Smc A SECTIONby Jason Frenkel

0 nce again the opening round of the VAFA sea-son was blessed with beautiful weather and

both Saturday and Sunday provided perfect con-ditions for football . The A-section didn't disappointwith five bumper clashes and an exciting blend oftalent, surprise and good old-fashioned hard footyon show at the various venues .

The abundance of talent was to be found atToorak Park, where the reigning premiers showedwhy they've won three on the trot with an 84-pointhiding of the Redlegs. Promising signs across townat Camberwell Sports Ground too, but it wasn'tcoming from the runners-up as Scotch went downto a rejuvenated University Blues by 45 points . DeLa Salle jostled all afternoon at home to the Lionsbefore a 5 goal final term helped them to a 17point win over the undermanned Collegians . Thetwo newcomers to A-section, Old Brighton and St .Kevins, both got close to wins in Round 1 but nei-ther walked away the points . SKOBS fought backfrom a 7 goal deficit at three-quarter time to getwithin a point of Old Haileybury in a fantasticgame at Glenferrie Oval . Old Brighton also hadsome chance of winning in the last quarter of theirgame, on Sunday at Elsternwick Park, before St.Bernards kicked away to a 20 point win . LukeVassallo proved to be the difference between thetwo sides with seven match-winning goals in abest-on-ground performance that earned him thehighly-coveted Sportscover Player of the Dayaward on Optus Vision channel 50 .

PREVIEWLast week's break should see all sides fresh

and firing today for the four Saturday games andSunday's Match-of-the-Day between St. Kevinsand Co ll egians at Elsternwick Park .

The Lions have been rocked by player lossesover the summer with a sizeable chunk of the1997 team missing from this year's line-up .Jefferson has proved to be a valuable ruckman forthe Lions but Marcus Dollman and former OldParadian Dion Ciavola head a strong on-ball unitfor St . Kevins in the middle and will be crucial atthe centre bounce contests . Warne-Smith is capa-ble of kicking big bags of goals for Collegians but Ifancy they will struggle to cover the likes ofGarvey, Fraser, Mahoney and Ryan in the St .Kevins forward line . SKOBS by 21 points .

Two sides looking to stay in good form are UniBlues and De La Salle in what should be a greatmatch at the University Oval on Saturday . Bluesput a disappointing '97 behind them with a great

win over Scotch and [De Crespigney looksto be a valuableaddition to a forwar dline that already contains the talented AdLennen. De La will be a difficult proposition «youngster Simon Wood and the returnedMannix bolstering their tall man stakes this sson while Evans . Elliot, Jackson and co . will behand to drive the D's forward. Blues at home i:close one by 5 points .

Old Brighton host Old Scotch in a mawhere both sides will be looking to improvetheir first round efforts . Old Brighton had plenbthe ball against Bernards but will need to dispiof it better if they are to get the most out of Iwards Nick Perry and Tim McNamara. The matup between Tim Holt and Mathew Jackson inCardinals' backline promises to be a beauty wthe dashing Brighton forward pitted againstdiminutive Scotch speedster. Brighton bypoints.

St. Bernards travel south of the river agathis time hoping to find an Old Melburnians sshell-shocked from a first-round thrashing. TwcA-grade's most enigmatic players will featurethis game, with the wily Micah Berry capableturning a match on its head for the Redlegs . WlLuke Vassallo showed in Round 1 not only !matchwinning qualities but his versatility at h<dling a variety of roles, with a shift down fonv<that paid off with seven goals . It will be interest ;to see where Garry Foulds plays him today, buthink the Redlegs will bounce back to win bypoints .

Old Haileybury face the daunting CXave ri ans team at home in an important gameSimon Meehan's charges. Tall timber is in abcdance at Old Haileybury with the two setsbrothers. Seccull and Hilton, along with CnHucker, providing the Bloods with marking povall over the ground . Options aplenty for Xavs Iwith Richardson, Bourke and Jones all capablekicking big scores and a host of on-ballers ahalf forwards handy near the big sticks, but jtfor the heck of it . I'm tipping the Bloods inboilover by 18 points .

B SECTIO Nby Michael Georg e

Season 1998 kicked off with all clubs either joining orrejoining B Section winning, perhaps suggesting

some of the stalwarts might be in for a rough year .Both Old Trinity and Old Paradians appear to set

good for years and North Old boys first up win bodeswell for them.

