Healy Kentucky Law Enforcement Memo- rial Foundation Scholar- ships. Emily, a student at Northern Kentucky University, and Mary, a student at the University of Kentucky were awarded $2,000 scholarships. They are the surviving daugh- ters of Alexandria Police Department Officer James Sticklen, who died in the line of duty on March 4, 2011. Sticklen will be hon- ored at the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on May 22 at the Department of Criminal Justice Training. Founded in 1999, The Kentucky Law Enforce- ment Memorial Founda- tion’s original purpose was to build a memorial that would honor all Kentucky officers who have been killed in the line of duty. Once the monument was completed in 2000, the organization expanded its efforts to include a finan- cial endowment program, which helps Kentucky peace officers and their families with educational, medical and emergency relief. In 2004, the founda- tion created this scholar- ship program to help law enforcement officers, public safety dispatchers and their families pay for college. It is restricted to law enforcement officers and public safety dispatch personnel (current, retired or disabled) and their sur- vivors or dependents. The scholarships may be used at any accredited college or university, including two-year and community colleges and may also be used for attendance at recognized or certified vo- cational or trade schools. Students do not have to major in law enforcement or criminal justice to be eligible for the scholar- ship. “The goal of the Ken- tucky Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation has always been to honor and help the officers of this state,” said KLEMF Ex- ecutive Director Horace Johnson. “I cannot think of a better way to honor the fallen heroes of the past and our officers of today than to help educate their survivors, their comrades and their dependents for a better future.” Gerald F. Healy was a founding member of the KLEMF organization and served on the board of di- rectors until his death in January 2009. The owner of 14 Mc- Donald’s franchises in central Kentucky, Healy embraced the philosophy of giving back to the com- munity and was instru- mental in starting the KL- EMF college scholarship program. Two Dover natives receive Healy scholarships A luncheon hosted by Juanita Bickers, Martha Moford and Thelma Beck- ett was held on April 4, 2012 for the Minerva High School Reunion planning committee.
