No Shave November

A True Brotherhood Event

1

Gilliam wanted to make sure that everyone had a chance to win something. Be-cause everyone grows facial hair at a different rate, he came up with three separate cat-egories that the participants would be judged upon. The first is Best Beard. This one is the simple who grew the most facial hair within the month of November. Secondly, there is most creativity. At the end of the month, the brothers will all get together and have a certain amount of time to take their facial hair and shave it to be whatever they want. They are creating their own masterpiece in a sense. Lastly, there is the best effort award. This award will go to the brother who simply cannot go facial fair very well but tried their best to do so throughout the month. This was a way to make it fun and competitive for everyone, even those who can’t grow manly beards like the rest of them.

Gilliam presented the idea to the brothers in late October. All brothers who wanted to participate had to shave their faces on Oct. 31. Gilliam had to document that ev-ery brother was indeed clean shaven going into November. In the picture above, Gil-liam is taking a picture of Owensboro ju-nior Bo Armstrong just after shaving.

How it all started

Logan County senior Luke Gilliam serves as Brotherhood Chairman for the Fraternity and was the one who came up with the idea for this brotherhood event. Although he is not participating this year, he has participated in years past and this year he is taking it a step further and not shaving until Christmas.

How it all started

Above, Armstrong takes an electric razor to his beard in preparation for shaving cream and regular razor. Arm-

strong is a good candidate for Best Beard.

The Competition Begins

Senior Jordan Minton, left, and freshman Noel Belcher, right,

shave their faces in the bathroom of the Fiji house on Halloween

night.

Freshman Nate Blankenship smears his face in shaving cream in preparation for the shave.

Every brother was invited to come to the Fiji house on Halloween at 9 p.m. to kick off the festivities. The rules were simple: shave on October 31 and don’t shave again until December 1. The only exception to the rle was that brothers were permitted to shave the hairs on their necks for comfort reasons. Gilliam listed the awards that would be preseneted at the end of the month and documented every brother who wanted to participate by taking a picture on his phone of their cleanly shaven face. Gilliam will be announcing the winners to the competition on December 1 when the brothers get together again to shave once more.

Brothers take No Shave November to a whole new level

Nashville junior Bryan Hartzell has always been passionate about Cancer Research. This year, for No Shave November, he decided to shave his head as well as his face. Hartzell is trying to fun-draise for the Marathon he will be running in March in New Orleans with the American Can-cer Society.

Trigg County junior Dori Sheehan cuts and shaves Hartzell’s head on Oct. 31 in preparation

for the fundraiser.

Sheehan continues to rid Hartzell of all the hairs on his head. In the past, Hartzell has vo-

luteered for Relay for Life here on campus.

Their Progress Thus Far

Bowling Green fresh-man Nate Blakenship decided to shave in honor of his aunt. His aunt is a breast cancer survivor and Blanken-ship said this made him “close to the cause.”

Hartzell, left, is fundraising to help pay for his trip to New Orleans for the Marathon. His close is close to $1,300. As of Nov. 11, he has raised over $300. For Blankenship, right, he is just trying to raise as much as he can and donate it all to breast cancer research. As of Nov. 11, he has raised over $20. Both men are asking for daily sponsors for the month. Who-ever sponsors them gets a shoutout on Facebook along with the picture for the day dedicated to them.
