D.C.’s Fabulous Five

Without a doubt, the crown on our eighth grade year is our trip to Washington, D.C. in June. To best

prepare you for this excursion, you and a partner will be researching monuments, memorials, and sites in our

capital city. Your ultimate goal is to decide upon the top five tourist sites we should visit.

Student Expectations

Script for TV Commercial

Your commercial must include you and your partner pitching your Fabulous Five D.C. sites on camera. In addition, you will also be required to do a standard “voice over” spot. This means that an announcer reads the copy accompanied by a synchronized video. So, you will write a script consisting of two elements: the audio (announcer’s voice over) and the video. Your script will include all of the speaking in your commercial, your voice overs, and the corresponding images to your words. Please use the template provided.

Here are some rules of thumb for writing your commercial script for television:

1. State your thesis in a creative way which quickly states your Fabulous Five (in decreasing ranking order).

2. Explain your reasoning behind your choices using the “Final Product Must Include” handout as your guide.

3. Repeat it.

4. The use of music and literary devices will greatly enhance your commercial. Consider using alliteration, similes, metaphors, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, and repetition for effect.
