Leeds International Concert Season presents

Fell Clarinet QuartetIn this interactive family concert the Fell Clarinet Quartet takes you on a musical journey around the world. Learn the rhythms of a tango, clap along to a lively Hungarian dance, discover how to dance a Scottish Reel and then chill out with some jazz. The programme will include The Can Can by O� enbach; The Elephant from Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals; arrangements of traditional music from England, Scotland, China and Australia; and popular music from fi lm and television. Budding conductors may also get the chance to conduct!

Naomi Rothwell with Beth Caudlein association with Emerge presents

The Dreamsof PhilominaA tale of love and loss, with a whole lot of silliness in between.Philomina is a lonely widow who gets one last opportunity to say goodbye to her husband before he moves on to the next life. Her adventures take her on a magical voyage through an unfamiliar land – where things aren’t always quite what they seem…Combining storytelling, puppetry and live music, this heart-warming new show asks what would you say if you could speak to the person you loved one last time?

Pure Brass EnsemblePure Brass present an eclectic programme exploring all things brass. The quintet will introduce the di� erent instruments of the brass family, demonstrate how to make a sound from them –and then it’s your turn!During the concert you’ll meet Jimbo’s Aliens and hear some recognisable fi lm themes.There’ll also be plenty of opportunities to join in on percussion. Make sure you brush up on your animal impersonations as Nellie’s Nutcracker, based on Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker,will require lots of audience input.

Room in the SkyWhen Mr Rossi does this show with Mr Lynch it always goes wrong.Mr Rossi hasn’t learned his lines and doesn’t even speak English.As they struggle with each other to getsomewhere they take us on a fantasticjourney, passing by shrinking desertislands, some frantic Shakespeare anda storm at sea. They invite everyone onstage as the show spills out into theauditorium, collecting them up for agiant-size instant photograph.From the company that broughtyou The Fish’s Wishes.

Horse & Bamboo Theatre Company presents

Storm in a TeacupIt’s not always easy making friends, especially when you live in a lighthouse surrounded by dangerous rocks, towering waves and troublemaking seagulls. An exciting opportunity for a tea party with a friend arises when the supply boat comes, but the lighthouse keeper’s nervousness turns what could have been a delight into a disaster. It’s only when a storm blows in and real disaster looms that he can fi nd the courage to save the day and rebuild his friendship.Horse + Bamboo Theatre make visual theatre in which music and story-telling is central, using masks, movement, puppetry and fi lm.

Elmer was di� erent. Elmer was patchwork. He was yellow and orange and red and pink and purple and blue and green and black and white. But he was not elephant-coloured. One night Elmer couldn’t sleep for thinking, and the think that he was thinking was that he was tired of being di� erent. So o� he set in search of the elephant-coloured berry bush. And this is where our story begins...

Appearing as Dr Johnson is Ian Redford, praised for his performance as the same character in the hit comedy A Laughing Matter at the National Theatre. He has performed at the Old Vic and Shakespeare’s Globe, and for two years played Keith Appleyard in Coronation Street. Director Max Sta� ord-Clark has directed acclaimed productions at the National Theatre, RSC and the Royal Court.

The Post-ShowParty ShowThe award-winning Michael Pinchbeck takes his parents on tour to recreate the post-show party where they met in 1970 after an amateur dramatic production of The Sound of Music. His mum was a nun. His dad was a Nazi. This is the remarkable, moving and highly entertaining story of the woman who married one of the truly great fi gures of the twentieth century: Sir Winston Churchill.Writer Hugh Whitemore won an Emmy and the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Television Drama for The Gathering Storm, which looked at Churchill in the 1930s. His latest Churchill fi lm, Into the Storm, was broadcast by the BBC in November 2009. In the lead role is Rohan McCullough, a “fantastically talented and moving actress” (The Scotsman) who has appeared at the RSC, and in fi lms such as David Hare’s Strapless.

Fuzzy Logic is a new company co-founded by Total Theatre Award-winner Matt Rogers (Chotto Ookii Theatre Company) to create bizarre yet touchingly human stories with a darkly comic edge.

BarThe Carriageworks Bar on Level 2 provides spectacular views overlooking Millennium Square. Enjoy a drink before the show, during the interval or after the curtain has fallen. To avoid queuing during the interval, orders may be placed before the show starts.

ConferencingIn addition to the 349 seater Main Auditorium, a further six meeting rooms are available for workshops and meetings accommodating various numbers of delegates. All conference rooms provide AV equipment, air conditioning and support from Carriageworks sta� , ensuring a high standard of customer service. Catering is also available.

Three of the six meeting rooms are situated in the historic part of the old Carriageworks development. These meeting spaces reveal exposed brickwork and roof beams in keeping with the Victorian architecture whilst providing a light and airy studio feel.
