  • Meeting February 3 President Gail McCulloch was delighted to welcome our guest speaker Jennifer Merigan, Joyce Smith, and her daughters Jacqui Smith and Mel Longman and son Scott Smith, who came to support their lovely Mum. Gail was also pleased to welcome Shelley Konig, Trish Sharp and Andrew Korol from the Melville Rotaract group, and all members.

    Wishing Keith, a very Happy Birthday

    Attendance President Gail has been in contact with Tompkins on Swan management regarding when we notify them of meal orders for our Monday meeting, as we start a new year. At the end of last year, in their busier months, they asked us to notify them on Friday mornings. so, to maintain a routine we will stick with Friday and carry on as we have been doing.

    If you are NOT attending or you are a visitor please let Gillian know by 7.00pm on the Thursday prior to the Monday meeting.

    Annual Charity Golf Day and Music in the Air Concert The committees for the Annual Charity Golf Day to be held on Friday 6 March and the Music in the Air Concert to be held on Saturday 28 March have been meeting, and plans are well underway. We will soon be asking people to help with certain jobs. It is great that not only members offer their help but also their partners. This is what makes our Club so great.

  • 20th Anniversary of ShelterBox At our Dinner Meeting on April 6, we will host the 20th Anniversary of ShelterBox with the launch of the ShelterBox 2020 Vision book The guest speaker will be Mike Greenslade, CEO of ShelterBox. His talk will be very interesting and inspiring, so please invite family and friends to come and hear about and see the amazing work that is done by the ShelterBox team.     Used Stamps Robin Hamilton sent out an email reminding everyone to save used postage stamps and give them to him. He passes them on to Honorary member Trevor Leaver who delivers them to be used for Rotary Projects.

    Melville Rotaract Andrew Korol from the newly formed Melville Rotaract group spoke about the Quiz Night they are planning to hold on Feb 28.

    If you would like to support these young people, please let Gillian know. We already have some people indicating they will attend. See poster later in the Bulletin.

  • Induction of Joyce Smith

    President Gail McCulloch said it was a great pleasure and privilege to welcome Joyce Smith into membership of the Rotary Club of Attadale and the Global Rotary Family.

    Gail was delighted to announce that Carole Maxwell will be Joyce’s Mentor and Sponsor.

    Carole introduced Joyce and gave a brief outline of Joyce’s life, from the time she arrived in Australia from Aberdeen in Scotland at the age of thirteen. Joyce worked in finance as an acceptance officer. She and her husband Brett had three children and now have four grandchildren. Sadly, Brett passed away in 2017. Joyce is a regular volunteer at Vinnies and is keen to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

    After the presentation ceremony, President Gail congratulated Joyce saying: “I know you will find inspiration in service, and enjoyment in the fellowship of this Club and I look forward with confidence to

  • your participation, contribution, and utilizing your energy and talents, to help us progress the Mission of Rotary International.”

    Joyce was invited to speak and said she was very grateful for the warm and friendly way she had been welcomed, and was looking forward to enjoying the great fellowship as well as contributing to the projects the club undertakes.

    Guest Speaker Jennifer Merigan Editor ~ Have-A-Go-News ~ ‘A Bit of History”

    Have a Go News was established in 1991, and is the ONLY wholly family owned and longest running lifestyle and information newspaper for the mature market in Western Australian.

    Over the years Have a Go News has received many acknowledgements and awards, including winning the WA Senior Awards, 2000, 2006, 2010, was a finalist in WA Heritage Awards, 2009. They won the 2011 media award for the Bethanie Medallion and many other accolades.

    It is a monthly newspaper offering lifestyle options and information for people 50 and over in WA. They offer a digital version and hard copy and an active Facebook page, which offers a variety of competitions, activities, information and lots of fun!

    Their mission is to sustain and provide mature Western Australians with a voice and connection to their community through the pages of Have a Go News.

    Jennifer entertained the meeting with stories of happenings in the fifties and sixties. She brought back many memories and was a delightful guest speaker.

Please come and join us for the weekend.     The set up and pack up Rotarians shall: • Arrive at least 30 mins before the meeting starting time

    • Retrieve the small Australian flags, the Sergeant's gavel and gong, collection box, donations tin, Joker container and two bottles of wine.

    • The small flags shall be spread around the tables.

    • The Sergeant's and President's items are to be placed on the President's table

    • The microphones provided by Tompkins on Swan shall be turned on and tested

    • At the completion of the meeting, all items shall be returned to the storeroom cupboard

    The hosts shall: • Arrive at least 30 minutes before meeting starting time

    • Retrieve the wooden badge holder cabinet from the storeroom and place it within greeting area

    • Greet all Rotarians with a handshake and give them their badge.

    • Greet guests and welcome them and introduce them to at least two Rotarians

    • Greet the guest speaker if the Chairperson is unavailable

    • After the meeting, retrieve all name badges, place them in the wooden cabinet and return to storeroom

    The chairperson shall: • Read the Bulletin in advance and then contact Program Director for CV of speaker

    • Arrive at Dinner Meeting venue at least 35 mins before starting time

    • Greet and welcome the GS at the entrance and introduce them to the President and at least four Rotarians

    • Assist the GS to setup his/her audio/visual and any other aids

    • Show GS where to sit down for dinner on President's table and where to speak

    • Invite the GS to stay for tea or coffee afterwards and ask them if they are happy to answer questions then

    • Advise GS to speak for 20-30 minutes (or as agreed with Programme Director) including questions

    • Introduce the GS by name and topic when requested by the President

    • Formally introduce the GS by written CV addressing name, vocation, qualifications, family (if appropriate), interests and lastly topic. This should take from one to two minutes only.

    • Chair the speaker session allowing one question per Rotarian or Guest

    • Terminate the session with the presentation of the gift coaster (from Secretary)

    • Escort the GS to the door after the meeting (and to their vehicle if appropriate)
