Week 11 Term 1, 2011 Principals Report Dear Parents/Caregivers Last week, it was great to see so many parents attending conferences with their child’s classroom teacher. Effective learning is all about partnerships and having a sense of connection between the home and the school environment. Research indicates that children have better academic and social outcomes when their parents and teachers work well together. EASTER HOLIDAYS School holidays begin this Friday 8 th April. We would like to wish everybody a safe and happy holiday and a wonderful Easter. Teachers will return on Wednesday 27 th April. Students return on Thursday 28 th April. ANZAC Day March All students are invited to represent our school at the Morisset ANZAC Day March. Students attending will need to wear our sports uniform. We will meet at Morisset Train Station at 9:30am on Monday 25 th April. WEEKLY POLL 3) What topic would you like to hear about in an upcoming parent information session? SMS 224595 and your message to 0429883481 (standard SMS costs apply) Last week’s Poll Results: Would you attend P & C meetings if they were held at night? Yes = 75% No = 25% Easter Hat Parade/Easter Raffle Our students are getting excited about tomorrow’s Easter Hat Parade. We are hoping to see lots of people attending. All families are welcome. Thank you so much for supporting your child by making a hat and supporting our P & C raffle. Holiday Reading Looking for holiday reading? If you are unsure of an appropriate book for your child, why not try something from the Premier’s Reading Challenge list? Join the challenge! Great lists of books in various categories sorted by age group can be found at: https://products.schools.nsw.edu.au/ prc/booklist/home.html School Gates and Parking Issues Please be advised that the issue of a locked pedestrian gate in the mornings has now been rectified. I would like to extend our apologies for any inconvenience that this caused. As mentioned in previous newsletters, please do not use the staff car park or entrance when picking up or dropping off your child. Getting a Home Loan at the Newcastle Perm? If you are applying for a home loan or refinancing a loan at the Newcastle Permanent Building Society, be sure to mention Morisset Public School. Just by mentioning MPS, the Newcastle Perm. will donate $300 to our school. Tell your friends, family and neighbours to get involved. Free entry for primary school kids to NSW museums and galleries until 26 April Primary school children in NSW can visit landmark arts and cultural attractions for free with the Kids’ Adventure Passport until April 26. They can touch fossils at the Australian Museum, picnic in Elizabeth Farm’s historic grounds, or explore the galaxies at Sydney Observatory. Several major venues are outside the city centre, and regional museums and galleries across NSW are welcoming passport holders. Passports are available at all participating venues, listed on the website at www.kidspassport.nsw.gov.au. Children who collect three stamps can earn a certificate of achievement. And if they return their passport slip by 3 May with one stamp or more they go into the draw to win prizes. SMASH Program Students from K-4 participated in a SMASH demo lesson on Friday last week. The SMASH program will commence on Friday of week 2, next term. Notes were sent home on Monday. If you need another one, please contact the office. Year 5 & 6 Canberra Excursion Get your child’s note and deposit in as early as you can to book their seat for this wonderful excursion. Cross Country In the first week of Term 2, Friday 29th April, we will be

holding the school’s cross country events. Please use the holiday period to ensure your

child has a hat, suitable sports shoes and a water bottle in

preparation for this event. The cross country will be held in school grounds this year and we encourage all students to

participate.
