As we pray in Psalm 63 “O God, you are my God, it is you I seek! For you my body yearns; for you my soul thirsts,” these past few months have awakened an immense longing for the communal celebration of the Eucharist. We thank you for your patience through this unprecedented time, and we now look forward to welcoming your return to the Basilica. As pilgrims are once again able to experience the celebration of the Sacraments, the beauty of the art and architecture, and the solemnity of the liturgy and music, we ask you to observe the following:

• Face masks must be worn at all times inside the Basilica, except when receiving Holy Communion

• Please be seated according to the markings on the pews in the Crypt Church and the Great Upper Church, in order to maintain social distancing

• Please follow the directives of Basilica Ushers and Staff when entering the single-file line for Communion, maintaining a distance of six feet from the people around you

Page 4: the of...lord’s prayer sigN of peace Celebrant: The peace of the Lord be with you always. Assembly: And with your spirit. litaNy at the BreakiNg of Bread Celebrant: Behold the Lamb

• At the conclusion of Mass all visitors must exit the Basilica through the east side doors, following the directives of ushers and staff

• Those who wish to stay for private prayer following Mass must re-enter the Basilica through the front east side entrance and proceed to the Crypt Church

• The Sacrament of Reconciliation will take place in the East and West Transept Chapels in the Great Upper Church from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, Monday through Saturday

• There are no scheduled Confessions on Sundays

• The Gift Shop and the Bookstore are open daily from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

• The Shrine cafeteria is closed

Thank you for your patience with these requirements as we stand in solidarity with all our brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those most vulnerable to the transmission of the coronavirus. Thank you for your generous support of the ministry of the Basilica during this challenging time. Collection baskets are located at the doors as you exit the Upper Church. You may also make a generous donation online at https://www.nationalshrine.org/donate/. We thank you for your visit and pray that you may always find Mary’s Shrine to be a place of solace and consolation.

Assembly: I confess to almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary, ever-virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Celebrant: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

Assembly: Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

pro f e s s i o N o f fa i t h

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,

Page 11: the of...lord’s prayer sigN of peace Celebrant: The peace of the Lord be with you always. Assembly: And with your spirit. litaNy at the BreakiNg of Bread Celebrant: Behold the Lamb

consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

(All bow during these two lines.)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

Page 12: the of...lord’s prayer sigN of peace Celebrant: The peace of the Lord be with you always. Assembly: And with your spirit. litaNy at the BreakiNg of Bread Celebrant: Behold the Lamb

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

march for life NoveNa prayer to our lady of guadalupe

Our Lady of Guadalupe, we turn to you who are the protectress of unborn children and ask that you intercede for us, so that we may more firmly resolve to join you in protecting all human life. Let our prayers be united to your perpetual motherly intercession on behalf of those whose lives are threatened, be they in the womb of their mother, on the bed of infirmity, or in the latter years of their life. May our prayers also be coupled with peaceful action which witnesses to the goodness and dignity of all human life, so that our firmness of purpose may give courage to those who are fearful and bring light to those who are blinded by sin. Encourage those who will be involved in the March for Life; help them to walk closely with God and to give voice to the cry of the oppressed, in order to remind our nation of its commitment to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all people. O Virgin Mother of God, present our petitions to your Son and ask Him to bless us with abundant life.

2020-2021 JUBILEE YEAR

For the period of the Jubilee, September 23, 2020 - September 23, 2021, the Holy Father, Pope Francis has granted a Plenary Indulgence (remission of temporal punishment due to sin) to the truly penitent members of the faithful who fulfill the usual conditions (sacramental Confession, Eucharistic Communion, prayers for the Holy Father’s intentions), if they undertake a sacred pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and there devoutly participate in the Jubilee rites, or will at least devote a considerable period of time in pious reflection and prayer on the Christian vocation, for the increase of priestly and religious vocations, and for the defense of the institution

of the human family, having poured out their humble prayers to God, concluding with the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and invocations to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Those pious faithful, the elderly, the infirm, or those impeded by some other serious reason, are equally able to obtain the Plenary Indulgence if, having detestation of sin and the intention of being there, as it is permitted above, fulfilling the three usual conditions, during the anniversary celebrations, in the presence of an image of the heavenly Patroness, they spiritually join themselves, offering their prayers, sorrows, and difficulties of their own life to the merciful God through Mary.
