our success and discipline in these areas can lead us to be more focused in our faith. How is that? You might ask. Making the effort to eat be er and exercise can get us into be er rou nes, and this can include daily prayer. Maybe the idea of devo ng more me to exercise can extend into the concept of going to just one addi onal weekday Mass
(or help to keep our obliga ons for Sunday and Holy Days of Obliga on). This week let’s pray for a happier, healthier, faith filled, New Year for us and our families. God Bless and Happy New Year.
Inclement Weather Procedure Closing information may be found on the parish website or by calling our emergency closing number at 609‐216‐7605. Please do not call the parish office. Tuesday classes will be cancelled if St. Paul School is closed.

All children from 3 1/2 to 9 years old are welcome to par cipate as campers, and teens are welcome as volunteers. This year’s theme will be Cool Kingdom Party: Mary Leads Me Closer to Jesus. This year registra on will be $55 per child, because each family will be provided with the Bible Camp Audio CD on the last day. If you would like more informa on please contact [email protected].
Summer Academy Dates Summer Academy for the 2017‐2018 Parish Religious Educa on Program year will be Monday, July 24 through Friday, August 3. This program covers a year’s catechesis
requirements over 30 hours in a two week period, and also provides many liturgical and spiritual opportuni es unique to this program. Families par cipa ng in this program are also required to par cipate in three Family Catechesis Sessions and a Family Life Day.
Sensitive Mass Our Parish welcomes families with
special needs to attend our weekly 5:00 pm Sunday Mass. Music, sounds, and sights will be welcoming to those with challenges. We gather as a community to celebrate Successes, Uniqueness, and Challenges of all God’s Children. For further information please contact Barbara Conforti at: [email protected].
Children’s Liturgy of the Word Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a special opportunity for children at 10:00 am Mass to share the Word of God in an age appropriate reflection. Children from 4 years old up to second grade will be invited to come forward after the Collect to receive a blessing and process to the Spiritual Center where they will celebrate a Liturgy of the Word accessible to children. They will return and join their families at the Preparation of
the Gifts. New volunteers are always welcome.
Sacrament Policy Reminder It is expected that children begin preparing for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation/First Holy Communion in first grade, and that young people begin preparing for Confirmation in seventh grade. This policy allows for a child to receive an adequate amount of preparation and catechesis in order to experience and understand the sacraments they will be celebrating.
