Welcome Address
The 9th International Conference on Electroanalysis is organized under auspices of the European Society for ElectroAnalytical Chemistry, the Society for Electroanalytical Chemistry, the University of Mining and Metallurgy and supported by the Committee of Analytical Chemistry of Polish Academy of Sciences and the Kościuszko Foundation. The conference will be held from 9 – 13 June 2002 in Cracow.The previous conferences of this series were held in Dublin (1986), Turku (1988), Gijon (1990), Noordwijkerhout (1992), Venice (1994), Durham (1996), Coimbra (1998) and Bonn (2000).Poland will host this international conference for the first time.

Conference Venue
Cracow is a unique city of more than a thousand years history, a former capital of Poland, and the second largest, after Warsaw, academic centre.Cracow consists of an inner town and several suburbs. The city contains a large number of historic buildings. The most notable is the Royal Castle on the Wawel Hill. Other notable buildings are the Church of Saint Mary, Gothic edifice dating from 1223, Collegium Maius, the oldest building of Jagiellonian University (1364), ancient city walls and many others. Cracow’s old centre was included by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee on the list of the world most precious cultural monuments, covers an area of 72 hectares and has 55 pieces of architecture of the highest class.Our town has a unique atmosphere as a significant scientific and artistic centre.
Place of the Conference The Conference site has been changed from Sofitel Hotel to the University of Mining and Metallurgy Conference Center: Al. Mickiewicza 30, Building B-2.
Getting to the Conference and Local Transport
How to get to Cracow The International Balice Airport provides direct connections to a choice of major European airports (including Paris, London, Zurich, Frankfurt, Vienna, Copenhagen, Tel Aviv, New York, and Chicago.) Cracow lies at the crossroads of prin-cipal railway routes forming a convenient and reliable network of domestic train connections and several international ones, including daily services to Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Dresden, and Kiev.) Car access is not difficult either, yet car access, parking, and traffic in the centre are subject to special limitations and regulations. The best solution is resorting to guarded car parks and using public transport to move around the city. Cracow features a well-developed bus and tram network.

Local Transport
Tickets must be punched on boarding the bus or tram. They are available in kiosks and Municipal Transport Company stands. (MPK; corner of Basztowa and Westerplatte Streets, and corner of Szewska and Podwale Streets.) Available from drivers are only single trip tickets, offered for a surcharge.

Oral presentations
The Conference Centre is equipped with overhead projectors, slide projectors and video beamer. The video beamer can be connected to the laptop computers.
Posters Presentation
Two poster sessions will be organised : first on Monday 10.06.2002 16:40 - 18:00 (posters numbered P1- P80) and the second on Thursday 13.06.2002, 13:30 - 15:00 (the posters with numbers higher than 80). Poster boards have dimensions: 1.2 m height and 0.85 m width.
Proceedings
The International Scientific Committee will select oral and poster presentations for the publication in the special issue of Electroanalysis. Corresponding authors will be approached by the International Scientific Committee to prepare their manuscript until 1 July 2002.
Social activities
Sunday 9.06.2002 Get-together party
Get-together party will commence the Conference at 7.00 p.m. in the Main Building (A-0) of the University of Mining and Metallurgy, Al. Mickiewicza 30
Tuesday 11.06.2002 Wawel Royal Castle and Old Town sightseeing
All participants and accompanying persons are invited to a guided tour of Wawel Hill, which is also called the Polish Acropo-lis. At the Wawel Hill you will visit the Wawel Cathedral. The Cathedral used to be the place where the coronation of Polish kings was held. Then you will tour Kanonicza and Grodzka Streets that lead you to the Market Square. At the Market Square you can also see several monuments like the Renessaince Cloth Hall, the Town Hall and the beautiful Mariacki Church. Then you will visit Kazimierz - the Jewish part of the City.

Wednesday 12.06.2002 Wieliczka Salt Mine sightseeingAll participants and accompanying persons are invited to a guided tour of the Wieliczka Salt Mine. The Salt Mine situated in the picturesque town of Wieliczka is an object of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee unique in the world range. The mine counts near 1000 years and contains many unique works of miner’s art of past time. In the museum part the rout leads through three working floors and goes down to a depth of 135 meters.
Wednesday 12.06.2002 Banquet at Wieliczka Salt MineBanquet at Wieliczka Salt Mine will be held in a chamber about 140 meters under ground level.
Scientific programme The meeting will address all aspects of modern electroanalysis. New developments in the methodology and the theory of poten-tiometry, voltammetry, amperometry, coulommetry and conduc-tometry, as well as innovative applications in environmental, clinical, pharmaceutical and industrial analysis will be covered. Papers reporting on the combination of electroanalytical detec-tion with other analytical methods are also welcome.The organizers have accepted about 70 oral and 160 poster presentations.
