TechnogangaLowcost Electromedical Device
CBS Responsability Day – 1-09-2009
Summary
Our goal:• Sell small electro-medical devices for competitive prices.
• Raise the quality of the health system in poor areas.
• Help other companies and NGOs with similar values to the ours.
Our first product is a low-cost heart-rate measure and our geographical area ofinterest (for the moment) is west-Africa
Major causes of Death in west-Africa
Neonatal causes 18%HIV/AIDS 4%Diarrhoeal diseases 19%Measles 3%Malaria 20%Pneumonia 23%Injuries 2%Others 11%
(WHO Mortality fact sheet 2006).
Still unsolved problems there, in fact they are still in the list GOAL 6 of the Millennium Development Goals – Framework for Action U.N.D.P.And related to the reduction of the child mortality (GOAL 4) and the improvement of the maternal health (GOAL 5).
We designed some low-cost medical devices, and we believe we can design others
e.g. a device for measuring the hearth rate
can cost 300-1000$ ( Philips)or just 20$ (redesigned by us)
There is a large volume of “potential” customers at the baseof the pyramid !!!
Poor as

market
Poor as an intractable problem whereWe just volunteer
Challenges
This is a price-driven approach !!!
With the main challenge of beening really creative in designing product,
• using scarse resourses,• and beeing careful of not violating any copyrights.
• Build a good ecosystem in loco is also important!!
...and greetings from BurkinaFaso.
THANK YOU!!!
