GOWRIE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
The Lifeline Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
We had a wonderful Advent and Christmas. Experiencing the manger through Mary gave it a
whole new dimension. Baptizing Amanda and Damon DeVries’ son (Christian) at our Christmas
Eve service made it all the more special. Journeying with Mary and Joseph (Katie and AJ
Dorsey) to Bethlehem as we began our service helped us get our thoughts and hearts in the
context needed. The communion and candlelight sent us into the night ready for the holiness
of the celebration!!
Some of you were unable to join us for our special moments. You have been in our thoughts
and prayers. Hopefully you were able to find a way to bring home the holy! Did you attend
any good concerts? The school concerts were amazing. I was partial to the high school concert
– loving how it all began. Our own Tiffany Blunk was part of a “choir of drums” that shared a
new variation of “Little Drummer Boy.” Wow!! As a grandma I have to say that our grandson’s
program blew our minds and we were so proud!! Plus, our church caroling party on the hay
rack was probably one of the high points!! Oh yeah, it was good. Over and over, God gave us blessing after blessing!!!
Reminiscing is good for us so that we can appreciate the presence of God in our good times and the reminder that His
presence is with us through our struggles. As we begin this New Year we know that our spiritual condition is really up to
us. What I/we choose to do with this day or how to respond to each moment is truly a matter of choice. What do you
choose? How will you handle the moments as they come?
Perhaps you are one who makes resolutions. How long do you stick with it? What do they do for you? What do resolu-
tions say about our faith ? Can our Advent preparation fill us with a Christmas reality lived out through the coming year?
One of our favorite scriptures at our house is “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Josh. 24:15) But having
the strength to serve the Lord requires faith and fortitude. Having strength to face the bad along with the good, requires
remembering who and what gives you strength. For years I have leaned on Psalm 121 and Matthew 6:25-34. People let
us down. God is our strength and even takes care of all our needs. We have no reason to worry about anything; God al-
ways takes care of us!!!
Begin 2015 confident in who you are – a child of God. You matter. You have value. You are amazing!! Believe it!
Have an amazing New Year! Hope to see you soon as you join us for wonderful worship!!! Come to Sunday School, Mon-
day study, Tuesday men’s group, whatever you can do. Then trust and believe, and remember you are never alone. We
have a God who loves us more than anything and a faith family who is there for us. Happy New Year!! Happy Valentine’s
Day!! Happy life!
Loving walking with you,
STONE SOUP This, Sunday, January 25th. Bring a baggie of cleaned up vegetables, noodles,
meat, or a can of broth. We’ll put it together during worship and enjoy

IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER Remember, if the weather causes you to wonder whether there is church or not, we will use our 4-Wheel
drive policy:
~ Stay home if the sidewalks or roads worry you.
~ We seldom (if ever) cancel church, but we don’t want anyone to fall or get stuck.
~ Sunday school will be cancelled but we’ll have worship together for those who can get here with their all
terrain vehicles.
~ Use our valet parking service (park under the canopy & let an usher park your car) if the sidewalks are icy
but the roads are okay.

If you have a prayer request, please call or email the
church office. If you are requesng for someone other

Thank you to everyone who attended worship December 21. We had so much
fun bringing the message with the Chancel Choir and Glory Bells. We find we
always have room for more people who like to sing, so feel free to come and find
out why we keep ringing and singing!! Bells meet Wednesday evenings at 5:30
and Choir practices are also Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.
So Much to Be Thankful For…. .

Imagine No Malaria is the United Methodist church-wide effort to
overcome malaria in Africa and eliminate deaths caused by this pre-
ventable disease—a goal world leaders hope to accomplish by 2015.
Malaria is preventable, but infects nearly 500 million people each
year and kills more than one million of those who become infected. Ninety percent of deaths caused by malaria occur
in Africa where the disease is a leading killer of children. Every 60 seconds a child dies from malaria. Children who are
able to survive the disease are faced with physical and mental impairments, such as poor growth and development.
Moreover, every day 25 million pregnant African women risk severe illness and harm to their unborn children from a
malaria infecLon. Malaria contributes to low birth weight among newborn infants, one of the leading risk factors for
infant mortality.
Our efforts may have started with sending nets, but they do not stop there. In addiLon to prevenLng malaria with bed
nets, eliminaLng deaths caused by this disease will require educaLng communiLes and health care workers, develop-
ing health care infrastructure and making advancements in health care communicaLons. Imagine No Malaria will cre-
ate a stronger and more broad-based community health infrastructure to help The United Methodist Church in the
fight against diseases of poverty. to the organizaLon’s website, the foundaLon has commiIed more than $6 billion in
global health grants.
What can you do?? TEN DOLLARS! That is all, if everyone that gets this message gives a simple $10 donaNon per
family member we would raise over $4000, that would buy 400 nets! 400 NETS! Please visit the display in the lobby
beginning in February, consider, pray about a donaNon.
Imagine No Malaria; $10 is all….

even the most experienced!
The youth also had fun assisLng with the children’s Sunday School program. Serving the meal and doing
