The Easter Offering is being received this Sunday, March 24. The Easter offering supports the general ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Donations directly sustain mission outreach ministries that faithfully serve individuals, local congregations, communities across the country and the world. Attached is more information about the Easter Offering. Easter offering envelopes are at the Information Center.

“建筑物这么新，你

都能闻到新油漆味！”这些令人激动的话是刚果人民共和国(DRC)的

一个人到人的历程的参与者分享的。这个组有

特权去介绍波棱吉医院的产科之翼的奉献,这是

一个 1928 年刚果基督使徒会(CDCC)建立的

治愈和看护的地方，是一个与全球牧养伙伴教

会，超过 100 年的时间。波棱吉医院每年治疗

Bites of Bread from Bob Billy Strehlow has been doing a great job revitalizing our Cornerstone Sunday School class (11:00 am in Rm. 302). One of the neat things that Billy does is text members and ask them if they would like some prayers for anything. This last Thursday he did that for Doug Johnson. Before long, he received a text stating that he could use prayers because he had had a heart attack. (Just to relieve you at this point...Doug hadn’t). Billy let the church know and Allison and I were frantically calling everyone we could to find out more information. I called Noel Phillips (Chaplain at the hospital)...no information about Doug at the hospital. Allison called Lorna’s cell phone...no answer. Allison called the Johnsons’ neighbor...she didn’t know anything. Allison texted and called Billy to get as much information as possible. Finally, I thought, “Why don’t I call Doug’s cell number?” Doug answered and was doing just fine. We were all greatly relieved.

Apparently Billy’s original text was one number off and went to the wrong person. A friend of the person who received the text decided to play a prank with a response about a heart attack. Since that time, Billy has actually reached out to the person and invited him to know more about our faith community.

This story has at least a couple of lessons: 1) Make sure you are accurately texting the correct person. 2) Know that we care deeply about the people in our

congregation and want to hold your needs up to God in prayer.

We want to know when people in our congregation are in need. I always feel sad when I find out that someone has been in the hospital and I only found out afterward. We respond to prayer concerns in several different ways. Some wish to have prayers but want to keep matters private. In some cases just I or cer-tain people of the staff are informed. In other cases

the prayer concern is shared with the staff and with the Elders. In still other cases the prayer concern is shared via our email prayer chain. (If

you wish to be added to the list of those who receive these prayer concerns, call the church office.) Prayer concerns are also prayed for by our two Tuesday eve-ning prayer gatherings, our Sunday morning prayer group (for more information see the website or con-tact Allison Pfaff) and our CWF groups.

Palm Sunday, March 24– Pastor Bob Hanna John 12:12-19. As long as Jesus traveled around Israel teaching and healing, the people didn’t have to make any decisions about him. Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem forced the people to decide if Jesus was just another rabbi or the Promised One of God.

Easter Sunday, March 31– Pastor Bob Hanna Mark 16:1-8. The most frequent command of scrip-ture is “Fear Not.” Sometimes that is easier said than done. The hope of the resurrection of Jesus places fear in its proper perspective.

Celebration of Life for Victor Vaca At 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 14, we will host for the region a service in honor of our long-time friend and mission partner, Victor Vaca. Victor and his wife Violet founded the FEDICE ministry in Ecuador.

Victor visited Oregon Disciples churches several times. He and Violet graciously received several work groups from Oregon to help with FEDICE projects in Ecuador over the years.

For Children and YouthFor Children and YouthFor Children and YouthFor Children and Youth Reflection of Light from Laurie A reminder to all those 1st-5th graders who have been practicing with Christine at 9:45 am: we are singing during TWO services this Sunday, March 24. We will meet outside the Sanctuary before the 9:30 am service and go in as a group, wave our palms, have a children's moment and sing our song, then go back down to our classroom. At the 11:00 am service, ALL CHILDREN who are available will process down the aisle with palms, as the villagers did when Jesus came. Then the Kids of the King-dom, 1st-5th grades will stay seated in the service as a group for the entire service. We will share our tal-ents with the choir and bell choir later in the service.

Many members of the church family have com-mented that they don't see many children in our services or around church. This is our chance to share our gifts with our church family. It is always a blessing to have the children in worship. Thank you for blessing us with your children. If you have any questions, please call me at the church, 503-363-9273. There will be no JYF this month due to spring break and Easter. Join us next month as we travel to the Buckmaster home for lunch and then to the Oregon Garden for a day of earthen fun on April 20. Coming up in April is our Teacher Appreciation on the 28. Stay tuned for news of appreciation events happening around the church. In May, we will be finishing up our year-long Pastor's Class with a fieldtrip around the church and special communion. We have five children in the class who have not been baptized yet and two who have joined and give us their insight on their experiences. We may have baptisms on Pentecost Sunday if parents and children feel it is the right time for them. Don't forget, Vacation Bible School is coming in July. Make sure we are on your calendar for July 21-25. Also, JYF camp is August 12-16. Mark your calendars.

