A number of new construction milestones were achieved over the last several months as construction on the new International Terminal at Calgary International Airport (YYC) continues. The International Terminal is the second part of The Calgary Airport Authority’s more than $2 billion Airport Development Program (ADP) which, along with the new terminal, includes construction of the new parallel runway at YYC which opened in 2014.

The ADP is the largest and most ambitious expansion program in the history of YYC and supports the airport’s position as Alberta’s aviation hub of choice, ensuring YYC and its partners are able to accommodate future growth. YYC is a hub of economic activity, a trusted neighbour, a gateway to possibilities and a place where people, purpose and commerce connect – welcoming 15.26 million passengers in 2014.

Directly connected to the existing terminal building at YYC, the new International Terminal will feature two new concourses and 22 new aircraft gates, along with a 318-room hotel.

On track for a scheduled opening in the fall of 2016, the two-million square foot International Terminal will more than double the size of the terminal facilities at Calgary International Airport.

The new International Terminal will be connected to the existing terminal building by the Connections Corridor, a significant project unto itself. When complete, it will provide quick and efficient movement of passengers between the existing terminal and the new International Terminal.

The Connections Corridor will help passengers move within the expanded terminal facilities using several transportation options including moving walkways and a Compact Transit System (CTS).

Recent milestones on the Connections Corridor include:

• A portion of the Connections Corridor, between Concourses B and C, opened to passengers this August

• Four of the eight moving walkways that will transport passengers easily down the 620-metre Corridor have been installed and tested

• An expanded Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge, with new entrance, kitchen and chef’s station, along the area being constructed for the Connections Corridor, were completed in August
