Studying duration is 242 weeks: Learning is defined for 242 weeks, 4 weeks of training internship, 10 weeks of practical training, 5 weeks of pre-diploma practice. Session and final exams to qualify to work for 37 weeks, 150 weeks of theoretical and laboratory training seminar.

The Armenian education system consists of 12- year general secondary education (primary, basic and high school), preliminary and middle level vocational education and higher education. Higher Education is regulated by the Law on Education and the Law on Higher and Post-Graduate Education of the Republic of Armenia, and is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and Science. The laws are in line with the main objectives of the Bologna Process. The Armenian higher education system comprises 26 state and 40 private higher education institutions 8 HEI branches. Higher Education is provided in institutes, universities, academies and conservatory. Higher Education studies are measured by credits, with one year of studies equivalent to 1800 hours of student work, and is defined as 60 credits. The credit system is compatible with the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The mode of studies is either full-time or part-time. The academic year, as a rule, starts on September 1st and is comprised of two semesters with 20 and 22 weeks duration, respectively.

Students with Master or a relevant degree (old degrees) can apply for Aspirantura (Doctorate). The goal of these studies is to provide students with broad and in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of a chosen field of research and abilities to create new knowledge. Nominal duration of Aspirantura is 3 years. A student who has been admitted to doctoral programme must complete a given amount of studies (180 credits), and publicly defend dissertation. In case of successful defense Candidate of Science (gitutunneri teknatsu) degree is awarded. If a student completes the required amount of studies but fails to defend a thesis, a Researcher (hetazotox) degree is awarded.

Doctor of Sciences (gitutyunneri doctor) is an advanced scientific degree which is awarded to an individual holding Candidate of Sciences degree as an acknowledgement of his scientific achievements and after successful public thesis defense.
