A Few Tips:

Yes, there is quite a bit to do here. That’s partly because I’m asking

you to learn a number of definitions and principles here that underlie

the rest of the lessons.

It would best to finish this homework before Lesson 2, but if you

can’t for some reason, still go on to Lesson 2, and please don’t stress

over it. Do a little bit each day, and have fun discovering more about

yourself and how your beliefs shape your life. Ask yourself “How

can I have fun discovering more about myself as I play with this

information?”

After we get these first two lessons out of the way, homework for the

other lessons will be much shorter, I promise.

I suggest doing question number one (which has multiple items

within it) on the first day, then take the next five or ten days to do

the remaining 5 questions. Do one question per day or one every

two days. If you spend just 15 minutes each day, you should have

no trouble completing the homework before the next lesson. For

greatest learning, please don’t work on the homework for more than

30 minutes without taking a break.

Treat this as an interesting process of discovering more about your

beliefs and how they shape your results in life. There are no wrong

answers, and there is no pressure to do this a certain way. Anything

you discover makes this worthwhile.

If the answers to certain questions don’t come to you right away, let

that be okay. Ponder them as you go through your day and let the

answers come. Above all, stay relaxed about this and focus on what

you want. I’ve left a number of spaces in each question for you to

write your answers. This doesn’t mean you have to fill each space,

or deal with as many beliefs as there are spaces. Do as many as you

want. The more beliefs you work with, however, the more you will

learn.

Those who faithfully do all the homework report incredibly positive

results. You do want incredibly positive results, don’t you?

Exercises:

1. Listen to the audio lesson a second time or read the Lesson Notes as a

review. To make sure you understand the terms and concepts I use, as

you encounter each of these terms, I want you to jot down the definition,

a short description of each term, or fill in the blank:

• Internal Map of Reality:

• The “safety” part of you:

• The two reasons why, for some people, “nothing works”:

• “For any outcome, whether internal or external, there’s a certain

way of and

that will get it for you. You have to find it and be

enough to adopt it.”

• The filters in your Internal Map of Reality include:

• These filters do three things: 1) ,

2) , and

3) . (Paragraph 36)

2. Define each of the three things filters do:

1.

2.

3.

3. Define internal representations:

6. Why are internal states, behaviors, and internal representations called

“a cybernetic loop”?

7. Fill in the blanks.

When you make internal representations about something you

you create the to act.

emotional experiences create a generalization, that the world is

a place, or at least a potentially

dangerous place, and that they must that danger.

To do so, they have to on it. Since focusing

on anything gives your mind an to

past traumas pulls your attention to ,

creating more of it.

Additional Practice:

Over the next two weeks, prior to beginning Lesson 2, continue to

add answers to each of these lists. Carry a few 3 x 5 note cards with

you and jot down any answers that pop into your mind as you go

about your day. The purpose is to become consciously aware of what

you believe in these important areas.

34. Look at each of these important areas of your life, and decide what

beliefs are generating the results you’re getting in each area.
