In the coming weeks there are still a number of events

planned. A final decision on these proceeding will be

made as required.

Teachers will reinforce with students the importance

of personal hygiene which includes:

1. Washing your hands regularly and thoroughly.

2. Sneezing into your elbow or a tissue, disposing

of the tissue straight away and then washing

your hands.

You can support our community health by acting on

government procedures involving self-isolation, keeping students home from school if they are unwell

and seeking medical advice. Please keep them

home until they are completely well or you are

advised by a doctor that they are safe to return. The

school should be notified immediately if your child or

someone in your home becomes ill with COVID-19.

In response to the changes this week, I commend

staff for their professional and calm manner in

supporting students. They have easily adapted to

new routines and ensured they have continued to

deliver learning programs and engage with students.

The students this week have also been fantastic –

following the hygiene requirements and being

respectful towards each other. Talking to many of

them in the playground over the past few days has

been helpful in answering questions and hearing their

understanding of the current situation.

The school will continue to provide updates to

parents as further information comes to hand and

school decision change.

ACHIEVEMENT – HIGH-QUALITY STAFF

Last Wednesday afternoon over 40 of our teachers

attended a professional learning session focused on

supporting students with anxiety.

The 90-minute session led by Professor Jennie Hudson,

Macquarie University, outlined 5 guiding principles in

assisting students who demonstrate the different forms

of anxiety. Professor Hudson shared practical

strategies for assisting those where anxiety starts to

impact on daily life.

As a staff we know that we support families in many

different ways, and I was very appreciative of our

teachers for their willingness to further their own

knowledge and deepen their understanding in the

area of anxiety.

EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIP – PARENT/TEACHER

INTERVIEWS

Bookings for parent/teacher interviews for students in

K-4 opened on Wednesday, 18 March.

Currently we are still asking parents to make a

booking for interviews and this will be reviewed as we

move forward.

This year K-4 bookings for interviews are made online.

This system will make the process more efficient for

parents and teachers. If parents don’t have access to

an internet connection the class teacher or office

can assist.

For students in Kindergarten – Year 4, interviews will be

10 minutes each and will be held on either Monday, 6

April or Tuesday, 7 April. Please see below the

allocated day for your child’s class.

Monday, 6 April – KY, KA, KS, 1B, 1M, 1W, 2A, 3B, 3M,

4T, 4C Ms Cantrill and Ms Harding.

Tuesday, 7 April – KM, KWT, KK, 1F, 1R, 2B, 2S, 2H, 3C,

3/4K, 4D and Mrs Hendriks

Those children in Years 5 and 6 will participate in

student-led conferences. As these are group

conferences this process is currently being reviewed.

SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES – CAN YOU HELP?

For many years as a school we have been committed

to reducing waste and implementing a recycling

system.

To enable us to recycle soft plastics we need your

help.

Students have been encouraged to recycle our soft

plastics, and once they have been collected they

need to be delivered to a local supermarket.

To enable us to continue this practice we are seeking

volunteers to help us with collecting the soft plastics

from school and taking them to a supermarket. Given

the volume each week it would be every couple of

days.

If we could have many volunteers then we can

create a timetable to help.

Please email the school if you can assist:

HEALTH ADVICE FOR OUR SCHOOLS

The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is the

same way you would protect yourself from catching

flu or other respiratory illnesses.

1. Wash your hands

Clean your hands for at least 20 seconds with

soap and water, or use an alcohol-based

sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol.

2. Cough etiquette

Cover your sneeze or cough with your elbow or

with a tissue (and dispose of it immediately).

Avoid close contact with people who are ill.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

3. Stay home if you are sick

If your child is unwell with a respiratory illness

they should remain at home until symptoms

clear up.

Bee Well…

Online bullying – or cyberbullying – is

engaging in bullying behaviour using

technology such as the internet or mobile devices.

Online bullying is different from other forms of

bullying:

It is more likely to happen outside school.

Harmful material can be shared quickly and

long after the first incident.

It can happen anytime, day or night.

It is more difficult for children to defend

themselves or get away.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD IS BEING BULLIED

ONLINE?

The following behaviours may indicate your child is

upset by something happening online:

Being hesitant about going online.

Seeming nervous when an instant message,

text message or email appears.

Being visibly distressed after using a computer

or mobile device.

Suddenly avoiding the internet.

Closing a laptop or hiding a mobile device

when others enter the room.

WHAT CAN I DO IF MY CHILD IS BULLIED ONLINE?

There are lots of things you can help your child to do

if they are being bullied online:

Remind your child not to respond or retaliate.

Keep a record of any incidents of online

bullying for example take screenshots.

Block or delete the user who is bullying

remind your child to change their privacy.

Settings.

Contact the service provider – they can help

to block messages and calls.

Report the bullying. How to report online

bullying?

Keep records or screenshots of calls or messages

that are offensive or hurtful. If the bullying is related

to school, contact the principal to report what has

happened and work together to resolve the issue.

Call the police if your child is physically threatened,

and report serious online bullying behaviour to the

Office of the eSafety Commissioner.
