let me invite you to the 75th First of all,

annual Conference in New York City which will be held July 27-30, 2017. This Conference is especially meaningful to us in that we will be celebrating the ICP,Inc’s 75th anniversary since its foundation in New York 75 years ago. 2017 Local Arrangement Committee members and Conference Coordinator President- Elect Jean Chin are working enthusiastically to make the Anniversary Celebration and 75th annual Conference memorable.

I urge you not to miss the opportunity to attend informative sessions, network, and get together with long-time and new colleague-friends.

2017 Scientific Program In addition to elaborate academic programs, including the annual Human Rights Summit, a series on leadership, a Symposium featuring eleven former presidents, there will be a Town Hall Meeting led by Drs. Merry Bullock, Chair, Long Range Conference Committee, and Andrew Simon, Membership Committee. Presidential Priorities and Goals 2017

During my term, I have emphasized the need for more frequent communication among officers – the Executive Committee, all elected board members – Directors and Executive Officers. Non-voting Council Board members included Appointed coordinators, chairs of standing committees, ad hoc committees and contracted service providers --- editor, webmanager and secretary general.

PRESIDENT ELECT Jean Lau Chin, EdD, ABPP Adelphi University, NY

In addition, I encouraged and mentored younger scholars towards their goals by steering them to self-realization as they were enabled by scholarships to explore and increase their knowledge in our field.

Recognizing ICP’s Contributions to Development of Global Psychology and Ethics

Another project I initiated through Interim Board Meeting conversations is preparation of an anniversary book celebrating the history and vision of the International Council and recording of select proceedings from the 2017-2018 annual conferences that kicked-off and wraped-up this jubilee year. Dr. Chin and I are collaborating as Honorary Co-Editors, while academic editing, publication and sale of the 75th Anniversary Book is headed by Drs. Harold Takooshian, Uwe Gielen, Florence Denmark and Ann Marie O’Roark. Others working to develop contents include Drs. Rosewith Roth and Anna Laura Comunian. The book will make it possible for us to get to know more about our own accomplishments and the 75th anniversary book will facilitate another of the goals announced at the beginning of my term as President: to widely disseminate information about contributions of the Council, now legally titled the International Council of Psychologists, ,Inc. in the development of worldwide scientific psychology, its ethical practice and the importance of integration of allied disciplinary Professionals.

As we join together in NYC, we remember that ICP,Inc. was not built in a day and we rejoice that it is still evolving! I greatly appreciate our predecessors, our hard-working, collaborative contemporaries and welcome our successors who will continue to add to strong foundations, firm psychological principles & values to maintain the unique and innovative characteristics of ICP, Inc.

Appreciations I would like to thank current Officers & Directors, Parliamentarians, Appointed Non-Voting Board Representatives, and ICP,Inc. Members who supported me during my Presidency and their contributions to realizing the goals for this year. The year was highlighted by a trip to the United States. In New York City I met with conference planners and long time colleagues arranging celebrations for July 27-30, 2017 and publication of an Anniversary Book. I also made an official visit to St. Augustine to meet with and express personal appreciations to Editor & Parliamentarian Dr. O’Roark and Interim Sec Gen. Quatrano ( July2015-July2017. I cannot express enough words of appreciation to Ms Nancy Quatrano, who made possible the achievement of the INTERIM COUNCIL BOARD telephone meetings. She dedicated considerable portions of her work-life to Council assignments for more than five years, during a multi-year transition after deaths of Treasurer Gamache and Membership Chair Rose. I give an extra special Thank You to Nancy Quatrano.

It has been my honor to serve as President of the International Council of Psychologists, 2016-2017, the 75th ANNIVERSARY YEAR.

The 75th Annual ICP Conference 2017 in New York City, the Big Apple, will be memorable with a conference theme of Psychology’s

Contribution to People, the Planet,

and the World. New York is home to the United Nations as well as being one of the most cosmopolitan centers in the world. The conference will precede the annual American Psychological Association Convention in Washington, DC, only a few hours away by train. We hope ICP members and friends will join us. Register at: www.ICPWEB.org The conference will be rejuvenating as we launch our Membership Campaign coordinated by Sandra Neil and Andrew Simon. ICP is unique as an international organization of psychologists with local roots through our Area Chairs. Connect with one and join us at a conference that convenes and promotes creative and innovative ways of international collaboration through posters, symposia, workshops and papers. We are featuring three forums: Human Rights organized by Sandra Neil on social action; Global and Diverse Leadership on collaborative research organized by Jean Lau Chin, President-Elect; and a Town Hall meeting celebrating ICP Present and Future Directions organized by Merry Bullock and Andrew Simon. Janel Gauthier, President of the International Association of Applied Psychology and our Awardee last year will be a keynote speaker. Also featured will be 2 dinners; one will be a 10 course Chinese banquet in NYC Chinatown nearby. Lodging options and suggestions for tours and sightseeing are in Administrative Section of the International Psychologist 57.2

Good news!

