Some Things You Might Not Know About God Allen Webster

Welcome Guest We are so glad you’ve come

for worship today! Our prayer is you will be

blessed by your time with us. Please feel free to ask us

any questions you may have concerning our worship.

Knowing God is like drinking the ocean or counting its sands or walking its waves.

We know only what He has revealed (Deuteronomy 29:29), and even that can tax our faculties.

How well do you know God? Could you answer these simple questions correctly?

    Does God Ever Hurt?

“And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart” (Genesis 6:6) While on earth, Jesus’ tears reveal the pain in His heart. Jesus wept

    • For His friends (John 11:35).

    • For His enemies (Luke 19:41).

    • For Himself (Hebrews 5:7).

    Does God Ever Get Tired?

“You have wearied the Lord with your words; Yet you say, ‘In what way have we wea-ried Him?’ In that you say, ‘Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and He delights in them,’ Or, ‘Where is the God of jus-tice?” (Malachi 2:17)

    Does God Ever Get Mad?

God gets angry with man’s sin (Numbers 32:10-15), error (2 Samuel 6:7), disobedience (Joshua 7:1-12), and idolatry (Judges 2:11-14). His wrath is described as fierce (Psalm 78:49-50), destructive (Psalm 90:7), and powerful (Psalm 90:11)

However, God has always been slow to anger (Nehemiah 9:17) and

  • THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW...

and “does not retain His anger forever” (Micha 7:18). In fact, it “is but for a moment” (Psalm 30:5). But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and did not destry them. Yes, many a time He turned His anger away, and did not stir up all His wrath” (Psalm 78:38).

To appease God’s anger, one must pray (Numbers 11:1-2; Deuteronomy 9:19-20), act righteously (Numbers 25:3-12; cf. Joshua 7:1 10-26), and obey (Deuteronomy 13:16-18).

    Does God Ever Laugh?

“He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision” (Psalm 2:4).”The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth. The Lord laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming” (Psalm 37:12-13). “You, O Lord, shall laugh at them; You shall have all the nations in derision: (Psalm 59:8). “Because you disdained all my counsel, and would have none of my rebuke, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes” (Proverbs 1:25-26). As you can see “It is a sad day when God laughs.”

On the other hand, God is not a tyrant who enjoys punishing people. He rejoices over obedience (1 Samuel 15:22). This is seen in Christ’s rejoicing while on earth and in His teaching. In the parable of the lost sheep, for instance, when the shepherd found his wayward lamb, he carried it home on his shoulders, rejoicing. He called together his friends and said, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!” (Luke 15:5-6).

    Does God Ever Get Jealous?

“You shall have no other gods before Me….you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God” (Exodus 20:3-5). “For you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God” (Exodus 34:14 Continued in next weeks bulletin.

  • Dogs

By carson van arsdall June 26, 2019

It was during the past week on one channel was a 2-year-old girl singing softly to an old dog, his head was cuddled in her lap, fast asleep.

Did Jesus have a dog? I know that you dog lovers read-ing this want to see the answer "YES!" God has created all things for us and when He finished, He saw they were good(Genesis 1:24,25).

As early as I can recall from those very first Sunday school classes, I never saw class materials of Jesus hold-ing a dog or even having one at his feet; it was always the little lamb so helpless and cute.

The Zondervan Expanded Concordance gives 37 scrip-tures referring to the place of dogs in the Bible.

Dogs were first associated with the Egyptians. Here dogs were used in temple service to the gods of Egypt (Exodus 11:7). Dogs were not allowed in the House of the Lord (Deut. 23:18). There was nothing lower that a dog. This beast was given over to a cleanup of anything thrown over the city wall. They were associated with everything unclean.

Dogs are drawn by the urge to be with a pack and are hunters often after the slow, old and weak. When I was about seven years old, a favorite pet had to be put away. He had strayed and was seen with others killing the neighbor's goats. I did not understand. I asked why we just didn't tie the dog to his doghouse for a few days. Dad said that was not the cure. (Later in life I learned that dogs have many teeth and strong jaws to rip and tear.)

Paul wrote in Philippians 3:2 - "Watch out for those wicked men, dangerous dogs, I call them, who say you

must be circumcised to be saved."

No one really knows when man domesticated wild dogs to be used as guards for the home or when it happened that someone saw that they could be great compan-ions. We have all seen the movies; Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Old Yeller, and Benji.

"As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man's table, the dogs came and licked his open sores. Finally, Lazarus died and was carried by the angels to be with Abraham in the place of the righteous dead. The rich man died and was buried." (Luke 16:21,22)

This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes them all. Anyone who is among the living has hope-even a live dog is better off that a dead lion! For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further re-ward, and even the memory of them is forgotten. (Ecclesiastes 9:4,5)

You can't buy loyalty, they say I bought it though, the other day; You can't buy friendship, tried and true, Well just the same, I bought that too. I made my bid, and on the spot Bought love and faith and a whole job lot Of happiness, so all in all The purchase price was pretty small. I bought a single trusting heart, That gave devotion from the start. If you think these things are not for sale, Buy a brown-eyed puppy with a stump for a tail. (from Poems about Dogs)
