Kentucky 4-H Announces Honor Recipients
4-H encourages young people to set and achieve their goals. To that end, the Kentucky 4-H Achievement
Program was created to reward ambitious and accomplished young people throughout the state. In the high-
ly competitive 4-H Achievement Program, young people receive recognition and prizes for their accom-
plishments in 4-H and their community. 4-H’ers can start accumulating points as soon as they start 4-H and
begin earning recognition in the sixth grade. The following are the honors recipients from Carlisle County
for the 2015 program year.
Sarah Elizabeth Drysdale received the gold honor. She is
currently the youth chair of the Kentucky 4-H Fashion
Leadership Board, president of the Carlisle County Teen
Council, and president of the Purchase Area Teen Coun-
cil. She is a youth member of the Carlisle County 4-H
Council. Sarah has won numerous awards in 4-H on the
county, district, and state levels in a number of project
areas, including the Conrad Feltner Teen Leadership
Award.
4-H’ers at least in the 10th grade, and who have reached
Level V can apply for the gold award. Each district can submit 10 applicants for the gold award. Of the 70
statewide applicants, 30 are selected. The competitive program consists of an application and a panel inter-
view portion. Gold Competitive Achievement winners receive a full scholarship to the Teen Conference on
the University of Kentucky Campus June 13 – 17, 2016 and an $800 scholarship towards attending Nation-
al 4-H Congress Conference.
Aaron Ellegood received the silver honor. He is currently a Certified Teen
Shooting Sports Coach in archery, rifle, and black powder. He is also a
Kentucky 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador. Aaron is the president of the
Carlisle County Shooting Sports Club, and has been involved in the shoot-
ing sports program for several years. Aaron is also a member of the Car-
lisle County Teen Council.
4-H’ers at least in the 9th grade, and who have reached Level IV can apply
for the silver award. Each district can submit 15 applicants for the silver
award. Of the 105 statewide applicants, 60 are selected. The competitive
program consists of an application. Silver Competitive Achievement win-
ners receive a 66.6% scholarship to the Teen Conference on the University
of Kentucky Campus June 13 – 17, 2016.

Purchase Area Teen Council
Carlisle County Teen Council
Maggie’s Jungle Golf
The Purchase Area Teen Council meets the second Monday of the odd-numbered months in Mayfield. Sarah Elizabeth Drysdale and Clifton Turner serve as our delegates and as the presi-dent and vice president of the Purchase Area Teen Council, respectively. On March 14th, the
council attended a meeting at Vertical Jump. We had a large delegation sign up to attend from Carlisle County.
The Carlisle County Teen Council met on February 22nd. Teens played teambuilding and communication games, as well as voted on a social event and service project for the spring. The Teen Council will meet again on April 14th at the Carlisle County Extension Office at 6:00 PM and on
club days at CCHS.
The teen council has voted to have a spring social event at Maggie’s Jungle Golf on May 14th, then a meeting at Belew’s following. More information to come! Please call the office to sign up if you are inter-
ested. All attendees must have completed participant forms on file at the office.
Volunteering with 4-H Teens can volunteer with 4-H, too! Clubs, Clover College, and other 4-H programs and events are in need
of helpers to assist with mentoring youth and providing activities. To volunteer with 4-H, teens must com-plete an application, interview, and reference check. Once they are approved, teen volunteers can do great
things to help the 4-H program while working toward their 4-H achievement levels!
Teen Conference Teen Conference will be held this year June 13th-16th. 4-H members who have completed 8th grade
through 12th grade are eligible to attend. Teen Conference is held on the campus of the University of Ken-tucky. Participants take tracks, participate in sessions, stay in the dorms, experience college life, elect the
new state officers, listen to the Performing Arts Troupe, and watch the State Fashion Revue. Call the office for more information and to receive a registration packet! Registration for the week is $250 and is due
May 8th to the Carlisle Co. Extension Office.
Farm vehicle license plate renewal is just around the cor-ner. As you purchase or renew your tags this year, please con-sider making the $10 donation on each licensed vehicle to sup-port 4-H and help make the best young people better.
Since 2012, this voluntary donation has allowed Kentucky farmers to give back to their community to support agriculture education and awareness, youth leadership development and locally grown products. Funds raised from the donations are equally split between 4-H, FFA and Kentucky Proud. 4-H’s share at the end of the fiscal year in June 2015 was $180,119.05.
The funds 4-H receives through the Ag Tag donation are split equally between the Kentucky 4-H Foundation and the county from which the donation originated. Your local 4-H council uses the money to fund programs and activities for young people in your community. The foundation uses the other half to fund statewide 4-H programs. Regardless of whether the programs are local or statewide, they help Ken-tucky’s young people develop essential life skills they’ll need to become the leaders of tomorrow.
In 2015, Kentucky farmers in 80 counties increased their donations, with 18 of those counties reporting an increase of $1,000 or more. In addition, 23 counties had a 50 percent or higher increase in donation rate to tags sold and renewed over the previous fiscal year.
For more information about the program or how 4-H is positively impacting youth in your community, please contact the Carlisle County Cooperative Extension Service.
Educational programs of the Cooperative Extension Ser-vice serve all people regardless of race, color, sex, religion, disability or national origin.