Our financial picture continues to be stable. As of May 15, 2017 our operations account balance is currently $11,867.72. Our convention account currently is $13,027.42; according to our convention budget we should comfortably cover convention costs and make a profit! Hope to see everyone in July at our convention in New York City; it promises to be an excellent convention. Lastly our Savings and Fukuhara Award account is significant at $65,172.57. As mentioned in earlier reports, a financial committee to assist in making financial decisions for Council needs to be re-established. I’m still open to nominations for this committee; if you or know of someone that you think would be a strong member for this committee, please let me know Additionally, I want to encourage all members to renew your membership, if you haven’t already done so. Call for Dues has been posted and I look forward to Council continuing to develop and strengthen as an organization to advance psychology and application of its scientific findings throughout the world. Respectfully submitted, Nancy M. Sidun BOARD SECRETARY Justina E. Aire, PhD

Annual Convention and Board Meeting was plentiful in the first quarter, the result is a dedicated conference website and already the registrations and some new memberships are steadily coming in. The registration report has been developed and is working to enable smooth registration at conference time. Since January, I have monitored two international conference calls for President Fukuhara and the Board which has enabled a great deal of ICP business to be conducted not only for the present year, but for the future, as well. Presently, I am preparing the information that the newly elected Temporary Secretary-General, Arthur Roh, will need to take over this position in July. His CV is very strong and he’s been great to speak and email with and I have every confidence that he’s a great candidate for this position. It is helpful that he and President-elect Jean Chin are both in New York City. Treasurer Nancy Sidun and I continue to work together, for the board’s consideration, on the present and future financial needs of the organization. Dues continue to come in, though not as many renewals as desired, so if you haven’t paid your 2017 dues, won’t you please do so today? It is exciting to report to Membership Chair Dr. Andrew Simon that we have new members every month. I continue to support President Machiko Fukuhara as needed, and some assigned chairpersons as well. Respectfully submitted,Nancy Quatrano

GENERATIONS: THE GOOD, THE BAD

AND The Necessary

St Augustine, FL.USA. May 2017. Preparing for the 75th ICP inc annual meetings and scientific program offers opportunities and unexpected pauses. The rush of enthusiasm about all the possible ways to celebrate and commemorate is punctuated by flashbacks about leaders and friends who are no longer with us or who no longer travel. Of the 21 former presidents of the Council, eleven have accepted the invitation to join in a symposium in New York. I called the Symposium “Footprints and Visions” Each president I have known has indeed imprinted the group with both footprints and their ideas. The governance documents reflect their footprints where they stood strong for certain points in the mission to promote scientific psychology and promote human well being across the nations and cultures. The conference themes reveal a little about the priorities of those who enabled the Council to meet annually for 75 years. The visions each brought to the lifestream reflected the concerns of that zeitgeist era, but most prevalent is an ongoing respect for the discipline and well being of the human species, and a desire to uphold professional standards and ethical principles by extending the body of knowledge through methodical study. Yes, leaders are composed of good and bad – plus and minus characteristics just like computer softwares –each combination unlike any other, but each with that necessary component: a determination to strive to move forward adding to the accumulating wisdom and applying it to the enrichment of the people of the earth.

As I look across ICP colleague-generations I have known and worked with, I am aware that this group more than any has influenced my understanding of psychology, of other cultures and of the good that can come from even those who appeared to be self-aggrandizing, or to be lacking in formal academics, or to have only narrow interests. And, of course, I learned even the most humble, highest IQs, or generous caring about others can at times cause heavy problems and losses for a group. The value for working together across all borders and barriers seems to sustain the life of the Council, which more than doubles the 35year life expectancy for an organization. In the US social culture, fads and fashions mutate and

morph ever more rapidly as was predicted in Fisk’s research and the bestseller Future Shock. Increasing time novelty and speed in life was forseen as the boilermaker of increasing levels of stress. During my research and leadership teaching years, I learned from my students again and again: its the deep roots in history that will tap into nourishing lessons-learned below surface ripples and swirls, and offer today’s and future generations the power of resilience and the ability to regenerate. These two pictures illustrate my personal and professional “generations.”

Here are my three Personal generations celebrating grandson Joshua’ s birthday. Josh, me and my son Fred . The calligraphy above is a tribute to former ICP presidents, and, therefore. honors my professional “generations.” The calligraphy was prepared by a former Board Member from Taiwan, Cheng Chien.

I look forward to seeing many of you in New York in July. This will be a grand jubilee celebration for ICP, Inc. and those who give it life. Warm Regards, Ann Marie O’Roark
