The Charger Chronicles Immaculate Conception School Parent Newsletter October 6, 2020 Volume 11 Issue 2 From the Principal Dear Parents, I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well. It is hard to believe that we are already in October and even harder to believe that we are facing another hurricane. We are monitoring hurricane Delta and will keep you informed as we receive information and make decisions. There is a strong probability that we will be off of school on Friday, but not definite! If we are only off on this Friday, then we will not hold virtual school. If, for some unforeseen reason, we would be off longer than the one day, then we would transition into virtual schooling. Once a final decision is made regarding school closings, we will email and text you. The month of October provides many wonderful opportunities to be examples of Christ and to grow in our faith. October is “National Kindness Month” and like we remind the students here at school, we’d ask that you reinforce at home, if you don’t have anything kind to say, say nothing at all, and pray that Jesus teaches us to be kind. It costs nothing to be kind, and Jesus teaches us to love one another; this means to be kind and compassionate to one another. October is also the month of our Blessed Mother and the month of the Rosary. Students will be learning the Rosary in religion classes, and I’d ask that you find opportunities to pray and say the Rosary as a family. The 1st quarter will be ending next week on Friday, the 16th. Students should be making their school work, studies, and academic success their top priority. Parents, please monitor your child’s homework each night and make time to study with your son/daughter. Also, periodically check Plus Portals for your child’s grades. 7th grade exams will be held on Wednesday, the 14th through Friday the 16th. Report cards will be mailed home by Friday, the 23rd. We are beginning the Who Dat Raffle this month, and every family is asked to sell a minimum one book of raffle tickets, but if you have the opportunity through your employment, place of business, or the means to purchase and sell more tickets, this would be greatly appreciated, as this fundraiser is very important to ICS. Thank you for your unwavering support of ICS and for entrusting your children to us. If you ever have any questions, concerns or suggestions on how we may better serve our community, please contact me. “Who Dat” Cash Calendar Raffle It is time to roll out our “WHO DAT” raffle for the 2020-2021 school year. Due the complexities surrounding the current Saints season, this year’s raffle will be a cash only raffle with a $1,000 grand prize. We are asking each family to sell one book (10 tickets). The donation is $10.00 for each ticket ($100 for the entire book). We are once again offering incentives for participating in the raffle including the popular “Limo Lunch.” Tickets will go home with students on Friday of this week. See the attached 2020 WHO DAT Raffle Information Letter and Participation Incentive Flyer. Annual Halloween Family Fun Night After carefully reviewing the recommendations surrounding Halloween events and considering the options to ensure the safety of our students and their families, the decision has been made not to have our annual family fun night. Instead, we will make our family fun night into two fun-filled school days for our students.

Halloween Fun Day will be held on Friday, October 23rd for students in PreK-2 through 7th grade. Students may dress down in Halloween themed or black and orange attire. As classes the students will participate in seasonal activities including picking out a pumpkin in our very own Charger Pumpkin Patch. Families are encouraged to decorate their pumpkins together over the weekend and enter them into our ICS Pumpkin Decorating Contest.

On Friday, October 30th students may wear their Halloween costumes to school for their Halloween class parties. Students may bring individually wrapped treats for their classmates. Room parents along with homeroom teachers will plan the parties. Be on the lookout for more information as party day nears.

See the attached flyers for information on Halloween @ ICS and Pumpkin Decorating Contests guidelines.

  • October 8, 2020 Dear Charger Family, As we navigate this unprecedented school year, it is time for our ICS “WHO DAT” Back to School Raffle! Started in 2016, the ICS “WHO DAT” Back to School Raffle has generated over $83,000 for our school in the last three years. Due to the pandemic and the complexities surrounding attending public events, this year’s raffle prizes will be CASH only! It is our hope that next year’s raffle will once include the opportunity to attend a Saints game in the luxury of a private suite.

The ICS “WHO DAT” Back to School Raffle is a calendar raffle with a cash prize for each day from November 1 through November 30. Cash prizes range from $25.00 to $1,000.00. Drawings will be held on November 6, 13 and 20, 2020 at Immaculate Conception School. Drawn tickets go back into the drawing weekly, so ticket holders have multiple chances to win!

For the 2020-2021 school year, we are asking that each family sell at least one book/10 raffle tickets. The donation is $10.00 for each ticket ($100 for the entire book).

As a special thank you for selling raffle tickets, for each 10 tickets sold you will receive a special ICS/Saints t-shirt. Students may wear the t-shirt on designated days throughout the football season. In addition, we have additional prizes and incentives for participating in the raffle. New this year is the opportunity for students to earn dress down passes for turning in your tickets early. See the accompanying flyer for all incentives.

All questions concerning the raffle and requests for more tickets should be directed to Mrs. Silvana Collins by email at [email protected] or by calling her at school at 504-347-4409 ext. 2609.

    Blessings,

Mrs. Kim DiMarco Mrs. Silvana Collins Principal Advancement Director
