Join this 7-night Tasmania expedition cruise exploring the rugged coastal beauty and World Heritage Listed National Parks of Australia’s island state, in the intimate comfort of the refurbished flagship, Coral Discoverer. Become immersed in Tasmania’s breathtaking National Parks; from the dramatic pink granite peaks of the Freycinet Peninsula, to the majestic rolling hills of Maria Island National Park with it’s abundant wildlife and history. At Tasman National Park, seals, dolphins and albatross await to greet you, with an intimidating backdrop of 300 metre high dolerite cliffs. Guided by an expert Expedition Team, including a Tasmanian Specialist, you will gain a unique “insider view” of the area, as you embark on easy hikes including the rugged Fluted Cape Track on Bruny Island, the Needwonnee boardwalk at Melaleuca, and the Wine Glass Bay Track at Freycinet. The itinerary allows guests to experience an authentic expedition voyage. Subject to weather, our guests will spend two days exploring the untouched Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area at Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour. Normally only accessible by seven-day hike or light aircraft, this region is undoubtedly one of the most pristine and beautiful landscapes on earth. There is no finer way to experience Tasmania’s remote southern coastline than by expedition ship, and no other itinerary with the ability to capitalise on these unique Tasmanian experiences.

As adaptable as the original explorers to this rugged area, our itinerary is crafted to be flexible, allowing the Captain and Expedition Team to respond quickly to favourable weather conditions and pick from a menu of attractions that include the following destinations. As an example the itinerary outline is as follows: Day 1: Canberra - Hobart - Bruny Island Day 2: Woodridge - Recherche Bay Day 3: Port Davey - Bramble Cove Day 4: Bathurst Harbour Day 5: Adventure Bay Day 6: Wineglass Bay - Maria Island Day 7: Port Arthur Day 8: Ralphs Bay – Hobart - Canberra Some of the experiences you will enjoy while on this cruise are outlined below. CANBERRA TO HOBART AND RIVER DERWENT A mid morning flight from Canberra takes us to Hobart via Melbourne. On arrival in Hobart we are transferred to Hobart ’s Macquarie Wharf to board the Coral Discoverer in readiness for our 7 night cruise. Our journey starts with a 60km cruise down the River Derwent and under the mighty Tasman Bridge. Enjoy Captain’s Welcome Drinks at sunset onboard and taste Tasmanian cheeses and fresh, sweet, plump Bruny Island (Pacific) oysters. Learn about the Angasi Tasmania Oysters. Sail the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, the mouth for the estuaries of the Derwent and the Huon Rivers. Enjoy dinner at our overnight anchorage near Bruny Island WOODBRIDGE AND HUON Enjoy a tour and tasting at Grandvewe Cheeses, the only organic sheep cheesery in Australia. Meet the sheep known as “The Girls”. Taste up to 8 different products and viewing the process of cheese making from paddock to plate. Explore the Woodbridge Marine Discovery Centre; learn and meet species including lobsters, urchins and octopuses. Huon Cruise and quaint Franklin Township, the oldest town in the region, with many antique wares. Visit the Wooden Boat School and meet the makers who hand-make each vessel as you tour the centre. Cruise South East Cape, the southern most point of Tasmania, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Wilderness Area

RECHERCHE BAY Enjoy the Coral Discoverer cruise of beautiful Recherche Bay, part of the National Heritage Register and only accessible by water. Cruise Cockle Creek, the very edge of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. See the famed bronze young southern right whale statue and take a scenic hike at the start of the famed South Coast Track led by our Expedition Leader and Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Ranger (optional). TASMANIAN WILDERNESS WORLD HERITAGE AREA A marine reserve, and part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, Port Davey is Tasmania untouched. If conditions allow, guests will spend two full days exploring this pristine wilderness. Otherwise accessible only via a 7 day hike or charter flight, Port Davey feels like an endless unchartered wilderness, full of endless sheltered bays filled with endemic marine life to explore. Participate in the unforgettable experience of kayaking in Bathurst Harbour (optional). Disembark to explore the ‘Narrows’ aboard our tender, an obviously narrow stretch of water that very few vessels can navigate through. Take a guided hike of Balmoral Hill Track. Amble remote Melaleuca village, and meet the locals who live in a town accessible only by sea, air or foot. Potential wildlife sightings include the endangered Orange-bellied parrot.

