WHEW!...Glad Summer is Over!

2014-15 Parent Orientation Night September 2nd -- The Cavalier Battalion had their

first Parent Orientation Night in the new District Six Performing Arts Center. Cadets were joined by their parents to find out more about the Dorman JROTC program. Orientation activities target Freshman Cadets and their parents. Cadets and parents assembled in the auditorium lobby at 6:00 pm where they could interact with older Cadets to ask questions about the program. Parents were offered a chance tosign up with the JROTC Battalions Parent Support Group. We also hosted a JROTC fundraiser where everyone could donate to The JROTC fundraiser for a chance to win some great door prizes.

The program began by the presentation of colors followed by the singing of the national Anthem by c/LT Tara Williams. Cadets and parents witnessed what it would be like to be a Cadet in the Cavalier Battalion through an informative slide show depicting a year’s worth of activities in our Battalion . They heard speeches from Colonel Pettit, Senior Army Instructor, and c/LTC Ashley Middleton, Cavalier Battalion Commander. At the end of the night MSG John Wright and c/Sergeant SantaCruz conducted the drawings for door prizes. The grand prize was a pair of Beats headphones. The night was very informative, yet fun, and I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a great time.

Inspirational quote of the

month

This month’s Cadet profile is the 2014-15 Cavalier Battalion Commander, Cadet Lieutenant Colonel (C/LTC) Ashley Middleton. She is a member of the Cavalier Raider team, Color Guard, Drill team, Spirit Platoon, and JLAB team. We recently asked Cadet Middleton what her goals were for the Battalion this year and she replied, “I would love to see more Cadets being leaders through their actions, not just saying they are leaders. Ultimately seeing more leaders will instill the mission of the JROTC program.” She works extremely hard to motivate and ensure trust within the Battalion on a daily basis.

Cadet Middleton was selected as one of 300 females all over SC to be a part of the 2014 summer Leadership Camp at Converse College.Middleton says that her biggest inspiration has been her father, who has always pushed her to overcome any obstacle. When asked what leadership advice would she give to her Cadets this year she replied, “Always try your best no matter what you are doing, you may fall down sometimes, but getting back up and knowing how to fix it the next time is what gives you the satisfaction of moving on.” Cadet Middleton was recently accepted into the University of North Georgia (Dahlonega, GA) and will be attending UNG next fall.

Ashley spends most of her free time around the Cavalier Battalion JROTC Department leading Cadets and working with her Company Commanders and Battalion Staff to ensure the command is running smoothly. Outside the Cavalier Battalion, Cadet Middleton is very active in other areas. She is currently a member of the Dorman Chamber Singers where she sings Soprano 2.

--Bud Schiele from front page in self-confidence.” JCLC is clearly more than a camp. Every Cadet who has gone to JCLC has come home with a positive experience and even more positive life lessons. It’s a place to build character and strengthen self-esteem. Most want to do it all again.

prelude to the 19 September Wounded Warrior football game against Dutch Fork. Our Cadets will be out in force as Wounded Warrior escorts during the football game. The road march is a way for our Cadets to show support to the Wounded Warrior Foundation and our local veterans. Nearly 130 Cadets showed up for the march. Many parents, friends and family also participated in the 10K walk. Cavalier Cadets are donating $1000 to the Warrior program.
