The Kitty Kourier Newsletter

You’ve heard the superstitions about black cats being unlucky, right? With Halloween

coming up, we wanted to remind everyone of how silly those superstitions are and how

awesome black cats can be. Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t judge cats by the black

color of their fur and why you SHOULD consider adopting one!

Black cats are lucky! They were worshiped in ancient Egypt, and owning black cats

was thought to bring good luck. People of Scotland consider the black cat a sign of

prosperity, and in England and Japan, black cats crossing your path will make you smile

and bring good luck your way. In China, the older, uglier and blacker a cat is the luckier it is

for those who have it.

Lots of famous cats are black. Black cats have been featured in artwork,

popular shows and movies, including Felix the Cat, Star Trek, Looney

Tunes, Sailor Moon, Disney, Coraline, and many more!

Love knows no color! Your cat doesn’t care what color your hair is!

Black cats are just as loving and playful as any other cat.

Black is beautiful! There's the deep, auburn shaded black, the blue black, the black with tiny white

highlights here and there, the sleek black, the fluffy black, the black with bunny-soft fur, the black

with yellow eyes, the black with green eyes, the black with grey eyes...well, you get the picture.

Black cats are distantly related to the black panther. Their regal breeding is very apparent: majestic, mysterious,

incredibly loving and loyal, and intelligent.

Black cats go with everything—your outfits and home décor.

Black cats are the least likely to get adopted and are in need of loving homes! Why not open

your heart and home to one of PAN’s black beauties?

Halloween Safety Tips For Your Cat Source: petMD online

1. Especially for black cats, Halloween is a dangerous time. However, any cat is at risk

outdoors after dark on Halloween. Make sure your cat is confined indoors and away

from any entryways when Trick-or-Treaters pay you a visit!

2. Keep candy and wrappers away and out of reach. Many Halloween treats, like

chocolate, are toxic to both cats and dogs. Candy wrappers can become toys that turn

into intestinal blockages for playful cats.

3. Be mindful of Halloween decorations (wires, electric cords)

and lit candles (in a Jack-o-Lantern.) Curious cats might try

to play with these!

4. Do not force your cat to wear a Halloween costume. Many

cats find wearing clothing to be stressful.

The Day Martha Went Missing! OH NOO!!!! My foster sister Peanut and I have been regular visitors once again to my mom's campground. Nearly every

weekend we all pile into the family vehicle and take a drive to a beautiful nature spot. Mom always puts out

fresh nectar for the hummingbirds that visit in front of our kitty condo. She also throws around Critter

Crunch for the other birds and chipmunks. We love laying in our bunks watching all the antics that are

happening right before our eyes. It's sooo exciting!

One afternoon my mom was doing a little cleaning after returning from the store. I know she is always care-

ful about making sure we are away from the door before opening it. Well, I played a trick on her. She was

sitting and reading when she realized that I was not coming to join her for our afternoon snuggle. She called

and called, and shook the goody bag so that I would hear it and come out. Then she got really nervous. Mom

couldn't find me ANYWHERE inside our small camper. She was tearing apart every nook and cranny to find

me. She began to panic, thinking that I might be outside in the woods, all alone and scared. Enlisting some of

the area campers, everyone started looking and calling for me. Flashlights were peeking into any dark area

that a black cat might be hiding in a

bright beautiful afternoon. No one could

find me. Mom even had a few police

officers that were camping across the

way come and tear apart the camper

inch by inch. They were experts, after

all. They were so thorough that they

even looked inside the microwave and

refrigerator! They said I was definitely

NOT inside.

Mom gave up the search and thanked

everyone for their efforts. She asked

them to keep an eye out for me and

they all said they would.

It was then about six hours since Mom

noticed I was missing. I know she was

very distraught; she was crying softly

because she was so worried about me.

Then Mom had an idea while staring at the walls …. what if ? She took out a screwdriver and started taking

apart the walls inside the camper! Wow – I have no idea what made her think of doing that. After the third

panel was removed, THERE I WAS! I am so sneaky! I was hiding in the dark underside of the refrigerator, all

wound up in the wires. I never made a sound the whole time I was hiding. Even those police officers couldn't

find me – HA!!!! Were they ever surprised to hear that I was there all along.

Hooray - I was found! I promised my Mom I wouldn't do that again – LOL – we'll see – toes crossed!

Now I’m ready for Autumn and enjoying the change in seasons. Happy Fall!
