PB4L Kamo Primary is a PB4L School (Positive Behaviour for Learning) and a Restorative Practice School. This means PB4L is school-wide and looks at behaviour and learning from a whole school point of view as well as an individual child’s perspective. The framework is based on international evidence. The Positive Behaviour for Learning School-Wide framework, otherwise known as PB4L School-Wide, is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life. The framework can be tailored to our school’s own environment and cultural needs. It’s not about changing the students; it’s about changing the environment, systems and practices we have in place to support them to make positive behaviour choices. We have set definitions that we operate by in regards to behaviours. Here are three we use: When someone does or says something that hurts you BUT they didn’t mean to, that's an accident. When someone does or says something that hurts you and they meant to, that's being unkind. When someone keeps on doing or saying things that hurt you ON PURPOSE even when you have asked them to stop, that's bullying. We ask that you help explain these to your child. Reminder again – Te Manawa Tahi If you have any concerns about your child, you are welcome to self refer your child through Te Manawa Tahi (The Hubs) either through the School Hub, the Te Manawa Tahi Facebook page or by calling 0800 5248 4256. The Hub sheets are attached with dates and locations. Te Manawa Tahi is designed for whānau and community members to come and talk to education specialists about their child’s learning needs on their terms. It is a service well worth using if you have questions or concerns. At school we have 4 staff you can talk to at school: Brenda Lewis and Ben Soole (SENCOs), Gemma Cooper (Learning Support Co-ordinator) and myself, Sally Wilson. The next dates for our local area at Clark Road Chapel are Wednesday 11 March and Wednesday 25 March from 8.30am to 12.30am.

PB4LKamo Primary is a PB4L School (Positive Behaviour for Learning) and a Restorative Practice School. School Swimming Sports Thursday 5th March

Kauri 9.00am - 11.00am Rimu 11:30am - 1.00pm

These events are focused on participation. Support is welcome.

We will be running competitive freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke events which are 2 lengths of the school pool. This will be at lunchtime Friday 6th March at 1pm. These will be timed for possible WPSSA entries.

Weekend VandalismThis past weekend we suffered some vandalism around the school. We welcome any information on what you may have seen if you were passing by.

Internet Safety and Positive ManagementTired students continue to appear in rooms from too much screen time. One avenue you might like to look into is Family Zone. There is no doubt that the internet is a doorway to a wealth of information, knowledge and educational resources, increasing opportunities for learning in and beyond the classroom. Unfortunately, it can also be a trapdoor to a vast world of online dangers and a source of huge distraction for students. Both those doors are being opened sooner and more often by our students. It is because of the trapdoors that Family Zone exists. Please check out their website if you feel it may be for you and be sure to read their eye watering statistics.Thank you for your time in reading this panui.

Sally Wilson – Principal

Endless Summer When will the rain come? At lunch time the sun is blasting hot. It hasn’t rained for months. I am burning hot. The grass is brown like dirt. New Zealand hasn’t had rain for ages. I am waiting for rain and so is the oak tree. The leaves are not straight. The oak tree is waiting for water. Emily MacLeod Room 18

Endless Summer It’s summer I shouted but there’s a water shortage. “No rain for us” The grass is like a desert with little catacuses. The old oak tree leaves are like chocolate sauce. The concrete feels like flames burning our feet. Jessica Howard Room 18

I went to the marae for a tangi. I slept with my Mum. Benny Parry Room 18

Endless Summer Bright blue sky with fluffy white cotton wool clouds. There is a drought. It hasn’t rained for months the ground is hard. Isabella Liang Room 18

Firstly I was really bored because my Mum and Dad were painting all of our bad bits of dirt because we are moving to a bright white big beautiful house. When Dad was sandpapering the paint me and Jamie and August were playing with my dog. Mum had a break. Next when everything was done we happily got to go to the beach. We had dinner, fish and chips and hotdogs too. Then we played at the playground, excitedly we got to go swimming. It was quite nice and warm. Then the swim was done we went home and we also got to have an iceblock. Then we went to bed. Riley Nesbit Room 9

In the weekend Nana, Poppa and I drove to their beach. By the time we got there I jumped in the pool like a bouncing kangaroo. Poppa canon-balled into the pool like a canon-ball being shot into the river. I asked my Poppa if I could jump onto the blown up whale. He said yes. I carefully climbed up the ladder. Poppa got the whale ready. As soon as I jumped Poppa had moved the whale and I fell into the water like a boulder belly flopping into the water. Henry Belton Room 9