After a disastrous tipping debut (one out of five), thisscribes tips should perhaps be ignored although armedwith one rounds form as a guide things might improve .MARCELLIN V. OLD IVANHOE

Marcellin after trailing Old Ivanhoe at quarter timewere able to record their first win in B Section for theyear. Marcellin held a four goal led at half time but facedan Old Ivanhoe revival in the second half. However OldIvanhoe's increased workrate did not necessarily convertinto goals having ten scoring shots for the term . In con-trast Marcellin although attacking less still managedfour goals including a bomb from the boundary line fromKaravasilis. Old Ivanhoe got to within 4 points at the 22minute mark of the last quarter but Marcellin were ableto steady and stand up to the Old Ivanhoe pressure, repelling their attacks in the final minutes of the game .In the end it was Marcellin's more structured forwardline which proved the decisive factor .NORTH OLD BOYS V. MHSOB

B Section's other debutants, North Old Boys alsokicked off their season with a win over MHSOB . In asolid team performance NOB's burst clear with a ninegoal second quarter and while MHSOB were fighting itright out they were unable to reel them in . NOB's had anumber of avenues to goals with six multiple goalkick-ers led by Khroder with 5. MHSOB relied more heavilyon Woodley who kicked 7 for the losers .OLD PARADIANS V. THERRY PENOLA

Old Paradians in a high scoring clash at Parade wereable to hold off a final flurry from Therry Penola to recorda home win . The game turned into a shoot out betweenthe two forward lines and Old Parade were well servedby forwards McMahon 6, Brullo 4. and Ciavola kicking3 goals where as Therry spread their goals around withseven multiple goal kickers . Therry should be encour-aged by a good performance against perennial power-house Parade away from home and by their freakishaccuracy in front of goal, kicking 20 .2 which kept themin the game.OLD TRINITY V. ORMOND

Old Trinity recorded a good away win againstOrmond after trailing at three quarter time . In a gamethat was 'nip and tuck' all day Old Trinity were able togain the ascendancy through some astute moves atthree quarter time by Bernie Dunn and younger legs fin-ishing the game off more strongly . Ormond were ninepoints up at three quarter time and at home would havebeen confident of hanging on to grab the points .However a revamped Trinity line-up drove the ball for-

ward to their polishedforward unit ofStickland (5 goals) andHeath (4 goals) andkicked away to win by21 points .IVANHOE V. MAZENOD

Mazenod got over the line in a thriller at WarPark in Round One . The game was close all dayIvanhoe leading by 11 points at half time. But it w<the third quarter where Mazenod made what w

a decisive break of the game kicking six goals taking agoal lead into the last term . At the start of the lastit appeared Mazenod were going to run away withgame adding a further three goals . But Ivanhoe at hrefused to lie down with Ivanhoe forwards TagSclocchi and Joyce both scoring. With IvanhoeGiles' goal in the dying seconds of the game the swas tied. In a mad scramble in the centre M

a wrenched the ball out of the centre and wobbl tbehind through to win the game .PREVIEWSOLD TRINITY V. PARADE

In the clash of the heavyweights of B sectionTrinity will enjoy the return to their home groundthe confined spaces of Ormond's Gunn Reserve .Trinity appear to have an effective combinatioiyoungsters (12 out of last Saturdays 21 wereunder 21) and with proven players such as RamsHeath and Stickland will make them hard to beat .Parade also enjoyed a good start to the year, as winform is good form, but with Therry scoring freelyweek they might struggle to contain Old Trinity'swards.MAZENOD V. ORMOND

Mazenod will be on a high after their last kick o:day win and should continue against Ormond at luMazenod will need forwards Ballenger and Fisher t<and will be encouraged by the form of Drew O'Donafand on ballers Murray and Occhuito .

The Ormond brains trust held a lengthy post inconference and the team can be expected to play oufull four quarters this week . Ormond won a lot of :ball against Old Trinity but must convert their chaito win the close ones .

Mazenod by 10 points.MARCELLIN V. NOB'S

In the battle of the section's debutants both wikeen to continue on their winning form . De :Marcellin's home ground advantage, NOB's win ageMHSOB, tipped to be one of the big improvers of theson, suggests they might go on with it against Marc(However Marcellin will be keyed up for And.Caffrey's 200th game for Marcellin .

NOB's by 20 points .

