FLOWERS FOR THE ALTAR

If you would like to place flowers

on the altar in loving memory or in

honor of family or friends for

Sunday Morning Worship. Please

contact Linda Simrell.

Your tribute will be noted in the

Morning Worship Announcements.

Thank you.

College Graduates

We are proud to announce news of our church family

College Graduates.

Congratulations to Paula Houston who graduated from

University of Tennessee Martin with a BS Education.

Paula is the wife of David and mother of Emily Houston.

We also congratulate John Kirkland, son of Charles and Larrabee Kirkland,

who graduated Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with

a BA in Accounting.

If you have additional college graduation news, please call the church office

with the information so we may list it in The Chimes. We all like to “keep

up” with our graduates. Thank you!

Due to the Privacy Act, we are not

allowed to check the hospital census to

see who is hospitalized. We ask that if

you know of friends or family members

who are sick, injured, or having a

medical procedure and/or surgery,

please call the church office or Tim’s

cell phone with this information. Don’t

worry if we already know—multiple

calls will be much better than our not

visiting someone who is ill at home,

in the hospital, or in a care facility.

We cannot visit if we are unaware of the

situation.

THANK YOU!!!!!

Are you new to the area or looking

to join the Church? We will be

having a new member luncheon on

July 10th after 10:50 Worship

Service. If you have questions

about our church or would like to

hear about our programs, please

come on over and share a

meal with us.

Our Church will be celebrating

160 years in August.

Over the next few months we will be planning

activities for the weekend of August 28th.

I would like a picture of any members who have passed. These pictures will not be returned and

put on permanent display. Look for more fun to come.

If you have ideas for the weekend contact

Sherilyn at the church office.

160th

Anniversary Trivia Facts N Fun For the past several weeks, we have been asking questions about our 160 years at

FUMC in our Sunday morning bulletin announcement insert. Below are the

questions we have already asked. The answers are printed on the back of this

page. We hope to pique your interest, add to your information about our church,

and have a lot of fun! We will continue this effort until August.

May 8th question: If you made a family photo (we hope you have done so or

will do so and will send it to Sherilyn at [email protected]), you

might see hidden behind the shrubs about 10’ up to your right a symbol of the

1950’s for the youth of that era. Do you know what we are referring to?

May 15th question: We know that this building was built in 1914 at a final cost

of $31,616.64 by T. L. Bransford and Sons of Union City. An agreement was

signed with builder to withhold $150 of that amount until he fixed a fault. Do

you know what needed fixing?

The book for Book Club this time is Safe

Haven by Nichols Sparks. I ordered 6

copies and they are available in the Church

Office. The cost is $7.00. Our next

meeting will be July 8th at 1:15pm in the Church Library. Thanks, Sherilyn

be Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 1:00pm in the

Anniversary Trivia Facts N Fun

Answer to 5-8 Question: Throughout the years, Union City FUMC has been a meeting

place for numerous Boy and Girl Scout Troops and other youth activities. Most meetings

were held in the basement. At the conclusion of the meetings, scouts exited through the

door located just left of the main steps and waited for their rides home. Of course some

parents were not punctual and there was time for the young scouts to be adventurous.

Many a young man was “dared” to walk the ledge. There is a narrow concrete ledge about

8 to 10 feet up running entirely around the main sanctuary building. That ledge is no longer

available for this daring feat because of the construction of the ramp and the more recent

installation of the railing on either side of the front porch. One of these “daring young

men” is still an active member of FUMC. Ask around, he might “fess up”.

Answer to 5-15 Question: The Builder, T. L. Bransford and Sons were never paid the

$150.00 because “the cellar leaks!” In case you haven’t found the “daring young man”

who walked the ledge—young Bobby Nichols aka Bob Nichols.

Goal for This year

280

Wow!!! What a success Operation Christmas Child was last year!! Our goal for this year is 280 boxes. I have listed all the months and what is to be collected for each month. The green tub is in the mission niche as before, and I hope to empty it every week. I know we can do this and I am so happy that we are a part of changing lives around the world. January: Small Toys - Cars, dolls, games, crafts, puzzles (No guns/war toys).

February: Tooth paste, tooth brushes, bars of soap.

March: Combs, girls’ hair items, wash cloths. April: T- shirts, socks, sunglasses, small purses, hats.

May: Balls, ball caps, jacks, jump ropes. June: Plastic Boxes (shoe size). July: Small drinking cups, water bottles, small bowls. August: School Supplies - paper, pencils, crayons, scissors, and markers. September: Noisy toys, Flashlights, extra batteries, watches. October: Donation month. It takes $7.00 to ship each box. November: Packing Party.

Thanks as always for your support!!

You can pick up a bag, fill it up and return it, then sign the back. We have a few food pantries that the mission team will be helping out with this campaign: Helping Hands Ministry, Reelfoot Rural Ministry,

Shiloh, and the pantry at Pleasant Valley UMC. Your response was AWESOME AGAIN!!!! We had 8 full tubs that Shiloh came and got last week. Their Joy was outstanding!! Our next mission

for the Pack the Pantry will be Reelfoot Rural Ministries. It is a very wonderful experience to hand a family a bag of food knowing they will

enjoy and be creative to make that bag last as long as they can. Thank You for your continued support!!

LETS FILL THEM UP!!!
