BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Change!

How many Lutherans does it take to change a light bulb? It takes one

Lutheran to hold the ladder, one Lutheran to swap out a new one for

the burnt one and at least two more Lutherans to talk about “how

good” the old one was.

There are times in our journey through life when things change. Some-

times the change is welcome and sometimes we wish things would stay

the same. Sometimes hoped for change comes and sometimes it does

not. Sometimes change is intentional and sometimes accidental. I am

sure that change, as described above, has taken place during the

months that I have been with you.

I invite you to share with me (it is the only way I can know) the chang-

es you have seen that you like and the ones that are not so good. Also

the changes you would like to see in the future. We need to practice

having conversations like these. Even talking about “how good” the

old way was is important as long as that moves us to the future and we

don’t get stuck in the past.

Let us also have conversation about consistency, the consistency we

find in the God we worship. This is the God who always comes down to

us with love, forgiveness and eternal life as shown to us through Jesus

Christ.

I am looking forward to having some good conversations this summer.

Your Brother in Christ,

Pastor John