C SECTIONby Russell Gould

have always wondered why marathon runners dowhat they do. They choose to be overly thin, travel t o

a starting line somewhere in the world, and run a real-ly long way. If it is cold, they still just wear shorts anda singlet, plus a pair of mittens . The mittens on theirhands make it alright that the rest of their body is blue. They run, and then they stop . They don't score anypoints, kick any goals or anything, they just run fromA to B . And people watch . Sport is amazing.

REVIEW

The closest contest of the round was at Bluff roadwhere St.Kilda South Caulfield managed to hold outHampton Rovers by just 9 points in a low scoringaffair played in perfect footballing conditions . TheSainters boasted many new faces in their team andwere the steadier in defence in this tight tussle . Roversthough played some encouraging football and wereunlucky to go down. Best for the Sainters were Gilmoreand Astapenko,as well as newcomer Matt O'Keefe whokicked four telling goals .

At Beaumaris, the Sharks unveiled their 'D' sec-tion flag and picked up where they left off last year, dis-posing of Thomastown by 81 points. Thomastowntook the early initiative and had two goals before theSharks could adjust. The Bears continued to playstrong, vigourous footy in the second, but the Sharksmanaged to settle and kicked five quick goals to take ahandy lead into the break . The second half sawBeaumaris take control and on their big home groundthey gradually wore the Bears down to run out com-fortable victors . Best for the winners were Catlin,Easton and Groves, and for Thomastown Chilli, Ariand Skaff tried hard all day.

St .Leos versus Banyule was transferred toBanyule due to ground resurfacing at Bennetswood .but that failed to help the newcomers as St .Leos ran allover them to win by 81 points . The first half was tight, both teams trying to settle into their respective gameplans, and St .Leos lead by 18 points at the long break .The third quarter though was all Two Blues . They piledon 11 goals to 2 to take an unassailable 10 goal leadinto the orange break . They carried it on in the last togive new coach Harry Harisiou as great start with hisnew club .

In what could be described as an upset of sorts,Bulleen/Templestowe out ran last years preliminaryfinalists St .Bedes mentone and were victors to the tuneof 38 points. In ideal conditions at Bulleen, the firstquarter was tight, only five points separating the two atthe break. But the Bullants midfield took over in thesecond term, and they kicked 7 goals to the Tigersthree, thanks primarily to a host of running playersconstantly streaming into their forward line . The Tigersclawed their way back in the third, and the game was

still up for grabs goinginto the last term . Butthe Bullants again set-tled, and throughJames (6 goals) up forward, and solid defence IHare and Smith, they managed to hold out the Ti€Good for the Tigers were vice captain Hayes, as weyoungsters Ryan and Faulkingham .

Old Mentonians defeated Old Geelong bypoints, however no information was received onmatch .

PREVIEWBanyule host a Hampton Rovers side who c

close last week and will really want to win . I'm :Banyule will not want a repeat of their first roeffort, but may still struggle . I will go for HamlRovers .

St.Bedes Mentone host St .Leos who will consthemselves ten foot tall and bulletproof after tthumping round one win . The Tigers though are Eat home and will not want to go 0-2 . Tigers to win .

Old Geelong meet Bulleen/Templestowe,Bullanst also fired up after a good round one win . Ithe Bullants and they played a good style of footstyle that should win this week .

Thomastown are at home and get the chancshow a bit against Old Mentonians . The Bears wcnot have been happy with the last round, but Idon't think they have enough to beat the Pantherswill win .

Finally St .Kilda South Caulfield, who are a ban unknown quantity . take on Beaumaris who nthan proved their capability of making it in C SectI will go for the Sharks, and hope their first up winnot fuelled solely by the adrenalin rush of hoistirpremiership flag.

ThomastownCongratulations to Vince Capeci and Ben Sri

on reaching 100 and 50 games respectively .

St .Bedes Menton eWell done to Dave Goodehild for playing his 10

game for the club in round 1 .

D SECTIONby Ken Bremne r

& Tom Brain

C ood to get the first one under our belts andnow, after the Easter break, evervone shoul d

be munching at the 'bit' to build solid foundationsby notching up a string of victories . For 6 teams atleast, today will hopefully be the starting point, whilst the others will be hoping to building ontheir first round points .REVIEW

Monash Blues 41 point winners over anextremely competitive St . Pats Mentone . Bluesclosed out the Vultures in the second stanza scor-ing 4 majors to nil. St Pats matched Monash in thesecond half, clearly demonstrating that they willbe a force to be reckoned with .