BRUNY ISLAND AND ADVENTURE BAY Scenic cruise along the southern coast of Bruny Island, site of the South Bruny National Park. Walk to historic Cape Bruny Lighthouse, first lit in 1838. It is now the country’s second oldest and longest continually staffed extant lighthouse. Visit The Friars, a collection of steep dolerite rocks, covering an area of approximately 42 acres, that are home to a large population of Australian Fur Seals. See these magnificent beasts haul up on the rock or feast on seafood. Aboard our tender, drift past nesting seabirds. Visit Adventure Bay where you can swim, kayak or relax on the sheltered beach. Be immersed in history at the Bligh Museum of Pacific Exploration. Built from thousands of convict made bricks, the museum contains a myriad of documents, maps and artefacts from explorers including James Cook, Matthew Flinders and William Bligh. With your expedition leader, participate in an optional guided Fluted Cape Walk, starting from the eastern end of Adventure Bay. Approximately walking time 3 hours. Explore the historic 19th century whaling station ruins. Sample Tasmanian wine at a tasting session. FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK AND WINEGLASS BAY The spectacular peninsula of Freycinet is crafted from pink granite peaks – the Hazard Mountains – surrounded by azure bays, and backed by dry eucalypt forest. Awake to dawn at Freycinet National Park and take in the majestic surroundings. With your expedition leader, join an optional guided hike (approximately 1.5 hours return) to the Wineglass Bay Lookout. Later, join a beachcombers walk (approximately 30 minutes) along Wineglass Bay, consistently voted one of the most breathtaking beaches in the world. MARIA ISLAND Walk amongst the historic ruins, secluded bays and rugged cliffs of Maria Island National Park, and you can expect to meet more than a few incredible creatures. Since the 1960’s a number of threatened species have been introduced here, in a bid to protect their kind. Expeditioners can expect sightings of native pademelons, Forester kangaroos, Bennetts wallabies and Tasmanian Devils. Visit World Heritage-listed Darlington, part of the “convict trail of Australia”. Gain an understanding of the life of the early settlers in a restored 17th century convict penitentiary. A walk from Darlington (approximately 2 hours return) takes in the dramatic Painted and Fossil Cliffs, created by the movement of mineral-rich water though the rock, and by the later eroding action of wind and wave. Then, from Encampment Cove walk to the ruins of Maria Island ’s second convict station at Point Lesueur at Long Point on the island’s west coast. TASMAN NATIONAL PARK Feel small again as you stand beside the 300 metre sea cliffs and monumental rock formations of Tasman National Park. Be awed at the sights of sea stacks – tall dolerite formations – that stand tall out of the ocean. View Tasman Arch, The Candlestick and Cathedral from perfect positions at sea. In this area of huge natural diversity, guests can expect to meet Australian and New Zealand Fur Seals “hauling out” on the rocky shore at Tasman Island, as well as dolphins and albatross. PORT ARTHUR HISTORIC SITE Be sent back in time, and gain an understanding of the life of the convicts who built Tasmania at Port Arthur Historic Site. This is Australia’s most evocative convict site housing Britain and Australia’s ‘worst’ criminals. Participate in an exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ tour guided by a resident archaeologist. The tour features private collections and historical buildings not accessible to public. This evening, enjoy the Captain’s farewell reception at Port Arthur’s Asylum building, memories of the voyage warming the chilly history of the room. CRUISE CONCLUDES IN HOBART, FLY HOME TO CANBERRA We have an early morning cruise of River Derwent towards Hobart. After disembarkation, we enjoy some of the sights of Hobart as we transfer to the airport for our flight home.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

This itinerary must be read in conjunction with Coral Discoverer’s Cruising Booking Terms and Conditions. This document outlines the payment and cancellation conditions. The Booking Form must be completed when paying your deposit. Note on fitness levels: this trip is suitable for passengers of all fitness levels, though reasonable mobility is required to enjoy all it has to offer. Our Xplorer tender permits easy boarding without climbing any stairs. Hikes vary in intensity and where possible we split groups to suit easy and moderate walkers. Guests are welcome to opt out of any excursion and relax onboard – our top deck outdoor lounge is great on a sunny day. The ship has no elevator. As the itinerary covers remote regions, it is not suitable for passengers with serious medical conditions. Note that each itinerary will include a mix of the above attractions, depending on prevailing conditions. The Cap-tain and Expedition Team will make daily itinerary changes to maximise the guest experience and take advantage of opportunities opened up by weather. There will be a daily briefing onboard to advise guests on the upcoming day ’s activities. Time of departure and return are guaranteed – the rest is an adventure! The expedition will visit Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour conditions permitting. We always aim to visit these beautiful destinations, but if we are not able to enter, an alternative destination more appropriate to the inclem-ent weather conditions will be chosen by the Captain. Note the summer temperature can still be very cool especially with the wind chill so warm layered clothing is essential.
