Why use a ‘Case Study’.• Limits the extent of the question by constructing and framing

the problem.

• Forming the case requires viewing the story from several perspectives eg. nurses/nutritionists.

• Cases take on a ‘life of their own’ when discussed with the Interdisciplinary Group.

• Case Presentation - Mr Kajewski has been admitted to hospital after falling in his home and injuring his hip. He is 79 years old and his wife of 58 years died 6 weeks ago. He has 2 adult children with families who live nearby. In recent weeks he has not felt like eating very much and is not skilled in cooking. He weighs 70 k and is 1.86m with a BMI 20.3. Six months ago his BMI was 23.2 (weight 80k). After being operated on and cared for in the ward for six days, Mr Kajewski will be transferred to the rehabilitation unit.