Old Essendon Grammar registered a comfort-able 34 point victory over a'grity St. Johns OC'swho, given that they had to cross the InternationalDate Line did pretty well .

In the battle between two of last season's EGrade premiers, Southbank and Yarra ValleyOB's, the Bankers held sway in a top class gameto run out victors by 40 points .

At Pitcher Park, Salesian jumped Parksideearly doors, however the 'Red Devils' matched up,drew level at quarter time then advanced to a fourgoal lead at half time . Again Salesian knuckleddown and got to within three points at lemon time .The last term belonged to Parkside and theyblitzed Salesian to ultimately score a big 10 goal^ir: .

In a game dominated by defences of bothteams . AJAX were able to get their centreline fir-ing after the long interval and race to a 32 pointlead at the last break against a very determinedUni Blacks team. Sustaining some seriousinjuries the Jackers played out the last 8 minuteswith only 16 men and withstood a late Blackschallenge to limp over the line 23 points ahead .

Whitefriars were basically in control all day inthe match against Aquinas . The Friars 5 goalquarter time lead was maintained throughout, although Aquinas did get to within 20 points mid-way through the last, before the Friars rallied andslammed another 5 snags to wrap things up .PREVIEW

St . Johns OC v. Monash Blues - No club everexperiences an easy days outing against St .Johns . especially at Doveton and even more sowhen the 'hosts' are coming off a loss . The 'Blues'can rightly enter the game with a degree of confi-dence, however KB reckons the JOC's greaterdetermination might take the wind out of their

sails by 12 points . Whilst agreeing with most of ;co-scribes' comments I fell the confidence 1Blues would have gained from their first up vmight be just enough to get them over the lieven out at Dandenong.

Yarra Valley OC v. Old Essendon GrammaThe Valley boys will need to be at their bestovercome an accomplished Essendon team, l:given that they will have unfurled their premi, ship pennant, they're more than likely to be Nuand truly primed for a big one . In a tipster's niglmare, KB gives the nod to Yarra Valley bypoints . TB thought that Yarra were quite imprfsive last week even though they lost, they eyoung and fit and now having had a taste of thesection will come out strongly and should just Nia close one against a competitive OEG .

Parkside v. Southbank - A game between bfirst round winners. Both teams have had a terric association in the past 6 or so years with hoours about even, both on and off field . Purfbased on bias . KB selects Southbank to win bypoints in what is anticipated to be a crackerjagame . I believe that Parkside were very impressiin round 1 but so where the Tigers. Both sides rtthe ball well and have good defenses but t]Bankers may just have a bit more fire power tforward than the Devils to win a'tight one .

Salesian v . AJAX - The home team will 1eager to notch up their first four points of the ye<however the visiting team will be just as keenbuild on their hard fought first round victorInjury plagued but with great depth, the Jackeare KB's selection to continue on their winnixway, albeit in a close encounter, by 9 pointSalesian would be disappointed with their openirwhile the Jackers would have been jumping ovthe moon with their performance, and with mo :players returning to the fold TB tips them to coitinue their winning ways .

Whitefriars v. Uni. Blacks - The Friars boaa very potent attack pitted against a rock solbtight defence . Weight of numbers will giiWhitefriars the chance to post a winning score anthe Blacks will have to capitalise on every onetheir own forward forays . KB confidently predicia comfortable winning margin of 40 points ifavour of the Friars. Always hard to beat at ho

TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS

One of our goal umpires in Round I at the Hampton

Rovers v. St . Kilda South Caulfield (actually doing hisfirst ever game with the VAFA having come from theSouthern League) . was seen hobbling from the groundat half time with a calf injury . Spending the whole halftime break getting a rub down from the Hampton Roversphysio (thanks for that) .

The goal umpire did the second half with great gustounder the circumstances.

Someone should have told this goal umpire that theAmateurs is a lot rougher and tougher . Especially for

goal umpires. Well done Eugene.

LAST WEEK'S RULE ANSWER

The VAFA do not require a line across the centre ofthe circle (see p.97 of the 1998ix Fixture ane

bfrokm andv the as such ruckmen can approach

direction .

OPENING REMARKWell the first round has been and gone and already

a week off due to the Easter weekend .

I can assure you there would be a few of the elderstatesman quite happy with the week's break, and prob-ably would ideally like a week's break between everyround of the season . Only joking guys and gals .

