The 1911 Census – Appleby Magna, Leicestershire.
The first UK census to be completed by the head of the household, with the enumerators checking the returns rather than completing the forms.
For the first time people were asked to count the number of rooms in their dwelling, the instructions were :- “count the kitchen as a room but do not count scullery, landing, lobby, closet, bathroom; nor warehouse, office, shop”.
The room count is shown on the first line of each family’s entry in these transcriptions.
The enumerators have occasionally added (missing) information or made corrections for clarification, these changes are marked in red.