Flurries from Chris Over the past few months members of the Outreach Committee and I have been in conversation with some of the leadership for the H.O.M.E. Youth and Resource Center located across the street from our bus barn. We discussed our partnering in serving the youth that visit the resource center. The project we want to get started, hopefully, in June will be called the Culinary Arts Project. This is one of four projects the resource center is taking on to empower their youth.

The idea behind this project is to train five youth at a time in our kitchen, one day a week, in how to use a kitchen while adhering to licensed standards. The program will serve five youth at a time over a six- month time period with the hope they may be able to find employment in the food service industry. If you have any questions about this program, please feel free to come to me and I will do my best to share the details I have with you.

In my article in the last Scroll I mentioned a number of ways to pray. One of those ways was by using a labyrinth. Unless you have a large space for a laby-rinth or have a hand-held one, my guess is that you have not had a chance to engage in this mode of prayer.

During Holy Week, March 24-31 except for Maundy Thursday, we will have a labyrinth available for you to use in the Fellowship Hall. I would encourage you to come to the church during the day or right after work during Holy Week and take some time to take a journey in prayer as you walk the labyrinth. There will be an information sheet and suggested instruc-tions on how to engage the labyrinth in prayer. Some time will also be dedicated during the Tuesday night prayer group to use the labyrinth.

Check It Out! A recent addition to the library, “Unlocked,” by Karen Kingsbury, is an unusual story about an eighteen-year-old boy locked in a prison of autism since he was three.

Holden’s inability to communicate and his quirky ways make him the brunt of bullying and taunting. And then a miracle begins to happen. Ella Reynolds, a star of the high school musical production, is drawn to Holden as she notices how he is drawn to the music.

As the story develops, Ella makes the dramatic discovery that she and Holden were playmates when very young and their mothers were best friends. This discovery and his love of music become the keys to unlocking the prison door which held Holden captive.

This beautiful story of love and faith was inspired by a true life story. You will find “Unlocked”

CWF Rosa Page Welch Group Asking Support for Service Project Leslie Mudge, daughter-in-law to Gary & Sharon Mudge, is a US Army Nurse in Afghanistan. She works in a program that sends nurses to villages to teach basic healthcare, prenatal care, and midwifery.

The Rosa Page Welch group is collecting baby hats and children hats through May 2013. The hats can be gently used.

We would appreciate anything our church members could donate. Please bring your donations to the church office.

Oregon Disciples will convene for a series of conver-sation to explore ministry ideas and resources for congregations. Groups will explore topics including: using social media, ministry with homeless neighbors, mission projects in Mexico, spiritual formation groups, new models for congregational governance, increasing stewardship, attracting new people to congregations and global mission partnerships

Service Projects 11:00 am – 1:00 pm You can sign up for any one of the following projects at the Information Center on Sundays or online at http://volunteersignup.org/QDXHR. Hymn Singing at Nursing Homes and Care Facilities- Depending on how many people sign up ,we will have one or more groups go out to various care facilities in manageable groups to sing some of our favorite hymns as we bring joy to the residents of the facilities. Voices of all ages are welcomed and encour-aged to lifting up a joyful noise. Card-Making with Allison and Crew- Throughout the year the church sends out a number of cards to members and non-members in celebration, encouragement, and mourning with the recipients. This is a minis-try that reminds us all how we are connected with one another. Help us by making some cards that can be sent to our brothers and sisters. This project will take place in the Fellowship Hall and is a great opportunity for all those who find themselves to be a bit crafty. Serving at the Marion-Polk Food Share- We will be serving inside at the Marion-Polk Food Share by helping repack bulk foods, packing food boxes, sorting and organizing food donation bins. This is a project that volunteers of all ages, from young children to grandparents, can participate in serving this organization. Serving at the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) - "Super Yard Overhaul" (weeding, replanting plats, and harvesting our garden). Help us to beautify the surroundings of the home used on a daily basis to provide shelter and resources to its clients. If you have not yet volunteered or experienced what IHN does, this would be a wonderful chance for you to learn about this organization. This is a great project for entire families to come together to serve other families in our community. Serving with the CARA Ministry– Four households from our church are in need of some help around their homes. The projects needed include raking leaves, removal of a shrub, outdoor cleanup, vacuuming, light housekeeping, and hauling away debris. Some of these projects do need to have some supplies provided, such as lawn-care tools, lawnmower, and a pickup truck to haul away the debris. Please sign up for a specific house-hold either online or at the Information Center.
