Textual analysis of music magazine front covers, contents pages and
double page spreads
A black background has been used which is is stereo typically a colour associated with males, which suggests that the magazine is aimed at the male audience.
The artist is wearing a t-shirt that says unstoppable which connotes what his music is about as well as making the picture more relatable.
Close up shot is used to highlight the artists intense facial expression.
Black, yellow and white colours is used throughout the cover to keep it consistent and aesthetically pleasing.
The barcode is visible but does not dominate the whole page. The headlines are eye-catching in terms of size, boldness
and colour. Towards the top right of the magazine, the word ‘DRAKE’ is
displayed, clearing highlighting who the cover artist is and what some of the features inside will be about.
The ‘DRAKE’ text is completely different from the rest of the page making it stand out and grab the readers attention.
The facial expression within the picture portrays confidence, aggression and a comeback which is what their music stands for.

This contents page only uses one image which does not connote to the reader what contents will follow within the magazine.
The page includes the contents of the magazine along the left-hand side of the page as well as which page each piece of content can be found on. This is extremely efficient as readers will be able to easily find the piece of content they want quickly.
The colour scheme is simple, yet effective. The artists are wearing dark clothes, hats and
jewellery which connotes the rap industry. There is a quote from one of the artists on top
of the image; entertaining the readers whilst conveying information that the artist wanted to be conveyed.

The quote makes the article more personal whilst entertaining the reader.
The plain colour scheme is effective as it does not take away from the artist and the information.
The image connotes who the article is about; their costumes and props illustrating what they themselves are about.
The quote contains profanities which will shock and engage the reader whilst encouraging them to continue reading.
