Announcements

Celebrating 30 Years of Women in Rotary

What a wonderful night we had last Monday ‘Celebrating 30 Years of Women in Rotary’. Professor Lyn Beazley was an inspiring, interesting, informative and entertaining, speaker. The wide range of topics she raised was amazing.

Colin had two very interesting, entertaining and different presentations for all to enjoy.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a great night. We were delighted that so many people came to support this event. Thank you to the people who sent messages congratulating the Rotary Club of Attadale on an excellent evening.

Lighting the paths and car park at Tompkins on Swan

Thank you, especially to Ian, who spent a lot of time on the issue and everyone else who raised their concerns about the lack of outside lighting along the paths and in the carpark at Tompkins on Swan, with the staff at Tompkins on Swan and the Melville Council. During the week, we came on a couple of nights to check on the situation. Each night the lights were on in the carpark and lighting part of the pathway. We could do with more lights but it is much better.

Stamps

Thank you to Robin Hamilton and Trevor Leaver for kindly offering to continue collecting used stamps. They have both have been doing this for our club, for many years. It would be a great help if you could cut around the stamps, before handing them in. Robin will pass them on to our Honorary member Trevor Leaver who will deliver them to the collection point. They are used to raise money for Rotary projects.

Record of Leave

The Record of Leave book will be on the entry table every week.

➢ Please see that your information of when you will be away is written in it, ➢ either by you ➢ or Gillian, if you choose to send her the details

If there is no written record, and a meal is ordered for you, we will have to send an invoice for the missed meal. Please help the Club eliminate losing money by having to pay for meals when members do not let us know that they are not attending.

Annual Fees

If there is still anyone yet to pay their annual fees, we would appreciate you doing so.

Slide Show

Colin prepared a slide show of Celebrating 30 Years of Women in Rotary for us to enjoy during the meal.

Guest Speaker Richard Seale ~ ‘Front Porch Films’

Richard Seale, President Gail McCulloch and Ian Pittaway

Front Porch Films is an amazing concept. It is a way of recording memories of people on film.

Richard Seale shared with us a short extract of a movie he made with a woman who was born in 1928. She spoke of memories throughout her life as she was being filmed.

This is a wonderful record for family and friends to have, as often these stories are never shared. The difference between the generations growing up is huge and unless these memories from the past are recorded, they will be lost.

Richard’s advice was to not try and include everything but share the journey of memories in more of a story format.

The idea of recording memories appealed to everyone and having it filmed was a great way to do it.

Winners The winner of the Door Prize was Bev Moffat and the Raffle, Robin. The Joker remains in the pack.

Thumbnail Sketch

Bob Rodgers shared with us lots of interesting memories from his life which began in Collie. He moved to Fremantle near Beaconsfield when he was ten or eleven years old and attended the local school.

He went to Perth Modern School then the University of WA where he did a degree in the Arts and Education. He is married to Dellys and they have three children and three grandsons.

Bob has had an interesting working life which enabled him to work in a number of areas which also included traveling overseas.

Reports Fund Raising

Rod Rate reminded members of the planned Movie night for October 6, so we can let our family, friends and other contacts know that it is on in plenty of time. We would like them to keep the date free and avoid seeing the movie beforehand. Rod sent out the details to all on his data base and offered to organise a table for dinner at the Karalee Tavern afterwards if they would like. He also told them of the huge raffle they will be eligible to win.

Giovanna has offered to help put the raffle prizes together, so if you have items suitable for this, please contact her. Rod read a thank you card from the Royal Flying Doctor Service for our cheque for $9250, raised at our ‘Music in the Air Concert’. They will use the money to purchase new medical equipment. Family of Rotary Ian told the members that Tom Slater was in hospital. We wish him well and Ian will let us all know how he is.

Happy Dollars

Greg James was able to extract some dollars from the guests.

Where is the President?

Greg congratulated Gail on her first month as President, but said he actually thought

the lectern was the President, as he couldn’t see her.

. Greg and Rod chipped in and bought a step stool to solve

the problem!!!!!!!!

No stool With stool

Heather and Keith McNaught were delighted to pay some Happy Dollars as their youngest daughter had recently become engaged. Jeff Spickett paid some Happy Dollars in recognition of his granddaughter turning twenty-one.