Now that you have had a sniff of the 1998 season,

there is great opportunity for all umpires to put in somegood performances now and set yourselves up for th e

rest of the season . Good luck to all.Adam & Leah

In a pair of Blades boots, with the revolutionary sole system

and internal wedge, you'll notice the improved performance and

comfort where it m.-I.tters most . On the ground .

REVIEW

Round one, phew its over, the nerves are all thatittle more relaxed now, having had a weeks

rest . As predicted, the Hunters got over St . Marys,Power House had a little more than Chirnside .Peninsula woke up Caulfield, Swinburne upset theWickers at home in a great first up win and OldCamberwell had a little too much for Oakleigh .

PREVIEWNow in round two, we have Chirnside Park at

home against Glenhuntly . In what should turn outto be quite a good home ground advantage through-out the year I'll tip the homeside for this reasonalone. Glenhuntly look to be in good form though .so Chirnside will have to perform at their very bestfor a home side victorv .

Elsternwick take on Power House at home inwhat should turn out to be a more competitiveaffair. Elsternwick have the ingredients to perform

well but as previously mentioned might just rely ontoo few. Thus, Power House coming off a confidenceboosting first-up victory should get another fourpoints.

At home Old Camberwell take on Swinburne .Both coming off good wins in Round 1 and both fullof confidence . Old Camberwell at home should andwill turn out to be a big task for all comers this sea-son and Swinburne will learn of this very quickly .The home side is my tip, although last weekSwinburne surprised many although not likelytoday.

Caulfield to take on Oakleigh at home . Bothsides didn't get the flying start they were after butstill showed enough to prove they'll be their aboutslater in the season . Caulfield like the other tips sofar are playing at home so again for this reason I'lltip them but only just .

In the final game of the round. St. Mary's takeon Peninsula . Peninsula will go north full of co nfi-

dence from theirRound I victory and ~should have toomuch fire power forSt . Mary's even at home .

In the two's I'll tip - Chirnside Park. PoweHouse. Old Camberwell. Caulfield at home an(Peninsula .

Perfect conditions send us on our 4 plus monthjourney to the '98 flag deciding day, with Kew ,

Williamstown CYMS and Old Carey all lookingominous . These are though, very early days, andwho knows what the post El Nino winter holds instore?

REVIEW

UHSOB found Old Carey's all-round skills abit beyond them at this stage of their preparation, but are not to be written off, another couple ofgames will make a big difference . The C's wererelieved to have such a good start, and with theirdefence tight, the on-bailers creative, and the for-wards very efficient, coach Glenn Taylor wasalmost caught smiling!

Fitzroy Reds began their year well againstLaTrobe University with a convincing win, butboth sides are saying nothing, so the scribe can'treally improve on that !

Richmond Central again confounded thescribe with a good win over Bulleen Cobras in ahigh scoring game . Central broke away in the thirdterm to set up their win . Chris Andonopoulos,Central on-baller, scared the daylights out of someparrots flying over the field by briefly joining themtaking a screamer in the first . Cobras had topgames from their full forward, and Schneider andThompson were also in top form .

No rth Brunswick ran up against a Kew side attheir steamrolling best . Serge D'Angelo already hasthe Brown and Gold machine moving sweetly, andNorth could find no answers . Despite MickSorletto's courageous efforts . North were under-manned and no match for the superior Kew. And,note carefully. Porte and King were not in the Kewline-up! Newcomer Hayden Sheehan stood out forKew in the ruck and FP.

Williamstown CYMS were too strong for OldWestbourne in a solid win . The youthful CY's run-ners were too much for the 'early season' Warriors, who would have been in serious strife without MalGibb's marking, and Brad Franklin's possessiongetting .

PREVIEW

La Trobe play UHSOB after both will have set-tled down from the 'un-natural' pre-Easter firstround . LaTrobe's big ground might have the Greenand Browns in a spot of bother by the last quarter, and the home side should be 2 or 3 goals up at thesiren .

Bulleen Cobras host Fitzroy Reds for theirfirst fixture game back at the Koonung since the

'96 season. The iCobras have loads oftalent available andit is just a matter of -them 'clicking' together on the field for them tibecome a top combination . Reds could well be th,dark horse of '98, so tipping against them todacould be foolhardy, but the Cobras are a 6 goabetter on their home turf and should win by 3 or,goals .

