THE COG - RCM Meeting 1729 Bulletin 14 November 2018

Presidents Blog for COG 14 November 2018

This week we had a presentation from Ian Steele who spoke to us about KickStart for Kids a charity that he

has started and followed through to be a successful breakfast programme for school kids and it is very

successful and makes a difference in the lives of young school children. They are fed and are able to

concentrate on their school work and the people providing the breakfasts actually show an interest in the

children which assist with the learning process. There is also an opportunity for the breakfast providers to

assist the children with their reading or other simple school work not able to be completed at home.

This week being the second week in the month we have a speaker Terry Langford who is Squadron Commodore with Australian Volunteer Coast Guard. President Paul is pictured with the timber food platter made at the Community Workshop, an excellent Christmas gift for the lady who has everything.

REMEMBERANCE DAY EVENT The Gums Reserve Saturday 10 November 2018

Well it was a beautiful afternoon and evening, certainly great for the event, approx. 78-80 people turned

up for Remembrance Ceremony and the planting of the “Lone Pine Tree”. Once that part of the event was

completed members of the public left and only a very few stayed for the film.

The Rotary Club members and partners certainly showed the community spirit for the event.

I would like to thank the following members who on the day had fellowship and fun serving the

community.

Peter and Emiko M

Sue and Tony

Brenton and Coralie S left The Gums 9.15pm

Taking for the night $367.00 including some drink sales.

Again a big thank you to members and partners for help and fellowship on the night.

At our meeting 7 November we heard from Ian Steele who is the founder of Kickstart For Kids. What an inspiring talk. From noticing and researching poor behaviour and ability to learn in young students to starting a breakfast program in 2009 that now provides around 50,000 breakfasts and 10,000 lunches with 600 volunteers. To find out more www.kickstartforkids.com.au Below our happy members serving BBQ and drinks at The Gums for Magill RSL and Campbelltown commemoration

CAMPBELLTOWN CITY COUNCIL 150TH CELEBRATION Catering Information on the oval for the

Event. Important that members advise if they can help?

If members can indicate as soon as possible when you are able to help in preparing or getting items and

equipment down to Daly Oval to set-up, advise Graeme ASAP.

Information Flyers are attached and will be distributed at next meeting. Flyer for Preparation and Set Up

and Flyer for On the Day.

Duty Times have changed

Members who can help get everything ready on the Friday morning or afternoon?

Members who can help on the Sat Morning to possibly pick up equipment if necessary or help set-up at Daly Oval about 9.00am till we have set-up.

1st Shift to start arriving about 12.00/12.30 as event starts at 1.00pm, 13.00/15.00

2nd Shift Start 15.00-18.00

3rd Shift 18.00 until end (whenever that maybe). Crew to help pack up in our area, but we can LOAD anything until around 10.00 (22.00) and return equipment back to Rotary Shed and-locate any food into frigs.

There has been a change for setting our site and it is now between 8.30am and 10.30am, which means we

need a crew to be earlier say 3-4 members (last time was 9.00am to 12.00noon, starting at 1.00pm)

I’m suggesting say 9.00am set-up at Daly Oval as we need to pick up food on the morning e.g. Bread, Rolls,

other items will be stored at the Rotary Shed ready for pick-up.

So we need help from some members even if we set up and they return later to the shift they wish to do.

We will have food etc BBQ Trailer etc.

Need a few members on the 13th Friday morning/afternoon to prep everything, equipment load BBQ

Trailer to take the next day?

We cannot make any moves off the park until 10.00pm when the show is over. In the meantime I’m

expecting we can slowly pack up ready to leave? Make sure you read the attached information about the

event on the day, in COG last week and this week. Also available here.
