1.0 PURPOSE AND SCOPE

1.1 Purpose

To provide instruction for the safe, and proper method for calibrating and maintaining the

Eberline Models Alpha 5, and 5A Continuous Air Monitor Stack (CAMs).

1.2 Scope

The procedure is written for Bench Testing the Eberline Alpha Models 5 and 5A

Continuous Air Monitor Stack (CAMs) for the measurement of 239Pu in the Stacks.

2.0 INFORMATION

2.1 General Information

For units equipped with a chart recorder, all readings are taken from indications on the

chart paper, not the recorder scale, as the chart is the permanent record.

3.0 PRECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS

3.1 Personnel Safety

3.1.1 IF working around live circuits, extreme caution should be used. Failure to

follow electrical safety practices as outlined in DOE–0359 could result in

serious injury or death.

3.1.2 Lockouts, tagouts, or over-tagging requirements shall be performed in

accordance with DOE-0336, Hanford Site Lockout/Tagout Procedure, as

applicable.

3.2 Radiation and Contamination Control

3.2.1 Work in radiological areas will be performed using a radiological work

permit following review by Radiological Control per the ALARA Work

Planning procedure TFC-ESHQ-RP_RWP-C-03.

3.2.2 Handle radioactive sources with extreme care; keep covered and protected at

all times when not in use.

3.3 Environmental Compliance

3.3.1 Breach of a radiologically contaminated ventilation system requires a pre-job

and post-job survey.

3.3.2 To ensure reporting requirements are met, all unplanned outages of

ventilation, including portable exhausters, and both planned and unplanned

outage of exhaust record samplers must be immediately reported to

environmental On-Call per the On-Call List in compliance with

TFC-ESHQ-ENV-FS-01.

3.3.3 Equipment with removable contamination and/or work with removable

contamination will be contained per the latest revision of the Containment

Selection guide, Attachment A, in TFC-ESHQ-RP-C-02.