Kew confront Richmond Central in whapromises to be a top match . Central's big problenwill be shutting down Kew's powerhouse centre, and on-ballers, who provide so many opportunitie, for their prolific forwards . If Porte and King anback in Kew's side, they will be an added headachfor Tim Pontefract, even though he does have thShannon brothers for such emergencies . BuCentral will still be battling to contain the sheevolume of ball that streams into Kew's scorin ;zone, and at home the latter should carry the da ;by 5 or 6 goals .

Old Westbourne meet North Brunswick aSayers road, with both sides determined tiimprove on round 1 efforts . North will be lookin!for more support for Mick Sorletto . Bill McMahonDarren Adams, and Brett Whitman, while thiWarriors will have worked a bit more 'run' inttheir legs . While it is not easy to win out at wind,Werribee, North should have regrouped better amwin by 4 or 5 goals .

Williamstown CYMS and Old Carey play itthe Match of the Dav, in what should be an earl, guide to the real contenders for '98 honours . Bottsides are very quick and skilful which will, weather permitting, make for exhilarating watching fothe supporters . Equally, they are alike in wantin!to live down the memories of horror finals series it'97 . This scribe was well and truly bollocked by thiC's players for tipping them to win by a few point ;in round 1, but the same margin is tipped in thi ;game . The combination of the Fearon Reserve an(CY's capacity to run all day will test the C's to thei.limit, but their experience and marking poweright round the ground should see them with thei .noses just in front of the line .

Reserves winners should be: UHSOB, Fitzro,Reds . Kew, North Brunswick and Old Carey. To]effort from Central's evergreen forward Pete .Jackson in dobbing 10 big ones against

t Cobras. Well done Jacko! !Correspondents the Monday numbers an

As we all know, football is a winter sport but eventhe purists will no doubt reflect during the

murky months of June and July as to the wonder-ful conditions greeting all sides in the first round .The only down side was the number of 'cramps'sustained that kept trainers and water boys alike .extremely busy . As Malcolm Blight would say, round one saw F Section produce a pizza shop ofresults. namely a small, couple of mediums and alarge win . Still, to all the clubs who sustained a fistround loss, bear in mind that no Olympic marathonhas ever been won by the first runner out of the sta-dium .

REVIEWWerribee notched its first win in the VAFA in a

game in which the final result was not a true indi-cation of the competitiveness of the two sides . TheRats led early and still only three points separatedthe two sides at three quarter time until Werribeekicked away in the last quarter . Rutherford . Suttonand Gatley were the best for the Rats .

The Gryphons confirmed many pre-seasonexpectations with a resounding victory over EleyPark . The Sharks will want to consolidate quickly toavoid repeats in the future .

Syndal Tally Ho greeted the Senior grade with aconfidence boosting win at the expense of WestBrunswick . Whilst it is early days, things are look-ing good for the Hoers.

Finally, the Hawks were the only away fromhome winners as they journeyed out to Eltham . Agreat first quarter set them up but it was a strugglefrom then on as the Turtles slowly but unsuccess-fully whittled back the lead.

PREVIEWThe first game for preview sees West Brunswick

at home to Monash . The Westies disappointment at

their first roundeffort would bematched by the jubi-lation of theGryphons. Whilst the home paddock is sure to offesolace to the Westies . The Gryphons are boiling athe moment and are expected to notch back to bac :victories first uo .

The next game sees two victors from the firsround cash when Hawthorn hosts Syndal at thHawks new home ground of "Dog Doo Reserve" . Thpooper scooper has been in overdrive to ensure n,accidents are incurred . Syndal was ultra impressiv, first up however the Hawks away win also countstrongly in their favour . Fancy the Hawks to do it fo'Big Dave' in a close one.

The third game for decision sees ANZ AlberPark host Eltham . The Rats were in the game for ~long time in what was an unfamiliar surround:against Werribee. The Turtles had a lot of the plaiafter quarter time in their match but were alway:playing catch up football after a poor first stanzaBoth sides will be keen to notch up their first wirfor the season however the Rats might just sneak

i at home. The final match sees Eley Park play host to the

visiting Werribee. Coach Hook would have bee extremely concerned after the first game and will b e

looking for a much improved effort from his Sharks,However, the Werribee running brigade might havea bit too much in reserve and consequently helpthem record a 3-4 goal win .

Press Correspondents : The F Section scribe felta bit like the girl with Nana Mouskouri glasses atthe school dance . Plenty of fish but just the wrongbait. Thanks to the Rats who did bother to send areport in . (B) 9555 0900 (Fax) 9553 3675 before5 .00pm Monday .
